The top layers still look insufficient and the corners look a bit messy.
That 'corner?' right at the front of the pic looks messy. Messy corners are probably some backlash/overshoot from a slightly sloppy axis drive (X or Y). Belt may need a little tension adjusting to sort that out. In fact, looking at the inside it looks like the belt may be shifting a bit (the layers are shifting)

The other is probably too thin of a shell.

You can see if shifting is due to belt/drive lash by slowing it way the heck down and if it gets better...you have found the culprit.

it must be my x axis. the belt is fairly loose. do the timing belts stretch over time? this on has a belt tension-er on it, however its gained back alot of slack.

Yea, they will stretch a bit over time. I would not expect them to stretch a *lot* but some, sure. They probably will do more initially...
I have had to tighten my X about 3 times over the past two years.

I've had this printer for about 9-10 months now and never have i tightened my x axis. when i upgraded my y axis i did observe initial stretching and had to tighten it.

how do you tighten it? do you have to take if of re situate it then ziptie it back together. on my y axis its as simple as tightening a screw.

and the best way I can describe the appropriate belt tension is "somewhat tighter than I thought it should be"...

Yes, you need to cut the zip-ties. I re-arranged mine a bit (with more zipties) so that there is one sticking out that I can use to tighten it with if needed.

If a picture helps I'll snap one.

Yea, it is a tough question to answer since I didn't use a strain gauge or anything :)

    ! brain blast! jk\

im going to get one of these to put between my belt ends to take up slack more efficiently than the close pin method.

It gives you really fine control (one click of the ziptie is not much).

one last annoyance, do your zip ties fatigue at all?

    No, they do not.

Just pay attention to how far out (in the X axis) the zip-tie buckle goes. Too far and it will interfere with the travel at the extreme edge.
Mine is a few mm shy of that.

My x belt is run through the spring from a clothes peg which consistently applies tension. Do you not have that spring? Let me know if you want a pic.

Yeah, but then you'd be tempted to smash your head into it when you get frustrated.
