Check out how to automatically hollow your 3D model

Hollowing out a 3D Model is a re-mesh of the 3D model, emptying out the core, which will lead to less material waste, lower the cost of 3D Print, and saves print time.

Meshmixer has a tool for this that works really well and is super easy to use as well.

For self printed models, your slicer will hollow it out for you, since it treats anything that is not a perimeter as infill, 0 percent infill is hollow. With Shapeways, the video neglects to tell you that you actually have to place drain holes in your model otherwise Shapeways will not treat it as hollow and it won't pass it's automated model testing. Most other services are the same. Drain holes allow Shapeways to remove the excess plastic powder from inside the model, They have strict rules regarding the minimum drain hole size as well as suggestions about placements.

Too bad, the video quality is good but the information is less than 100% accurate, unless of course the hollowing feature already adds the drain holes (doubtful).
