Currently my printer head is a mess with cables and I'm out to fix this. I was looking around to see if there was any mods anyone had already done and I found this http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:696183 : It's a chain link that you can run your cables through, very clever and it looks awesome. My question is, is there any complications with cables? If I were to rewire everything, do I need to keep in mind cable lengths? Is there anything crucial that having slightly different cable lenghts than stock could prove harmful/make the printer not function properly?

    Thank you,

    Connor

Cable length is not a huge factor.

Yeah cable length isn't really important at all since there's not really any data transfer going on. Just be sure you keep the same wire gauge for the heater core and you'll be fine.

I used expandable cable for my wiring. If you look at my pictures in the my printer sub forum you will see it. I like the looks of the cable chain but I like my wiring to be more flexible since there is a lot of movement happening.

I found this same cable management on thingiverse and I love it! I printed the X carriage and all the links but when it came down to taking the X carriage off the 8mm rods I stopped before I attempted to pull it apart. I took the belt off but the plastic pieces that ride on the Z axis won't come of the rods. How do I take the darn thing off so I could change the X carriage for the custom one?

What do you mean by "the plastic pieces that ride on the Z axis"

The X carriage rides left/right on two steel rods (smooth ones). Those rods are held by plastic mounts. They seem to be either pressure fitted or glued on to the ends of the rods.

Pressure fitted I imagine, but not sure. @Mike Kelly probably knows.
