I don't know what I have done to this thing now lol. I printed a huge piece the other day and everything turned out great! And then all of a sudden when I try to print anything the hot end is dragging the bed. I've reinstalled the firmware back to the original firmware thinking maybe I changed a setting on accident I've calibrated with a piece of paper several times and got it to where it seems perfect but when I start a print it just drags the bed again... Any guidance or tips would be great. Is there anyway to set the z calibration that I haven't been able to find?

    R1 or Beta?
for the R1 perhaps your Z offset number is just too low.

I would experiment with different Z offset numbers and fine the sweet spot.

I was just helping someone with their R1 last week and it can be more art than science to get that number dialed in.

So once you said that I opened up matter control and started looking for the z offset option and I couldn't find it. I then switch out of cura slice and it was set to 1mm so I hit print and now it's working fine? I was attempting to switch over to Cura. How can I change the z offset in cura?

I am going to let someone who uses either MatterControl or Cura step in and help you with that one :)

Cura doesn't have a built in Z offset like Slic3r or matterslice. You'll need to define it with M565 if you want to use cura effectively.

M565 is a way to define an offset, add it before G29

    Example
    Code:
    M565 Z-1.0; Define a 1.0mm Z offset. More negative = further from bed

Awesome mike! Thanks. I will work on it tomorrow. I'm at least up and printing again. Got the e steps all dialed in. Still having some quality issues. I post pics tomorrow and see if you guys can figure it out if I can't before then.

[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG] [IMG][IMG] I've got it printing much better and got the steps figured out again...again! Lol but I'm having some top layer issues. All the layers spear to lay down smooth and then the top layer is rough... Not sure if you can tell what's going on by these photos but I printed these last night skull is 1mm layer height and cube is 3mm. I sped the cube up a little past halfway through so it looks different in the sides a bit but the top is really rough and sharp. The skull printed beautifully but again the top layer is rough and sharp feeling...

Top layers generally have a bit of roughness. For the skull you need to have it print slower on smaller layers

For the cube be sure your E steps per mm are calibrated.
