I 'm working on printing Hands for children, but having a few problems. I'm using MatterControl with matterslice and Slic3d. I have attached some pictures of my problem.

In the first picture, the finger on the right is printed with Matterslicer and the picture on the left is printed with slic3d. As you can see from the picture on the left it won't fill in. I'm running at a temp of 200 and a bed temp of 50c. I have reduce my speed to .78 in tuning adjustment area. In mattercontrol under slicer settings/support material I unchecked generate support material. Number of solid layers on top is 6.

In the second picture, the finger on the right is printed with Matterslicer and the picture on the left is printed with slic3d. The problem I have here is with how it how matterslicer fills in around the holes and the amount of support material in the holes.

In the third picture the finger on the top is Matterslicer and the picture on the bottom is slic3d

I would really appreciate some help and so would the child I'm making the hand for.

I tried cura using MatterControl and the hot end was too low and would tear up the blue tape I had on the bed, not sure why, Then when I switched to slicer I did not have to make any changes and it printed fine as far as the first layer being OK, not tearing up the bed, and after working with 1nxtmonster I was able to get a very good print. Any idea why I'm having problems with cura???

I did not re calibrate when I switch from Matterslice to slic3d, so I did not think I had to re calibrate going to cura.

This is my start up code, I also upload my slicer setting.
I don't see the startup code in my slicer settings export that I uploaded.
Does the startup code override the slicer settings.
I am using this same startup code for matterslice and slic3d and they both print good with it, do I need to change the M565 Z? to something else to run cura slicer.

    G28 ; home all axes
    G1 Z5 F5000 ; lift nozzle
M109 S[temperature] ; set the extruder temp and wait
G28 Z0 ; Home Z again in case there was filament on nozzle
    M565 Z0
    G29 ; probe the bed

I was unable to get the Matter Control to properly slice my model. I downloaded Slic3r and used it to export my GCode. MUCH BETTER PRINTS.

I have not yet downloaded Repetier-host. I'm using Matter control with the external Slic3r.
I have a print currently in process and will try to download Ripetier-host when it's finished.

With those roundings (fingertips) in your object.. Cura is the only free slicer that can do that properly..
Cura creates a overlap for the next layer.. where Slic3r doesnt.

Sometimes you have to use Slic3r and sometimes Cura, Both have their specialties.

    Notice the perimeters:

    This is Slic3r:

    This is Cura:

You can clearly see the overlap Cura creates for the next layer.. so it closes the gap..
The lower the angle will be the bigger the gap will be..

The greater the layer height is, the bigger the gaps will be..
Cura fixes this by adding a little fill, so it will overlap nicely.

I would like to use cura, but as I stated above I'm having some issues getting it to work within mattercontrol.
    Also what does FTFY mean

    Hi Robert

I really suggest to use Repetier Host.

You can try loading up my settings to start off with.

You can use Cura without Matter Control. Just download and install the standalone version.

I have downloaded cura and printed my first item, see attachment. This finger is part of the print of a prosthetic hand for a child. I used all the setting from Mike Kelly's post on setting up Cura. Hopefully you can see from the attachment the problem I'm having. I would appreciate any suggestion of making a better print, thanks. Its not bad, but I'm hoping I can do better.

Make sure the overhang is on the same side as the parts fan.

The ribbing is a function of the helical couplers. You might need to adjust them and/or replace them along with Ziggy's Z-ribbing guide
