I have an older used r1. I use matter control leveling feature, it works well, i can set it at three points a business cars thick. When i go to print, it air prints about 5-10 mm above the bed? Any ideas?

Home the printer in the center of the build platform and adjust the Z endstop screw until the nozzle barely touches, but not rests on, the build plate.

First a business card is too thick. More like a sheet of paper would be closer and even that is probably a bit off/too high. There are a number of threads discussing this, tesseract has several of them (search those out and read them).

Your initial Z zero point is off and adjusting the endstop screw as Mike has suggested is the only way to really fix that. You could adjust it every print while the perimeter is printing but that would be a pain :)

I am just not getting it. I have a flashforge, printrbot, and a rostock, all working. This robo will now home when i tell it to, clicking the end stop like it should. But when it goes to print, it starts out about 5mm high, and air prints filament, what am immissing?

How high is it when you home it and it clicks the Z stop? (this is where it should be < a sheet of paper from the bed)
    What software are you using?
Do you have an extra Z offset defined in the software?
