R1+ (R1.7 as I call it) has these features

    • Integrated lead screw replaces helical coupler M8 course screws
    • "Quick release" hot end mount, also includes a modification to the greg's wade body
    • New Ramps board
      • Swaps D10 and D9 positions, adds 2 pin connector for D10. Firmware stays the same (Pin 9 is fan, Pin 10 is extruder heater)
      • Removes E1 port and reroutes the trace to use as secondary Z driver
      • Adds 2 additional 12v pin outputs for LED's. Removes Aux 2 and 1
    • White LED's replace blue

If you already have an R1 and aren't having any problems out of it, the answer is "NO", it's not worth buying as an "upgrade".

If you have no 3d printer at all it might be worth the luck of the draw getting one that doesn't suffer from QC issues. Otherwise I'd say hold out until sometime next year and see what new printers are available.

The first two on Mikes list are the ones that count (from a functional standpoint).
