I mean when you installed the E3D you short circuited the thermistor leads so it reads 0 resistance, aka max temp

Figure out where the wire is short circuited.

I have a question Mike, I think I put the wires for my E3D fan in the wrong place and this could be shorting the circuit, could you please take a photo or tell/show me where the wires should go!
    Thanks :)

Use the terminals where the red and green wires in this picture connect. Note yours will be different colors:

    Hi Mike,

I am seeing zero bed temp and no heat there. Extruder heats. So I suppose I have a dead thermistor, I will check it's resistance. Are these things not very reliable? Shall I buy a lot and just change as required?

They generally only die/break if you do something with them :) like replace the hotend. Check that connector on the RAMPS board and make sure it is seated well. If it got knocked loose you could loose heat and/or signal from the thermistor.

Just to let you know ... The thermistor and heater resistances are reasonable. Then I discovered a broken wire on the thermistor, other side of the connector under the table (board side). Looks to be a MXN28 4-pin part whatever that is. I can't find it online and it's hard to get a pin out without the wire attached and no idea how the pin lock works. Anyway now the z=0 switch does not work. Where is it these days? (I am looking at an R1). Really guys, this is a QC problem. You need a QC guy.

Shipping vibration can lead to wire failures. Is the break on the connector for the bed side or the one that goes underneeth?

The Z min switches are located on the threaded rod under the idlers

The break occurred on the cable from the bed to the main circuit board naturally since the other side of the connector to the bed is all glued down and immobile (although not glued well).

Easy enough to fix but now I see zero temps for both bed and extruder. I think I am done with this product.

Something is still not quite there. Make sure the connectors are landed/seated well. A little loose can be enough, and yes it can be frustrating...
