They should really release a hobby edition that doesn't have all the fancy tools but has the core tools that are useful for 3d part design. Do you really need routing, sheet metal, injection molding tools? No but they don't see just the core tools for some reason.
The only difference between the full version and the student version is the student watermark on your drawings. However at one point the student license only lasted 1 yr I don't know if that is still true. I'll bug my rep on Monday and ask.
According to the linked website it was 1 year.
I have the full version, but I also use it for stress analysis and flow analysis. Super awesome tool.
i still find catia v5 to be easyer to use
