Jan 5, 2017 at 6:49 AM - Bill Monroe: pretty good.... you?
Jan 5, 2017 at 6:51 AM - BryZad: Not to bad I think I need a bigger nozzle than my.4 mm to print out hatchbox wood pla
Jan 5, 2017 at 6:51 AM - BryZad: I seem to spotty layers printing babby groot
Jan 5, 2017 at 6:51 AM - Bill Monroe: ive never tried wood
Jan 5, 2017 at 6:52 AM - BryZad: Dan ? Jeff have you used wood pla ?
Jan 5, 2017 at 6:54 AM - JeffTheMess: nope what are you trying to make
Jan 5, 2017 at 6:56 AM - BryZad: Babby Groot
Jan 5, 2017 at 6:56 AM - BryZad: From the new gaurdians of the galaxy
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:02 AM - JeffTheMess: ahh Baby Groot cute fucker he is
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:04 AM - BryZad: Yeah he is coming out spoty on some layers like not filled all the way
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:05 AM - JeffTheMess: which groot you printing
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:19 AM - JeffTheMess: Do you even Lathe Bro!?
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:30 AM - danzca6: BryZad, I haven't used wood yet but have read using .5mm or larger is better and that you don't want to leave the filament in the hotend after use since it can gum up
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:36 AM - danzca6: Jeff that video is insane
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:46 AM - BryZad: Hmmm might be investing in a few more nozzels
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:48 AM - danzca6: do you have the stock hex or the e3d?
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:49 AM - JeffTheMess: they should
    Jan 5, 2017 at 7:49 AM - BryZad: E3d v6
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:49 AM - danzca6: I purchased the fun pack of e3d nozzles over christmas. Goes up to .8mm
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:50 AM - BryZad: Nice might looking into that
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:50 AM - danzca6: of course e3d nozzles work on the hex, so not sure why I asked
    Jan 5, 2017 at 7:50 AM - danzca6: I even bought their .15mm nozzle
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:51 AM - JeffTheMess: you HAVE to tell me how that works out the .15 nozzle!
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:51 AM - Geof: .4 works but is a jam nightmare so you have to print very slow. The .5...meh lol. I use .8 hardened for all filled materials. Yes less detail but a better printing experience overall
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:51 AM - BryZad: I need to probly get some new nozzels need to print some bb-8 parts in flex plate and some structure parts in petg
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:53 AM - danzca6: Jeff, Geof is the master of .15mm printing
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:54 AM - Geof: lol only till you start buddy
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:54 AM - JeffTheMess: goef you printed with the .15?
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:54 AM - BryZad: So Geoff you think if I slowed down printing would think be better and not get like holes in the print ?
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:55 AM - Geof: its possible yes. Also run an oiler with the filament and re examine your print temperatures. Holes is typically from a micrclog that makes extrusions top for a moment then start again. Most (if not all) woodfills are PLA based, so an oiler helps ALOT
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:55 AM - BryZad: Like spoty on layers like not all the way filled
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:56 AM - BryZad: Cool will add the oiler and give it a try
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:56 AM - JeffTheMess: oh yeah oilers help
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:57 AM - danzca6: oiler and PLA, never leave home without it
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:58 AM - Geof: bryzad keep us posted but always best to start a troubleshooting thread so you can get everyones opinion. Not many people regular the shoutbox and you'll miss out on valuable imformation :D
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:59 AM - Geof: ok gents back to work for a bit, have a good day!
Jan 5, 2017 at 7:59 AM - JeffTheMess: see ya

    Jan 5, 2017 at 8:00 AM - danzca6: bye Geof
Jan 5, 2017 at 8:00 AM - BryZad: That was my last print
Jan 5, 2017 at 8:01 AM - danzca6: anyone hearing anything good out of CES?
Jan 5, 2017 at 8:04 AM - JeffTheMess: nothing good yet
    Jan 5, 2017 at 8:04 AM - danzca6: looks like underextrusion Bry
Jan 5, 2017 at 8:05 AM - danzca6: what temp are you printing at and what brand is the woodfill?
    Jan 5, 2017 at 8:14 AM - BryZad: Hatchbox 220
Jan 5, 2017 at 8:14 AM - BryZad: Wood fill
Jan 5, 2017 at 8:28 AM - Geof: thats interesting, I'd say you are almost a bit hot from my experience with Hatchbox wood fill. Granted my few spools left are inventory from last year but I print at normal PLA temps. 190/40 etc etc and what not (all temps do vary but probably not by 20 degree)
Jan 5, 2017 at 8:29 AM - Geof: now with wood fill you and set layer temps (so layer 1-10 at 190, 2-3 at 200 etc) and get a neat temp color change to the wood fills :D
    Jan 5, 2017 at 8:37 AM - WheresWaldo: Morning
    Jan 5, 2017 at 8:40 AM - BryZad: Morning
Jan 5, 2017 at 8:40 AM - BryZad: Geoff did you see the link I posted about the print I did of Groot head
Jan 5, 2017 at 10:16 AM - Geof: yes I did, see my comment above?
Jan 5, 2017 at 10:35 AM - BryZad: Got yeah
Jan 5, 2017 at 12:14 PM - Harry: New C2 section on the forum now!
Jan 5, 2017 at 1:23 PM - mark tomlinson: thanks Harry
Jan 5, 2017 at 2:22 PM - BryZad: Mark have you used hatchbox wood pla ?

Jan 6, 2017 6:17 AM - Bill Monroe: good morning

Jan 6, 2017 8:45 AM - Toro1966: Morning all. Just noticed Robo was selling R1+ with LCDs and it looks like a modified firmware version
Jan 6, 2017 2:47 PM - danzca6: Very interesting Toro. Looks like a special EDU version. The LCD is similar to the R2/C2 style as well.
    Jan 6, 2017 2:48 PM - danzca6: https://store.robo3d.com/collection...nter-with-attached-screen?variant=29528148163
Jan 6, 2017 2:48 PM - danzca6: makes me wonder if they also have the rPi
Jan 6, 2017 2:55 PM - danzca6: and it appears to be touchscreen
Jan 6, 2017 2:58 PM - Geof: Waldo had this figured out in a thread can't recall where that thread is but robo asked him if he was ok with them sharing his work (implementing and selling)
Jan 6, 2017 2:58 PM - Geof: Not positive but seems like it
Jan 6, 2017 2:59 PM - danzca6: WW and I have been going back and forth on it...didn't know they asked if they could sell it
Jan 6, 2017 2:59 PM - danzca6: Since WW was just using their github files, I am surprised they had to ask.
Jan 6, 2017 3:00 PM - danzca6: Wonder if they will make it an upgrade for the rest of us
    Jan 6, 2017 3:00 PM - Geof: Maybe different touch screen I'm remembering .
Jan 6, 2017 3:01 PM - danzca6: still interesting they came out with it in this late hour
Jan 6, 2017 3:01 PM - Geof: I'd seen some a long time ago only available to schools with a screen but I think it was a lcd
Jan 6, 2017 3:02 PM - danzca6: yeah it was just the regular lcd
Jan 6, 2017 3:03 PM - Geof: Craziness lol. Get your c2 yet danz lol
    Jan 6, 2017 3:04 PM - danzca6: yeah a got 2 of them now, want one?
    Jan 6, 2017 3:04 PM - danzca6: haha
    Jan 6, 2017 3:04 PM - danzca6: I can't afford anything right now
Jan 6, 2017 3:04 PM - Geof: Lol no thank you I'm over cold builds :)
Jan 6, 2017 3:04 PM - Geof: I may know that feeling my friend
Jan 6, 2017 3:06 PM - Geof: May have a filastruder n the way next week, got one unhappy lady lol
Jan 6, 2017 3:06 PM - danzca6: what are you going to do with that?
Jan 6, 2017 3:06 PM - danzca6: filament is so cheap these days, I can't see myself trying to make my own
Jan 6, 2017 3:07 PM - danzca6: wanted one when they came out though
Jan 6, 2017 3:08 PM - danzca6: did you get the winder as well?
Jan 6, 2017 3:10 PM - Geof: Still in talks with them but yes winder too.
Jan 6, 2017 3:10 PM - Geof: I'm over the complaint of "the last red is different than this red" lol
    Jan 6, 2017 3:11 PM - danzca6: oh I can see that
Jan 6, 2017 3:12 PM - danzca6: dye batches will always run the risk of being a bit different
Jan 6, 2017 3:13 PM - danzca6: well, wife is out of town through the weekend. I need to go get dinner for the kidos
Jan 6, 2017 3:14 PM - Geof: Ok buddy ttyl
Jan 6, 2017 5:10 PM - max longstaff: I absolutely hate the wade extruder, is it a viable option to put a reprap i3 style extruder on the i3? (i can't see why not)
Jan 6, 2017 5:15 PM - danzca6: With a 3d printer and modeling software, you can make anything work
Jan 6, 2017 5:16 PM - Geof: Ditto. What's the issue with your wades?
Jan 6, 2017 5:16 PM - max longstaff: cool, im looking at putting a reprap extruder on it atm, the wade has too many failure points to print sustainably imo
Jan 6, 2017 5:17 PM - max longstaff: got a spare 3d printer so can print parts :)
    Jan 6, 2017 5:17 PM - Geof: LOL
Jan 6, 2017 5:19 PM - max longstaff: @Geof (its more my inexperience with it i guess) but good hobbed bolts are hard to come by in england and expensive also, i hate the adjustable springs loss of tension over time has made them unusable a few times
Jan 6, 2017 5:23 PM - max longstaff: any good suggestions for extruders? otherwise gunna get this reprap i3 one
Jan 6, 2017 5:25 PM - Geof: Hmmmmm. Titan by the e3d guys is pretty solid
Jan 6, 2017 5:26 PM - max longstaff: nice did have a look at that one since i got a v6 also
Jan 6, 2017 5:26 PM - Geof: As far as the wades add washers to the bolts (I added 2 per), hobbled bolt hob goblin by e3d maybe.
Jan 6, 2017 5:27 PM - Geof: A lot of people are very happy with the Titan
Jan 6, 2017 5:27 PM - max longstaff: cool ill have a look at the hob goblin i have tried 2 washers think the main problem is the bolt then cos it grinds through everytime also
Jan 6, 2017 5:27 PM - max longstaff: even on very loose settigns
Jan 6, 2017 5:28 PM - Geof: What material? Sure your extruder isn't stuttering instead of running ?
Jan 6, 2017 5:28 PM - Geof: Post a troubleshooting thread with some pics and I'll eyeball it
Jan 6, 2017 5:29 PM - max longstaff: pla, ye i can remove the filament and put it back in and it runs again for like 1 minute
Jan 6, 2017 5:29 PM - max longstaff: i have done previosly for the same problem about a year ago, the robos been benched since
Jan 6, 2017 5:30 PM - Geof: Using an oiler ? Removed and torched clean the nozzle ?
Jan 6, 2017 5:30 PM - max longstaff: yep, to both
Jan 6, 2017 5:30 PM - Geof: Or doing a cold pull how does the end of the filament look?
Jan 6, 2017 5:30 PM - max longstaff: it runs very thick perfectly until it grinds up
Jan 6, 2017 5:31 PM - max longstaff: i did have that issue where the pfte didnt reach bottom fully still needs a little better of a cut on the end but its working well now the actual hot end
Jan 6, 2017 5:31 PM - max longstaff: can push through easily
Jan 6, 2017 5:31 PM - Geof: Does the bearing spin that pushes against the filament?
Jan 6, 2017 5:31 PM - max longstaff: hmm ill have a look didnt think of that
Jan 6, 2017 5:32 PM - max longstaff: yes but its fairly stiff
Jan 6, 2017 5:32 PM - Geof: Oh and check the black hinge the bearing sits in. Mine was broken and caused me tons of grief
Jan 6, 2017 5:32 PM - max longstaff: that piece is fine replaced that already
Jan 6, 2017 5:32 PM - Geof: Pull it out and spin by hand, maybe just dirty/sticky?
Jan 6, 2017 5:33 PM - Geof: Oh ! And make sure your ptfe tube isn't being squished by the bearing
Jan 6, 2017 5:34 PM - max longstaff: pfte being squashed by the bearing? where would that happen my pfte doesnt make contact with the bearing (am i being stupid here)
Jan 6, 2017 5:35 PM - max longstaff: oh you said isn't dont worry read it wrong
Jan 6, 2017 5:36 PM - Geof: Lol no worries. If you take out the e3d and extrude filament does it extrude nice ? Or remove nozzle and try? Maybe just a bum nozzle ?
Jan 6, 2017 5:37 PM - Geof: Oh! And the nozzle where it screws into the heater block, is there a gap between them ?
Jan 6, 2017 5:37 PM - max longstaff: there is a small gap between the heater block and nozzle ye
Jan 6, 2017 5:39 PM - Geof: Send me a pic of the throat going into the block ?
Jan 6, 2017 5:39 PM - max longstaff: if there is nothing infront of the filament it will extrude fine its the pressure of pushing it through the nozzle that makes it grind after a while will send in 2 seconds :)
Jan 6, 2017 5:40 PM - Geof: Yep so issue with nozzle or hotend assembly I'd bet
    Jan 6, 2017 5:41 PM - max longstaff: possibly
Jan 6, 2017 5:44 PM - max longstaff: ive had no luck with e3d hot ends so far tbh 3rd one
    Jan 6, 2017 5:44 PM - Geof: Wow !genuine e3d ?
Jan 6, 2017 5:45 PM - max longstaff: 2 were, this one is half real half clone
Jan 6, 2017 5:46 PM - max longstaff: not willing to spend as much on this printer anymore spent £1500 in total and never had a good print
Jan 6, 2017 5:50 PM - max longstaff: sorry about quality
Jan 6, 2017 5:51 PM - Geof: Ill pm you

    Jan 7, 2017 at 7:10 AM - Toro1966: Morning all. Have a multi-color print S3D question
Jan 7, 2017 at 7:15 AM - Bill Monroe: Toro
    Jan 7, 2017 at 7:17 AM - Toro1966: Morning Bill
Jan 7, 2017 at 7:20 AM - Toro1966: Trying to figure out how to print two colors in S3D. Watched the video and have my processes at the appropriate layer heights. I also have saved them to disk. If I understand it correctly, I print one, when it's finished, print the second, etc. My question is will I have any adhesion issues between the two processes because of the pause and also is there a way to do it without cooling down the printer between processes
Jan 7, 2017 at 7:21 AM - Bill Monroe: no real issues with adhesion, usually is OK unless the materials are different
Jan 7, 2017 at 7:22 AM - Toro1966: So after the first process stops - and while I swap filament to start second process, the printer will start to cool correct?
Jan 7, 2017 at 7:23 AM - Bill Monroe: maybe, not sure.. you can always force it back on using the panel
Jan 7, 2017 at 7:23 AM - Toro1966: Because the current print will be complete. I assume it won't cool much because I will change and restart pretty quickly. Also- I have it homing in the g code when it starts. Should I remove that for the second process?
Jan 7, 2017 at 7:23 AM - Bill Monroe: if you're using layers and multiple processes, I think it will keep the temps on.. try it!
Jan 7, 2017 at 7:24 AM - Toro1966: What about the start G code for homing. Should I remove it? Because the printer doesn't know there are multiple processes because each is a different file.
Jan 7, 2017 at 7:25 AM - Bill Monroe: ah.. I would remove the Z homing at least
Jan 7, 2017 at 7:26 AM - Bill Monroe: it is possible though to do it all in one program
Jan 7, 2017 at 7:26 AM - Bill Monroe: problem i usually see is layer shifting do to manhandling the head while changing colors
    Jan 7, 2017 at 7:28 AM - Toro1966: Thanks Bill.
    Jan 7, 2017 at 7:28 AM - Toro1966: Going to try it.
Jan 7, 2017 at 7:29 AM - Bill Monroe: the best way.. one test is worth any number of expert opinions
Jan 7, 2017 at 7:29 AM - Bill Monroe: good luck!
    Jan 7, 2017 at 7:31 AM - Toro1966: Lol - Thanks!
Jan 7, 2017 at 8:02 AM - Toro1966: Any tips on flex filament. Have some and going to try my first print. Only real tips I know are slow speed (10mm/s) or so and prevent retraction. Any other thoughts? How about z offset? MOre or less squished?
Jan 7, 2017 at 10:06 AM - Toro1966: Ok - it didn't work with the multicolor. The problem is I think in either my start or end script.
Jan 7, 2017 at 10:55 AM - NFOsec: Bill: Isn't that what Chuck Yeager said?
    Jan 7, 2017 at 12:30 PM - jim3Dbot: Wernher von Braun
Jan 7, 2017 at 2:19 PM - max longstaff: hey, anyone know why there's a fan and heatsink on the side of reprap extruders and if they are necessary ?
Jan 7, 2017 at 2:20 PM - max longstaff: oh i think i figured it out nevermind
Jan 7, 2017 at 2:54 PM - Toro1966: Great success! Managed to get the dual colors! [IMG]
    Jan 7, 2017 at 2:55 PM - Toro1966: [IMG]
Jan 7, 2017 at 3:03 PM - max longstaff: nice! looks clean
    Jan 7, 2017 at 3:30 PM - Toro1966: Thanks Max!

Jan 11, 2017 10:28 AM - Mike Kelly: dec 2017 is probably optimistic
Jan 11, 2017 12:10 PM - daniel871: Wazer is probably going to be right there with Glowforge when it comes to actual deliveries.
Jan 11, 2017 12:11 PM - daniel871: At least the entry price is high enough to keep the kind of people that fall for the Glowforge "set it up in the kitchen!" graphics from buying one.

Jan 16, 2017 at 2:51 PM - Michael J. Hammel: Just unpacked. Running Fedora, wife has a Mac. Should I build MatterControl for Linux? Is there some other Linux software? I can gen STL's with Blender. Need STL-to-Robo3D software stack, whatever that is.
Jan 16, 2017 at 3:09 PM - Michael J. Hammel: Hmm. I'm starting to think OctoPrint+Pi might be the best solution, so we can share the printer.

Jan 17, 2017 2:53 PM - BryZad: Question for anyone do you think a stepper motor could work for a servo ? Or would the torque on the stepper motor make it skip or strip ?
Jan 17, 2017 6:56 PM - Bill Monroe: *any* motor that gets movement feedback and adjusts accordingly is a motor in a servo *system*. Most "servo motors" are really just ordinary motors that have a controller recieving postiion info and making adjustments. There are servo systems that use stepper motors too.
Jan 17, 2017 6:58 PM - Bill Monroe: really, if you have a well designed mechanical system and a stepper is adequate size, there's not a huge advantage to using a servo system instead, unless you want some lighting speed.. relatively speaking, servo motor have low starting torque but can run much faster whereas a stepper has all it's torque at stall, fading as it picks up speed.
Jan 17, 2017 6:59 PM - Bill Monroe: So it all depends on what you need it to do.

Jan 18, 2017 5:45 PM - John in MS: I need to replace the wire that goes from the hotend to the board below. I think it might be the extruder heater power cable. Can that be bought elsewhere or must it come from Robo? Thanks

Jan 19, 2017 at 7:58 AM - Kiah: Does anyone remember what the #define DEFAULT_AXIS_STEPS_PER_UNIT should be for a Robo3d R1 (beta I presume, I got it from original kickstarter) should be after upgrading to 8mm metric rods?
Jan 19, 2017 at 8:27 AM - daniel871: That would depend on whether you're using M8x1.25 or M8x1.00 threaded rods (M8x1.25 is the most common, but if you did it yourself there is a chance of accidentally ordering the other one).
    Jan 19, 2017 at 8:28 AM - daniel871: Look here: http://www.prusaprinters.org/calculator/
Jan 19, 2017 at 8:29 AM - daniel871: And scroll down to "Steps per millimeter - leadscrew driven systems"
Jan 19, 2017 at 10:21 AM - WheresWaldo: Original beta used imperial threads (5/16 threaded rods) not metric. The number I believe is 2267.72
Jan 19, 2017 at 6:28 PM - Kiah: I ended up switching myself to m8x1.25, back in the Z wobble days. I've tried with 2560, but for some reason that does weird things to Z movement (it'll start movingt, and then stop a second later and make angry noises)
Jan 19, 2017 at 6:29 PM - Kiah: This all came to pass because I updated to a newer firmware after getting my printer out of storage, and I didn't keep the old one saved.
Jan 19, 2017 at 6:29 PM - Kiah: Might look into obtaining a leadscrew kit.. might be simpler long term.

    Jan 21, 2017 8:19 AM - Toro1966: Morning guys
Jan 21, 2017 1:14 PM - Michael J. Hammel: Afternoon - anyone home today? My new Robo3D+ has a jammed feeder. PLA won't go through and can't be pulled out.
Jan 21, 2017 1:22 PM - Toro1966: Heat it up to 260 and see if it will budge.
Jan 21, 2017 1:34 PM - Michael J. Hammel: I found a way to clear it. Raised the Z axis (using OctoPrint). Then I could force it through. Found out how to pull off those screws so I could get it out, clipped off the end and could feed it again to see it manually extrude. Now I'm retesting. I think the Z-axis might need to be adjusted, but I'm not sure how to do that with OctoPrint. Maybe modify the g-code?
    Jan 21, 2017 1:38 PM - Toro1966: Good question,. Unfiortunately I don't use octoprint.
Jan 21, 2017 1:40 PM - Michael J. Hammel: I can see the gear spinning but there is a loud "click" and the filament does not feed.
    Jan 21, 2017 1:40 PM - Toro1966: sounds like you still have a clog
Jan 21, 2017 1:40 PM - Michael J. Hammel: But I can manully push it through.
    Jan 21, 2017 1:40 PM - Toro1966: did you remove the nozzle?
Jan 21, 2017 1:41 PM - Michael J. Hammel: No. How do I do that?
Jan 21, 2017 1:42 PM - Toro1966: You have to use an adjustable wrench to hold the heater block and then I believe it's a 7mm for the nozzle itself. Remove it while it's hot.
Jan 21, 2017 1:43 PM - Toro1966: What I do is remove the nozzle, then release the quick release holding the hotend in. Then I use a small allen wrench to push the clog out.
Jan 21, 2017 1:44 PM - WheresWaldo: If it is standard Robo firmware, just go to OctoPrint and in terminal tab issue a M565 Z-n.nn where -n.nnn is how far yopu need to move the nozzle up for layer number 1. Not layer height, it is an adjustment to provide clearance.
Jan 21, 2017 1:45 PM - WheresWaldo: Clicking on layer 1 only usually means nozzle is too close to the bed .
    Jan 21, 2017 1:52 PM - Michael J. Hammel: That's what I hear - a click on layer 1. Let me try the M command.
    Jan 21, 2017 1:58 PM - Michael J. Hammel: What is n.nn units? mm?
Jan 21, 2017 2:01 PM - Michael J. Hammel: I tried 0.5 and 1.5. Send says ok and recv says ok. No visible or audible change to the printer however. This is a stock OctoPi install, fwiw.
Jan 21, 2017 2:08 PM - Michael J. Hammel: Okay, I think this may be it. I found this discussion: http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/revamped-m565-z-offset-set-it-and-forget-it.4748/
Jan 21, 2017 2:10 PM - Michael J. Hammel: So that's why I saw no change immediately - it's stored. The updated value was used when the print started. Filament started to flow. Badly, but my Z offset was too big (1.5). So now I can try it again, say with 0.8. Looks little like trial and error but at least there is a path to success now. :)
Jan 21, 2017 2:41 PM - Bill Monroe: Does this room have valet?
    Jan 21, 2017 3:01 PM - Michael J. Hammel: So here's the real solution to the Z-offset problem: http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/auto-bed-leveling.1590/page-3
Jan 21, 2017 3:02 PM - Michael J. Hammel: I realize this is probably covered in the manual but I'm not using MatterControl because I needed OctoPrint to share the printer with my wife (a Mac user) and me (a Linux user).
Jan 21, 2017 3:04 PM - Michael J. Hammel: You can manually type the commands listed in the terminal window. After setting the Z-offset with M565 you then only need to (possibly) re-level the bed with G29 before each print. Minor tweak to the g-code, I think.
