OK, the bed plate arrived today... I have a sneaky suspicion that this was a case of the eyes being larger than the belly :)

1/4" plate 24" long is awesome, but a little heavy. Will it work with the stock stepper? Probably if I slow it down enough.

I may just go for a really beefy stepper to replace that Y axis one ... get enough torque and it will move along. I'll post some pics after we get started deconstructing.

Not a bad idea! I have some spares for the delta that are like 80nm or 90 nm, but those are a lot better.
    Thanks.

edit: 411.43 steps / mm for that motor. just to doc it here.

I will try the stock one first, just because...

Before you install it, would you throw it on a scale? I'm curious.

Since it will be using linear rails and bearings I suspect it will move even on the stock one, but that will be harsh on them.
Larger stepper will be required I suspect to keep it cool.

Now to assemble it and sort out how fast we can actually move that thing.

What are you going to do for Bed heat?

My aluminum bed is working great but so far im priting PLA on blue tape and no bed heater. I still haven't got around to installing my heater.

well initially I will "do without" :)

I have my eye on a couple of 110v AC 600w units (I would need two given the size*) but for the initial phase, just a stone cold bed.

    *I mean the physical dimensions

I think i'm just going to run no bed heater also. I have a 110 350W and SSR here.. but

All I print is PETG and occasionally PLA neither of witch seem to need a bed heater especially on Fleks plate.

There are so many materials that don't need a bed.
That is why I am not investing the extra $$ initially either.

I will eventually add them, but the cost of a custom sized one is still $40-60 and two smaller standard sized ones are a little bit more.
Not worth it at this point.

I may experiment with the various adhesion boosters/plates/bed coatings as well.

That motor is 1/2 again as tall as the stock ones (when you account for the gearbox) but we will sort that out :)
A word of warning it will probably be early June before we get heavy into this (parts are slow to arrive and May is a busy month for personal reasons)
