    I signed up to back it, but then backed out when I realized it's only iphone compatible since I don't have an iphone.

    Seems like its worth considering.

    Seems this is going to be compatible with more than the iPhone

    What mobile devices do you support?
    Quick answer: Any mobile video capture device (iOS, Android, SLR, point-and-shoot camera) with lockable focus and exposure.
    Long answer:
    Any iOS or Android devices with lockable focus and exposure should work as a standalone capture/analysis device. (We've tested it on the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5, and are developing the Android version with the Nexus 4.)
    The laptop version of the software, not being as limited by memory or processing power, will be able to import from standard video files from iOS/Android devices as well as any digital camera that supports manual exposure. (You need to dial exposure down to avoid the super-bright lasers from blowing out.)

    @David: Doh!

    I was one of the early bird supporters and only watched for the first few days. They must have changed it after I backed out because it was definitely only iOS. Bummer. I probably have enough 'toys' to keep me busy for the moment anyways!

    I don't think this is for me yet. I don't have any need at this time to scan figurines then to 3D print it. My interests are making functional items. I want to be able to scan a part to an appliance and be able to print an exact sized copy so the bolt holes line up.... or scan an item and be able to sculpt or modify it.. then print it. When I can do these things I will buy a printer... It's coming soon... I just haven't seen it yet. This scanner doesn't even scan the top or the object.

    This technology is close... Maybe a year or 2 away...

    Any updates on this?
    I may be interested in getting a decent 3D scanner soon. Any suggestions? Is the MakerBot one any good?
    Scanning needs to be no larger than the build volume of the Robo 3D.
