Use the stock x carriage with the aluminum mounting plate?

Or just to more easily mount a single j head without jamming it so far up there. In covering a good deal of hexagon heat fins right now

hmm would the plate fit on the underside? Would give you some more fin access.

Will the mounting plate work with the current carriage?

Yup. It's a pretty standard sized spacing.

making a way to fit on the underside would be awesome. Could take this fan design and manipulate/merge 2 of them together just right to make a quad fan beast for the underside. Still small and light, would need a heck of a lot of tweeking but the idea is sound.

Just checked. The plate's too long to fit under without cutting some off.

That said aluminum is like butter to a hack saw...

Yeah Mike, i tried fitting the aluminum plate underneath first too but it doesn't quite fit. I have mine installed in the stock mount successfully. Last night I installed my new hobbed bolt, upgraded the firmware to the latest version (3-14-14), and calibrated the extruder for the new bolt. All good and printing. Whilst installing my hexagon i noticed almost every M4 bolt and screw was slightly loose, I could slightly twist the steppers where the were mounted, so I checked and tightened every bolt and screw. I'll print a calibration cube and post the pic soon. I'm very happy with the hexagon and consider it a must have upgrade even for just printing PLA.

@reprapdiscount. What's the max temperature for the silicon hotend jacket? The jacket works incredibly too by the way. I have zero temperature fluctuation now.

    I agree with Galaxius -

Thanks for letting us test these for you Elvira.

Another awesome side effect of the insulating jacket is that it makes it much safer to work with your hands in the vicinity of the hot end now - I've accidentally bumped it a few times now @ 235*C and haven't had any issues with burns.

Compared to an un-jacketed hot-end, it heats up ever so slightly quicker - as expected too.

    this looks very cool :)

The max temp for the rubber is 400 degrees celsius, so no problem. Don't be afraid, you can touch the heater block with fingers for a couple of seconds without hurt your fingers.

Yes - Kudos out to Elvira.

The other good thing about the insulation - Excess material does not stick to it less mess.

So far I have successfully printed with Nylon, PLA, T-glase, and NinjaFlex.
The only thing close to a jam I had was when I printed PLA too cool.

53 min print with excellent results. PLA, 0.3mm layers, 3 perimeters/top/bottom, 25% infill, 65C bed, 210C hotend. The silicon jacket kept the hotend perfectly stable. I'm loving the Hexagon.

    51mm diameter coffee tamper.

Just got my hexagon installed with the mounting plate, 2 nozzle fans, silicone cover, and heatsink fan. calibration cube worked great - looking forward to messing around with it more this weekend.

Spik3, what setup did you use to mount 2 cooling fans?

I used the dual mount design for e3d. See here. They only fit because I cut the mount plate and attached it to the bottom of the x carriage and didn't use the normal j-head mounting bolts. I'll try to get a picture up here pretty soon.
