I have not used my printer in a while its been in storage i figured that i should probably update the software. so i flashed it with the lastest ROBO R1 Firmware 3.0 from here guide-robo3d-com Wiki/ROBO_3D_Firmware_Release_Notes using the hex file thru the latest matter control

and now i am getting this exact problem as in this video
    www - youtube - com/watch?v=qUuRFTfA4ys

I'm not sure which firmware i should flash back to. it seems no matter which one i try and flash it seems to be stuck in this mode.

You must know which printer you have before installing updates to the firmware.
There are at least three different Robo configurations.
    Beta, R1 (5/16 rods -- rare), R1 (8mm rods -- normal), R1+
Then there is the Beta or R1 with the leadscrew upgrade.

Can't do the video on my cell so if you want ideas please describe your problem.

When I updated the firmware it would just spin up a bit and make a buzzing sound when trying to home Z.
after reflashing it. now it tries to home Z upward.

I bought my R1 on 03/01/2014 so pretty old.

Sounds like your z end stop is disconnected... under each connection to the z screws there is a small switch. One or both is probably either too close, too far or disconnected
