Filament run out detection

    There is only one detector in the little black box and so if you switch away from the side that has it, you do not have run-out detection really. Of course that SHOULD mean that the run-out sensor is always tripped, but if yours is bad...

    I guess I have to bite the bullet and remove the black box, verify and/or move it to where it belongs and then chase it down to the board.

    The runout sensor is in fact a small board with an IR sensor on it.
    There are spots in that black "frame" for one on each feed, but there is in fact only one installed.

    Yep, yep... saw the photo in one of your posts. I'd install a second sensor while in there but I hear this one's proprietary and Robo support indicated that they have nothing to support a second extruder upgrade, for what it's worth.

    It is sad, because they do have (or planned to have) a second extruder kit for the R2. Yet even it will not have that run-out sensor.
    So the real answer is what you already suggested, add another one :)

    Once I have it taken apart, I'll try to identify the diode/photoresistor pair they're using and we'll source one for this. Or we'll just print one since we're awesome like that. ha
