May 17, 2018 11:17 AM - Rgl: Hello fello Roboists, I am looking to change out my stock hot end on my robR1+ Plus printer to a E3D Titan Aero HotEnd and Extruder. my question is what one do i need, mirror or not and besides this assembly what else do we Ineed like as special brakets etc.
May 17, 2018 12:09 PM - Geof: RGL fire up a thread so everyone can see it, not many use the shoutbox :D
May 17, 2018 12:10 PM - Geof: (for what its worth, since there is no advantage from the titan to the aero) I'd just go with a titan/v6 combo. many threads and proven working carriage designs for it.

May 29, 2018 5:59 AM - mark tomlinson: At home, chillin' Family took me out to dinner (mostly because there were a lot of veterans discounts) :) No, seriously I think they still love me ;) We didn't do much else, just enjoyed the day off
May 29, 2018 7:00 AM - WheresWaldo: I spent most of the day off building a new media server and waiting for my old RAID box to transfer all the media files to it.
May 29, 2018 7:14 AM - WheresWaldo: Has taken 3 days to move all the data. I did loose about 100 GB worth of files because of the failing drives in the RAID box. The RAID was degradfed and all the drives werre about 8-12 years old.
May 29, 2018 7:17 AM - mark tomlinson: Yea, we have a couple of Drobos that we keep pretty much everything on and I have had to go through every few years and replace the disk drives. Not cool. We use to just have a stand-alone RAID server box, but the Drobos are so much less maintenance.
May 29, 2018 7:40 AM - WheresWaldo: My server was Athlon 64 based, so you can just imagin how old it actually was, I was using an Areca RAID card (real hardware RAID) so it was time to upgrade. Current server is from parts. I bought a replacement MB for my current PC when I had to RMA it. It was just in the box unused. I had to buy new drives, case, DRAM, and CPU.
May 29, 2018 7:42 AM - WheresWaldo: The drives were shucked from WD 8TB MyBook externals, since they were cheaper. Had to do the 3.3v hack, but all run normally. Six drives total.
May 29, 2018 7:44 AM - WheresWaldo: The CPU was my old desktop Ryzen 7 1700, and I upgraded my desktop to a Ryzen 7 2700X. The DRAM was new, but nothing fancy, only a 16GB kit. That meant the CPU could be reused in this server.
May 29, 2018 7:45 AM - WheresWaldo: SSD to boot from and an new case to put it in, I decided to use a Cooler Master Pro 5 since I already have two PCs in that case and I had extra drive cages for it laying around in a parts box.
May 29, 2018 7:48 AM - WheresWaldo: No optical drive, I have one in my desktop PC so no need for any more. It is kinda funny, I remeber a few years back when every PC dumped 3.5" floppies, now it seems optical drives are going the same way.
May 29, 2018 8:11 AM - mark tomlinson: My son built me a replacement PC last year as a gift to replace one that was then about 5 years old. The new one has no external devices. No Floppy, no CD/DVD. Just USB ports. I added a card reader (plugged into a USB port).
May 29, 2018 8:11 AM - mark tomlinson: Only solid state disks internally too. Nice and quiet :)
May 29, 2018 8:22 AM - WheresWaldo: I thought about that on my personal build, no mechanical anything. But there needed to be at least one PC in the house with an optical drive. I needed local storage for a lot of the CAD files for my Shapeways store. I also put a card reader in the server. I only wished the case I bought didn't have a windowed side panel.
May 29, 2018 9:22 AM - mark tomlinson: That can be hard to avoid :)
May 29, 2018 10:57 AM - WheresWaldo: Yeah nearl;y every vendor thinks PCs all need disco frag lighting and windows to see it all.
May 29, 2018 11:35 AM - daniel871: Are there any new filament types worth playing around with or is it still just PLA/PETG/Nylons being the main things to do stuff with?
May 29, 2018 11:38 AM - mark tomlinson: Nothing radical. ASA and a few other odd ones are becoming more common.
    May 29, 2018 11:42 AM - daniel871: Hm.
May 29, 2018 11:42 AM - Geof: Its all about PC gents. All about the PC
May 29, 2018 11:44 AM - Geof: XT and NGEN are still a following favorite ;D
    May 29, 2018 11:45 AM - daniel871: [IMG]
May 29, 2018 11:48 AM - daniel871: What the little Monoprice printer has been up to since the last time I posted about it.
May 29, 2018 11:49 AM - daniel871: The seated Groot was printed in Ninjaflex, the gray objects are an old spool of PLA, the purple objects are a "high temp" PLA sample spool, the red pyramid was ABS.
May 29, 2018 11:50 AM - Geof: very cool. Looks like its workin ok. Was going to comment on the "zits and bumps" but with ninja it makes sense
May 29, 2018 11:51 AM - daniel871: Yeah, I'm not bothering to spend a bunch of time cleaning off the zits/bumps if they're easily scratched off with a fingernail until I have a really boring afternoon at work or something.
May 29, 2018 11:57 AM - mark tomlinson: Oh, yes, forgot about that. There is some fairly decent and easy to print PC blends out there now.
May 29, 2018 11:57 AM - daniel871: Define "easy to print" in the context of other filaments. As easy as PLA/PETG or as easy as Nylon (with caveats)?
May 29, 2018 11:58 AM - mark tomlinson: Your Flex is printing pretty good IMHO
May 29, 2018 11:58 AM - mark tomlinson: At least as easy as most nylons.
    May 29, 2018 11:59 AM - daniel871: Really good bed adhesion helps.
May 29, 2018 12:00 PM - daniel871: I haven't attempted Nylon on the Mini yet because I'm enjoying not using any extra adhesives to help with 1st layer printing.
May 29, 2018 12:01 PM - daniel871: Got that PrintinZ skin on there, leveled the bed once and haven't really looked back once I found this little tool (waiting on IMGUR to finish to share it).
May 29, 2018 12:01 PM - mark tomlinson: Polymaker PC-Plus is really nice
May 29, 2018 12:03 PM - mark tomlinson: caught a sale on that a month or so ago and was pleasantly surprised
    May 29, 2018 12:03 PM - daniel871: [IMG]
May 29, 2018 12:04 PM - daniel871: That little tool slips under prints no problem, just go around the print in several spots, then pry up after going around and it pops off.

May 31, 2018 12:27 PM - NFOsec: Those are all very pretty.
May 31, 2018 12:28 PM - NFOsec: That accordian lift is one of my favorite prints to date... 1 piece, works great. I resized it to the biggest capability the bed/Z could hold.
May 31, 2018 12:45 PM - daniel871: This fat Marvin I printed to finish one spool and start the next turned out pretty good, too.

Jun 1, 2018 10:49 AM - Geof: depends on the day and conversation :D Shoutbox has been a ghost town for a long time
    Jun 1, 2018 10:55 AM - JeffTheMess: I can see that lol
Jun 1, 2018 11:00 AM - daniel871: I'm mostly posting "look at this!!" of things I print on my functioning printers.
Jun 1, 2018 11:06 AM - daniel871: Printing Adalinda on the Mini v2 in black ABS right now.

    Jun 4, 2018 6:24 AM - JeffTheMess: lmfao
Jun 4, 2018 6:53 AM - daniel871: Welp, the print finished, but there were some layer separations further down the model.
Jun 4, 2018 6:53 AM - daniel871: Like, everything from where the wings start looks great, but the bit where the legs/feet are have a lot of layer separations.
Jun 4, 2018 6:54 AM - daniel871: Trying again with a vertical Ooze Shield to see if that helps.
    Jun 4, 2018 7:21 AM - JeffTheMess: sweet
Jun 4, 2018 9:35 AM - daniel871: Here's the calibration Marvin prior to these Adalinda tests. [IMG]
Jun 4, 2018 12:53 PM - daniel871: Welp, Adalinda keeps failing, but Aria prints just fine. [IMG]
Jun 4, 2018 1:15 PM - daniel871: Apparently ABS needs to be printed fairly thick-layered and where the printer doesn't allow a printed layer to "dwell" too long before applying the next layer. Like, Adalinda's feet would delaminate while the main torso was printing, but once it got to the point where the entire body joined up everything after that point was fine. I don't know if it's thermal shock as you move away from the heated bed that stabilizes or what.
    Jun 4, 2018 1:16 PM - daniel871: (Layers at .2mm in the Aria above)
Jun 4, 2018 1:16 PM - daniel871: I usually print at .0875 layers for PLA & PETG on this printer.

Jun 5, 2018 at 1:29 PM - daniel871: So hey, the Monoprice SLA rebrand of the Wanhao printer is out. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=30994
Jun 5, 2018 at 1:41 PM - daniel871: Seems to be very similar to this listing, but the extras that come with it seem like a better price for the money: https://ultimate3dprintingstore.com...-7-v1-4-red-uv-dlp-resin-3d-printer-usawanhao
Jun 5, 2018 at 3:22 PM - mark tomlinson: Is that actually SLA? Looks like DLP, but maybe they are just calling it that since resin printers are resin printers :)
Jun 5, 2018 at 3:22 PM - mark tomlinson: SLA, DLP,. shrug, who cares. Same net effect
Jun 5, 2018 at 3:24 PM - mark tomlinson: It does say LCD screen so probably DLP or effectively DLP.. Same as using a DLP propjector really

Jun 6, 2018 4:28 AM - WheresWaldo: That printer uses an LCD screen, Same as all Wanhao D7 versions. NanoDLP is what most people run on the included LCD controller (it is an rPi based controller).
Jun 6, 2018 5:02 AM - daniel871: Printing two halves of a hollowed-out anatomical heart today, that'll be interesting to see how it turns out.
    Jun 6, 2018 5:39 AM - mark tomlinson: :)
    Jun 6, 2018 6:58 AM - daniel871: Specifically, this one: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:897878
Jun 6, 2018 2:04 PM - daniel871: Welp, the modeled supports in that Thing are basically so densely packed that they won't snap out easily.
    Jun 6, 2018 2:05 PM - daniel871: Looking for a better model.

Jun 7, 2018 at 2:39 PM - mark tomlinson: Done some small things with Taulman TechG but it really wants a bit of bed heat

    Jun 11, 2018 6:52 AM - daniel871: Oh man, I missed this video:
    Jun 11, 2018 6:53 AM - daniel871: Fun starts at about 11 minutes in.
Jun 11, 2018 7:11 AM - daniel871: Also Barnacules commented on it 2 days ago with a bit more explanation about what happened with his falling out with Robo that he hasn't gone into very much in public before now.
    Jun 11, 2018 7:18 AM - daniel871: Just noticed Waldo's thread in Off-topic.
Jun 11, 2018 7:19 AM - daniel871: Looks like he's got yet another, more detailed video on the R2 behind the paywall on his website, but I'm not willing to pay even more money for my Schadenfreude this morning.
Jun 11, 2018 8:00 AM - WheresWaldo: Dan, my 'get over yourself' wasn't about you or your post. It was about Barnacles.
Jun 11, 2018 8:04 AM - WheresWaldo: I edited my post to be clear about whom I was speaking. Not you at all. I may exercise ultimate authority and clean up the thread to eliminate the combative responses by the both of us.
Jun 11, 2018 8:12 AM - WheresWaldo: Thread was cleaned up
Jun 11, 2018 8:13 AM - daniel871: That was literally the only public comment by Barnacules where I'd seen it mentioned, which was why I brought it up. Everything I'd heard about it was second-hand via either Mark Tomlinson or one of the Mikes that no longer logs in.
Jun 11, 2018 8:34 AM - WheresWaldo: I used to be subscribed to his channel, It was all he could talk about shortly after he got his free UM2
Jun 11, 2018 8:34 AM - WheresWaldo: I unsubbscribed simply because he is no longer interesting nor entertaining.
Jun 11, 2018 8:45 AM - mark tomlinson: Too many are after ratings, not reality.

Jun 12, 2018 10:41 AM - Geof: Wouldn't it make more sense for Robo to ship him a printer to take out of the box that hasn't already been unboxed? Even though you were offering to pay shipping (which is nice :D)
Jun 12, 2018 11:14 AM - daniel871: That might be what Tom was getting at in his comment, but I don't know if he was in a hurry or already drinking or what.
