This error has been popping up for the last few prints and causing them to fail.

I switched from MatterControl to Repetier because MC would stop communicating with the printer and haven't had a 100% successful print in Repetier.

My most recent print had huge chunks missing out of the layers and the printer was at down to 194c (set at 210c). Heated bed is set to 55c

I'm printing with the pla that was included with the printer and have had many successful prints on MatterControl.

Anyone have any ideas on what settings to check or what could be causing the temp issues?

In the firmware you will find:

    (CONFIGURATION.H)

    #define EXTRUDE_MINTEMP 170

Make sure it is set where you want. If you want to print at 190, it needs to be lower than 190.
However, it might be much more simple and just be a loose/flakey/intermittent thermistor.
Watch your extruder temperature graph and see if the reported temperature is jumping around.

erm, how do I access the printer's firmware? Haven't had to do that yet

    Download it. (http://help.robo3dprinter.com/Wiki/RoBo_3D_Firmware)
Edit it (wordpad or whatever) -- 'it' being CONFIGURATION.H in this case
Then upload it via the Arduino IDE

I'd make sure the thermistor is sound before going to the bother however.
But if it is the firmware, that is how to sort it.

Awesome, thanks! Running a test print and watching temps.

The printers temp held steady for a few minutes before I started the print, then it ran for a little while and started plummeting.

    Heres the graph:

So the thermistor is bad (cracked or something) OR there is a bad wire connection to/from the RAMPS to the thermistor.
Try watching the graph while wiggling the wire harness.

That's a temp fall error. I agree it's probably a loose thermistor or damaged

What secures it in? It came out at one point and I just pushed it back in.

    Friction really.

If I had to guess the thermistor is loose and you're maxing out your heater cartridge which might be causing your polyfuse to trip off making your temp drop.

Hard to say, Pull out the thermistor and look for damage. Measure the resistance across it

Seems like printhead temperature going out of control should be a "stop print" kind of a problem.
Stopping extrusion protects the extruder, but you're done. Especially if the temp is way off the programmed value.

There's a temp fall error catch that will disable the extruder power in the event of a drop off (like if the thermistor fell out)

Once it gets below the safe extrusion temp it won't allow it to extrude anymore. Not sure if there's a way to have it stop the print completely though.

When I tap the wires the temp holds. I also tried very gently pulling on it to see if it would just drop out and it didn't. It SEEMS all the way in but I tried pushing it in more anyways.

I measured the resistance after letting it cool down. 97.8k, then I heated up the extruder and the resistance dropped to 94.6k before I shut off the extruder. I only ran it for a little while.

Might be an issue with your ramps then.

Feel the polyfuse after running your hot end for a while.

If the polyfuse is the thin yellow rectangles sticking up from the board then they are quite cool to the touch with the extruder running at 200c for approx 10-15min

Can you heat the extruder up to like 280C?

Heated up to 280c with no problems. Polyfuse is cool to the touch still

That seems to be ok then. I'm not entirely sure of the issue. Try printing again and see what happens

oiler is approx half way through printing, no major issues yet. Temp is super stable.

    I literally changed nothing >.>
