    Hi all,

    Running an R1 Plus here.

One of the 608ZZ bearings (the one on the right side) got squished in and deformed, so I bought a new set of them off of Amazon to replace the squished one.

Now, the bolt (with the teeth that feeds the filament) keeps tightening as the printer tries to feed new filament. As a result, I get nothing but thin webbing or a grunting noise from the printer (because it's not turning).

It's roughly the same problem in this thread: http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/extruder-bearing.17235/#post-98144

except it seems like now the bolt doesn't turn with the bearing, but keeps tightening.

How do I fix this ?

The hobbed bolt has two nuts on it, one is the jam nut that tightens against the other. It should not tighten the main nut as the bolt turns or it is assembled wrong.

You want to have the nut closest to the hobb barely touching the extruder case and then bring the jam nut up tight to that one and tighten the two nuts against each other. Not the extruder.

My hobbed bolt doesn't have two nuts - it had a washer behind the large gear (the nut that tightens it fits in there), a washer behind that and two 608ZZ bearings after the washer.

Tried lubricating it more this evening, no luck. It still tightens as it feeds.

If it fits put a second nut on it, it should be an M8 (8 mm). Available at home centers and hardware stores all over the world.

So.... take off one of the bearings and the washer and put on another nut ? Got a picture of what that looks like installed ?

Maybe a picture of what you have installed... sounds like it might be wrong. Like Waldo says, get an extra nut if that is all that is missing.

Sounds to me like the nylock nut is just bad. Give replacing it a shot or use thread lock (loctite). The other option is to loosen up that large gear a bit more but if the nut is bad it won't help for long

That's it, Geoff! My brother in law saw this thread and filled me in.

I already picked up a regular 8mm (thanks Waldo) and tightened it on the back of the worn out nylock nut (replaced the bearing in your picture).

Printing a torus right now. So far, it works.

    Thanks everyone.

Grab a few when you get new ones. Nylock nut oems actually say to replace once removed. In reality thats not true but spares are good
