The Z axis auto leveler is kind of confusing. (Don't get me wrong its very easy) The word resistance is kind of a vague term. Does it mean when the paper is having trouble moving or does it mean the paper is supposed to stop moving at all if i move it with my hand?

Don't use the paper method and disable the APL

I turned off all auto leveling and ONLY use the paper method. Once it's done you never have to do it again unless you change the machine or it's location.. awesome...

que? SO... you are leveling on the middle only?
I set my offset by that... and autoleveling isn't perfect across the plate... but..
I must not be getting it.

APL acts as a "no sensor" method of bed leveling.

I'm not much of an acronym-kinda guy.. APL?

I have a later-R1 with the rods for the Y axis. At least on my machine Robo got it right - The rods, glass plate and end brackets make up a nice flat and parallel surface. Even if they're not perfectly square with the Z axis, it doesn't make a height difference with respect to the extruder so, no need to autolevel fore/aft (you can check yours with a feeler gauge or use a piece of paper)
for the X Axis, I turn the machine off - center on the Y axis, then check the height (again with a feeler gauge) on each end of the X travel, making manual adjustments until it's the same on both ends of travel. Boom. Done. Don't let the software muck it up by using auto level at all.
