    Aug 15, 2015 11:50 AM - donhuevo: WTF... I didn't
Aug 15, 2015 11:50 AM - Mike Glass: haha poor don
    Aug 15, 2015 11:50 AM - donhuevo: I wanna see something cool
Aug 15, 2015 11:50 AM - Mike Kelly: set them down to 10"?
    Aug 15, 2015 11:50 AM - Mike Glass: show you a pic
    Aug 15, 2015 11:52 AM - Mike Glass: [IMG]
Aug 15, 2015 11:52 AM - donhuevo: that IS cool
    Aug 15, 2015 11:53 AM - Mike Kelly: so really i just need 10"
Aug 15, 2015 11:53 AM - Mike Glass: guess depends oh how deep you plan on cutting and where you mount is attached.
Aug 15, 2015 11:54 AM - Mike Glass: 8-10 inches should be fine, I had these already so I used them.
Aug 15, 2015 11:55 AM - Mike Glass: I see some of them way bigger, not sure why you would want them too tall.
Aug 15, 2015 11:55 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah i'm struggling to envision a situation where you'd need that much z
Aug 15, 2015 11:57 AM - Mike Glass: ok Don your in.
    Aug 15, 2015 11:58 AM - donhuevo: haha! I like feet
    Aug 15, 2015 11:58 AM - Mike Glass: that didnt sound right..lol
Aug 15, 2015 12:04 PM - Mike Kelly: i think i should have tightened this down before putting the middle together
Aug 15, 2015 12:29 PM - Kevin Nguyen: whats everyone having for lunch xD
    Aug 15, 2015 12:33 PM - jim3Dbot: Soooo...ordered the parts for the 'z' IR distant sensor......IR Emitters now obsoleted...crossed to another with 15degree view angle & similar specs. Ordered thru-hole micro for prototyping, then switch to SMT..board size, hopefully 12mm x 12mm, instead of 25mm x 18mm...
    Aug 15, 2015 12:35 PM - Mike Kelly: nice
    Aug 15, 2015 12:37 PM - Mike Glass: when you shipping?..lol
Aug 15, 2015 12:37 PM - jim3Dbot: Began pcb layout, but stopped....seems like another shape may be more desirable....sensors emitters & detector should be about 12-14mm apart....board shape should be designed after proto'ed
    Aug 15, 2015 12:38 PM - Mike Kelly: don't forget mounting :)
Aug 15, 2015 12:39 PM - Mike Glass: heat gun works on drying the thread lock.
Aug 15, 2015 12:39 PM - jim3Dbot: yep, chk'ed out his thing'verse fan dict with mting holes....after code is downloaded in vector brd proto then we will look at mountin'
    Aug 15, 2015 12:41 PM - jbigler1986: Lunch? Its almost dinner time
Aug 15, 2015 12:41 PM - jim3Dbot: Atmel IC available in smaller package than the SOC 0.50" lead pitch....next size down is probably 0.20" lead pitch...
    Aug 15, 2015 12:41 PM - jbigler1986: For me anyways
    Aug 15, 2015 12:43 PM - jim3Dbot: Parts received about wends/thurs next week...proto build by Thurs/Fri....then there is the fricken code...download
Aug 15, 2015 12:44 PM - donhuevo: can't wait to see it in action!
Aug 15, 2015 12:46 PM - jim3Dbot: With the board so close to tip, thinking to use Thermoflect heat shield tape on back side of brd & watch max temps of components used.....
Aug 15, 2015 12:47 PM - jim3Dbot: leaving myself the weekend to work with the software fight...
Aug 15, 2015 12:51 PM - jim3Dbot: parts are surprising cheap.....a few dollars only.....think board panelized with may be 50 breakaway brds ay only be 0.50 to 0.75 per sensor brd....interesting project...
    Aug 15, 2015 12:52 PM - jim3Dbot: assembly less than $4.00 I think...
    Aug 15, 2015 12:57 PM - jim3Dbot: Oh, damn decimals wrong place lead pitch 0.050 soc to 0.020" pitch...whatever..
Aug 15, 2015 1:03 PM - Mike Kelly: MG: does he cut the coupler nut/
    Aug 15, 2015 1:09 PM - Mike Glass: ?
Aug 15, 2015 1:10 PM - Mike Glass: down the middle?
Aug 15, 2015 1:10 PM - Mike Kelly: just seems like his drawings show one t hat's like 2/3 the normal length
    Aug 15, 2015 1:11 PM - Mike Kelly: http://thingiverse-production-new.s...s/47/be/99/70/bc/Z_Motor_preview_featured.jpg
Aug 15, 2015 1:11 PM - Mike Glass: there are two. one is 3/4 and one is regular in the z nut holder
Aug 15, 2015 1:37 PM - Mike Glass: Mike you gonna get the plexi with the bigbox?
    Aug 15, 2015 1:59 PM - Mike Kelly: i haven't decided yet
    Aug 15, 2015 1:59 PM - Mike Kelly: i think so
    Aug 15, 2015 2:01 PM - Mike Kelly: cut the 2 10" pipes. I think they're too short....
Aug 15, 2015 2:01 PM - Mike Glass: what size you making
    Aug 15, 2015 2:01 PM - Mike Kelly: i'm using the z rods from the r1.6 so they're 12"
Aug 15, 2015 2:02 PM - Mike Kelly: i guess if the threaded rod is longer than the z conduit it's fine
Aug 15, 2015 2:02 PM - Mike Glass: I did the same thing it sticks down a little far but still not a big deal
Aug 15, 2015 2:03 PM - Mike Kelly: ok cool
Aug 15, 2015 2:03 PM - Mike Glass: Im think Im going to use the extra lead screw I have on the cnc.
Aug 15, 2015 2:04 PM - Mike Glass: not sure if the nut will fit though
Aug 15, 2015 2:05 PM - Mike Kelly: did you drill the Z conduit on a drill press
Aug 15, 2015 2:06 PM - Mike Glass: [IMG] This is what I ended up doing as I couldnt find a long nut.
Aug 15, 2015 2:09 PM - Mike Glass: This is how I drilled the conduit. [IMG]
Aug 15, 2015 2:09 PM - Mike Glass: its my bottle opener jig..lol
Aug 15, 2015 2:09 PM - Mike Glass: cutter not opener..
    Aug 15, 2015 2:21 PM - Mike Kelly: ah
Aug 15, 2015 2:22 PM - Mike Kelly: what do you mean couldn't find a long nut
Aug 15, 2015 2:24 PM - Mike Glass: the 3/4 that fits in the z nut holder, so I used just regular 5/16 nuts
    Aug 15, 2015 2:25 PM - Mike Kelly: ah
Aug 15, 2015 2:26 PM - jbigler1986: Got most of the base built
Aug 15, 2015 2:26 PM - Mike Kelly: man i cannot get the damn z conduits into the motor base
    Aug 15, 2015 2:27 PM - jbigler1986: Bigger hammer
Aug 15, 2015 2:28 PM - Mike Glass: you need one of these to cut allthread and smooth rod. [IMG]
Aug 15, 2015 2:28 PM - Michael DiFilippo: Hey Mike any chance you have a design file you could share for the fan holder for the Chimera/Cyclops?
Aug 15, 2015 2:28 PM - Mike Glass: loosen the bearings Mike.
    Aug 15, 2015 2:29 PM - Mike Kelly: mg i tried that
Aug 15, 2015 2:29 PM - Mike Glass: its tight
Aug 15, 2015 2:29 PM - Mike Glass: make sure you sand the edges of the conduit down
Aug 15, 2015 2:29 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah i need to do that
Aug 15, 2015 2:30 PM - Mike Glass: what did you cut them with, Pipe Cutter?
    Aug 15, 2015 2:30 PM - Mike Kelly: http://www.thingiverse.com/make:151998 interesting make
    Aug 15, 2015 2:30 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah a tube cutter
Aug 15, 2015 2:31 PM - Mike Glass: The one a got is sweet, husky brand.
Aug 15, 2015 2:32 PM - Mike Kelly: i think i got mine at hf
Aug 15, 2015 2:33 PM - Mike Glass: haha wth. hanging from wire..
    Aug 15, 2015 2:34 PM - Mike Kelly: right?
Aug 15, 2015 2:37 PM - Mike Kelly: did you design that thing mike?
Aug 15, 2015 2:38 PM - Mike Glass: no, its on thingiverse
Aug 15, 2015 2:38 PM - Mike Glass: ive used the shit out of it
Aug 15, 2015 2:39 PM - Mike Glass: dont you just hate when you just used a tool and cant find it..ugg
Aug 15, 2015 2:40 PM - Mike Kelly: you have no idea how often i do that
Aug 15, 2015 2:40 PM - Mike Kelly: also michael i haven't forgotten about you
Aug 15, 2015 2:40 PM - Mike Glass: omg I swear it takes me like 3 times as long to do stuff because of it..lol
Aug 15, 2015 2:41 PM - Mike Kelly: haha ditto
Aug 15, 2015 2:41 PM - Mike Glass: and my ocd kicks in that I have to use that one, because I started with it...sheesh
Aug 15, 2015 2:42 PM - Michael DiFilippo: No worries
Aug 15, 2015 2:43 PM - Mike Glass: Hey Micheal, what have you been making lately
    Aug 15, 2015 2:44 PM - Mike Kelly: https://www.dropbox.com/s/p4q16lkmuv4setx/Fan Holder chilops.SLDPRT?dl=0
Aug 15, 2015 2:44 PM - Michael DiFilippo: last real print was a pre-filter I had posted on here couple weeks ago. Since then been working on upgrading to the E3D Chimera. So printed up Mike's new x carriage
Aug 15, 2015 2:44 PM - Michael DiFilippo: you are the best Mike thanks!
Aug 15, 2015 2:45 PM - Michael DiFilippo: Now trying to retune the entire machine oh the joys
    Aug 15, 2015 2:45 PM - Mike Glass: pre-filter?
Aug 15, 2015 2:45 PM - Mike Glass: did you do the lead screw upgrade?
Aug 15, 2015 2:46 PM - Michael DiFilippo: basically a box with a removable lid and a ton of holes in it. Had threading to mate up to a filter. http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/water-pump-pre-filter.6424/
Aug 15, 2015 2:47 PM - Michael DiFilippo: I haven't done the lead screw upgrade yet. I had talked to Harry about it when I saw it (i haven't been around as much lately) and was inquiring if all the QC issues were worked out with the latest batch. I'll probably order it once they stop being on back order
Aug 15, 2015 2:47 PM - Mike Kelly: mg what do i search for for the tube jig
Aug 15, 2015 2:49 PM - Mike Glass: hmm, I just made it with scrap, it was a bottle cutter so you could search for that.
Aug 15, 2015 2:49 PM - Mike Kelly: actually i'll be back in a bit. i'm gonna swap in this ssd
    Aug 15, 2015 2:50 PM - Mike Glass: ok

Aug 15, 2015 2:50 PM - Michael DiFilippo: Later Mike. I'm out guys have a good rest of your weekend!
    Aug 15, 2015 2:51 PM - Mike Glass: u 2
Aug 15, 2015 4:06 PM - Mike Kelly: and back
Aug 15, 2015 4:06 PM - Mike Glass: what did you do?
Aug 15, 2015 4:08 PM - Mike Kelly: my old ssd was throwing errors so i had them RMA me one
Aug 15, 2015 4:08 PM - Mike Kelly: just cloned my old one
Aug 15, 2015 4:08 PM - Mike Glass: awe gotcha.
Aug 15, 2015 4:09 PM - Mike Kelly: yup, and i forgot we're going out tonight, so there's that
Aug 15, 2015 4:10 PM - Mike Glass: have a good time, im gonna rot here and work on this cnc crap.
Aug 15, 2015 4:12 PM - Mike Kelly: i'd rather be doing that
Aug 15, 2015 4:12 PM - Mike Kelly: i need to design the tool holder for this dewalt
Aug 15, 2015 4:15 PM - Mike Kelly: do you think two smaller clamps is better than one big clamp
Aug 15, 2015 4:17 PM - Sims Reaper: so I've been busy with some minor printer upgrades, installed an E3D volcano hotend, and added a Smart Graphics LCD, but I'm hitting a snag now. Was hoping for some advice.
    Aug 15, 2015 4:18 PM - Mike Kelly: sup
Aug 15, 2015 4:18 PM - Sims Reaper: I tried printing some Taulman 910, and my hotend is having trouble keeping the temps up while the cooling fan is at 100%
Aug 15, 2015 4:18 PM - Mike Kelly: hmmm is it blowing on the thermistor
Aug 15, 2015 4:19 PM - Sims Reaper: ya, it is actually. I should probably try turning the hotend around
Aug 15, 2015 4:19 PM - Mike Kelly: i've never really had that idea before but i could see that being the case
Aug 15, 2015 4:20 PM - Mike Kelly: i agree with the 25w heater on principle but on the volcano I think the extra power would be beneficial
Aug 15, 2015 4:22 PM - Sims Reaper: if turning it doesnt work, I can always just run the fan at 70%. it keeps up then
Aug 15, 2015 4:27 PM - Mike Kelly: just the stock fan?
Aug 15, 2015 4:34 PM - Sims Reaper: ya, just the stock fan
Aug 15, 2015 4:34 PM - Mike Glass: I like the one big clamp really stiff
Aug 15, 2015 4:36 PM - Mike Kelly: mg didn't you make a sharpie mount?
Aug 15, 2015 4:41 PM - Mike Glass: for sharpie pens?
    Aug 15, 2015 4:43 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah
    Aug 15, 2015 4:43 PM - Mike Glass: yea a dual one
Aug 15, 2015 4:44 PM - Mike Glass: works ok, but found a nicer one that uses the edge of the marker should work better
Aug 15, 2015 4:45 PM - Mike Kelly: i'm just trying to think of how to test this thing
Aug 15, 2015 4:45 PM - Mike Glass: oh you mean for the cnc..lol not the robo
Aug 15, 2015 4:45 PM - Mike Glass: it was for the original handpiece mount.
Aug 15, 2015 4:46 PM - Mike Kelly: i have a pair of those printed
Aug 15, 2015 4:51 PM - Mike Glass: do you want my pen cartridge holder and mount insert.
    Aug 15, 2015 5:18 PM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Aug 15, 2015 5:18 PM - jbigler1986: Top is just sitting on it. Need to add the supports for it still
Aug 15, 2015 5:19 PM - jbigler1986: First time ever building anything from scratch with wood
Aug 15, 2015 5:47 PM - Mike Glass: nice jb, looks good.
Aug 15, 2015 5:48 PM - Mike Glass: nice to have tools to build stuff like that.
    Aug 15, 2015 6:22 PM - jbigler1986: That it is
    Aug 15, 2015 6:29 PM - jbigler1986: Proud of it so far

Aug 15, 2015 9:30 PM - Blake Benefield: With plywood tops you can actually dress them out really nice with a router. Just measure the thickness of the layers and use a bit just a tad smaller. then you set the router up to skip the top layer but cut the 2nd.. skip the 3rd, but cut the 4th etc until you've cut every other layer out.
Aug 15, 2015 9:31 PM - Blake Benefield: then you just run a thincut bit or a slight angle through the table saw and stain. Makes them look more decorative and less plywoodish
    Aug 15, 2015 9:47 PM - jbigler1986: Its not plywood. I didnt want plywood
    Aug 15, 2015 9:47 PM - jbigler1986: Maybe it is. Hell idk.
Aug 15, 2015 9:48 PM - jbigler1986: It was like $17 for a 2x4 sheet. Will need to look to see what it is
Aug 15, 2015 9:50 PM - Blake Benefield: That looks a lot like plywood man. I dunno though. Maybe it's just the pic. There's lots of different types of plywood though that vary in cost. I was just looking at the edge. I also don't know its intended purpose. If it's just a garage piece I wouldn't worry about it.
Aug 15, 2015 9:50 PM - Mike Glass: its ply of something
Aug 15, 2015 9:52 PM - jbigler1986: Its just going un the garage as a workbench
    Aug 15, 2015 9:53 PM - jbigler1986: I would have spend more on a different top otherwise
Aug 15, 2015 9:59 PM - Blake Benefield: I like plywood tops, that router trick makes them look pretty nice
    Aug 15, 2015 10:00 PM - jbigler1986: I will end up staining it probably
    Aug 15, 2015 10:00 PM - jbigler1986: Who knows. Its a learning experience
    Aug 15, 2015 10:04 PM - Blake Benefield: lol
Aug 15, 2015 10:05 PM - Blake Benefield: my tops need redone in my garage
Aug 15, 2015 10:05 PM - Blake Benefield: I've pretty much delaminated everyone of them in one spot or another using torches, hammering on them, or spilling some chemical
Aug 16, 2015 4:39 AM - Bill Monroe: good morning
    Aug 16, 2015 5:28 AM - jbigler1986: Morning
Aug 16, 2015 5:28 AM - Bill Monroe: Morning Justin
Aug 16, 2015 5:32 AM - jbigler1986: How is it in cali this morning
Aug 16, 2015 5:32 AM - Bill Monroe: 70 degrees.. gunna be hot.. you?
Aug 16, 2015 6:09 AM - jbigler1986: Its gonna be hot and humid here
Aug 16, 2015 6:22 AM - Bill Monroe: my weather station is showing rain is coming.. that'll be interesting
    Aug 16, 2015 6:28 AM - Mike Glass: Morning
    Aug 16, 2015 6:37 AM - Bill Monroe: MG
Aug 16, 2015 6:39 AM - Mike Glass: trying to find a way to put a wrench on 3/4 conduit other than vise grips to turn it. not sure If I should just print a nut and glue it on not sure what else there is.
Aug 16, 2015 6:40 AM - Bill Monroe: why turn it?
Aug 16, 2015 6:41 AM - Mike Glass: its on a screw for adjustment
    Aug 16, 2015 6:41 AM - Bill Monroe: ah
Aug 16, 2015 6:46 AM - daniel871: Question about Y-offsets in firmware for the dual extruder setup: I thought I'd put in 28mm for the offset off of my measurements, but checking the firmware I flashed it was at 18mm. The test target is off 10mm--the different filaments need to be 10mm closer together. Do I change it to 28mm like I measured or 8mm? The "they need to be closer together" bit is screwing with my head this morning and I'm drinking some coffee to try and fix it.
Aug 16, 2015 6:46 AM - daniel871: Thought I'd ask here though in case the coffee is of no help.
Aug 16, 2015 6:48 AM - Bill Monroe: I cant see how your tips could only be 8mm apart
Aug 16, 2015 6:48 AM - daniel871: Keep in mind I'm only halfway awake right now.
Aug 16, 2015 6:49 AM - Bill Monroe: put in the 28.. what you're doing is just telling the slicer to offset the secondary tip so it will end up in the same spot as the primary.. go do the 28
    Aug 16, 2015 6:49 AM - daniel871: I'm going to reflash with 28mm and try again since that's what I actually measured.
Aug 16, 2015 6:49 AM - Bill Monroe: atta boy!
Aug 16, 2015 6:49 AM - daniel871: It looks like the X is off a little bit too, but I'll figure that out after the Y lines up.
Aug 16, 2015 6:50 AM - daniel871: (kind of hard to verify with 10mm between the pieces that are supposed to mate up.
Aug 16, 2015 6:50 AM - Bill Monroe: that's the way to do it
    Aug 16, 2015 6:50 AM - daniel871: Thanks, Bill.
Aug 16, 2015 6:51 AM - Bill Monroe: eh,, you already knew what to do :)
Aug 16, 2015 6:58 AM - jbigler1986: Trial and error. Best way to learn

Aug 16, 2015 7:00 AM - Bill Monroe: mount for my bosch to my old CNC router
    Aug 16, 2015 7:04 AM - jbigler1986: Nice
Aug 16, 2015 7:05 AM - Bill Monroe: thanks... dense infill, took almost 9 hours for the base
    Aug 16, 2015 7:37 AM - Mike Glass: 9 hours. holy hell
Aug 16, 2015 7:38 AM - Bill Monroe: no biggie.. i slept through it :)
    Aug 16, 2015 7:38 AM - Mike Glass: I did mine at 70% infill
    Aug 16, 2015 7:38 AM - Bill Monroe: <--25
Aug 16, 2015 7:41 AM - Mike Glass: why did it take so long then.
Aug 16, 2015 7:42 AM - Bill Monroe: speed I guess.. optimized for this material
Aug 16, 2015 7:43 AM - Mike Glass: awe XT crap
Aug 16, 2015 7:44 AM - Bill Monroe: Makerbot True Blue PLA
Aug 16, 2015 7:44 AM - Bill Monroe: I would have used XT if I had any

    Aug 16, 2015 8:20 AM - jim3Dbot: MG, Put a 3/4" compression emt fittin' on it, if u hav 1 available...
    Aug 16, 2015 8:20 AM - jim3Dbot: straight emt compression fittin'
Aug 16, 2015 8:29 AM - Mike Glass: hmm not sure I have one
Aug 16, 2015 8:31 AM - Mike Glass: would that work in the middle of a piece of conduit?
Aug 16, 2015 8:31 AM - jim3Dbot: It will grab all the around, & hex hex end for wrench....but need one in your warehouse 1st....
Aug 16, 2015 8:31 AM - jim3Dbot: Oh probably not, it will stop an 1" or so from end...
Aug 16, 2015 8:32 AM - donhuevo: small pipe wrench would do as well but may leave some teeth marks
Aug 16, 2015 8:33 AM - daniel871: Stupid Laptop won't recognize arduino drivers, keeps saying board not connected at com1 even though the printer LCD lights up off the laptop connection. going to have to lug my pic out to the shop.
Aug 16, 2015 8:33 AM - Mike Glass: yea I dont want to mar it up, gotta look purdy
Aug 16, 2015 8:34 AM - jim3Dbot: if pipe was a little extra long, you could drill hole all the thru , tee it with a plillips, then cut off boogered end...
Aug 16, 2015 8:34 AM - donhuevo: that strap wrench would be the ticket then
    Aug 16, 2015 8:34 AM - jim3Dbot: strap..yes
Aug 16, 2015 8:34 AM - Mike Glass: to big to get in the space though
    Aug 16, 2015 8:35 AM - jim3Dbot: cluster fuck
    Aug 16, 2015 8:35 AM - daniel871: Yes
Aug 16, 2015 8:35 AM - donhuevo: how is that possible if you can get vise grips on it?
Aug 16, 2015 8:35 AM - donhuevo: is this to adjust the legs?
    Aug 16, 2015 8:36 AM - Mike Glass: yep
Aug 16, 2015 8:36 AM - donhuevo: print your own to suit and use some scrap gt2
Aug 16, 2015 8:36 AM - Mike Glass: I have pieces printing out right now like thumb screws
    Aug 16, 2015 8:36 AM - Mike Glass: GT2?
Aug 16, 2015 8:37 AM - donhuevo: toothed belt that moves almost everything in our little world
    Aug 16, 2015 8:37 AM - Mike Glass: [IMG]
Aug 16, 2015 8:38 AM - donhuevo: are you gonna glue it on?
    Aug 16, 2015 8:38 AM - donhuevo: grub screws?
Aug 16, 2015 8:39 AM - Mike Glass: yea if that dont hold then screw it
Aug 16, 2015 8:42 AM - Mike Glass: with 4 perimeters it should work either way.
    Aug 16, 2015 8:42 AM - donhuevo: eh
    Aug 16, 2015 8:42 AM - jim3Dbot: drill both pipe & new piece, pin it...? can't really visualize...just shootin'
Aug 16, 2015 8:43 AM - Mike Glass: in the conduit there is a turnbuckle
Aug 16, 2015 8:43 AM - donhuevo: or build a jig that will neatly press a hex into the tube
Aug 16, 2015 8:43 AM - donhuevo: kind of like how muffler shops can build to suit
Aug 16, 2015 8:43 AM - Mike Glass: and then a threaded rod in side the turnbuckle for adjustment
    Aug 16, 2015 8:44 AM - jim3Dbot: Oh, the hidden turnbuckle trick.........
Aug 16, 2015 8:44 AM - Mike Glass: yea that was my first thought don
Aug 16, 2015 8:44 AM - Mike Glass: but then it wold all get out of wack im sure
Aug 16, 2015 8:45 AM - Mike Glass: got to be something has access to also
Aug 16, 2015 8:45 AM - donhuevo: no reason why you can't play with some scrap
Aug 16, 2015 8:45 AM - Mike Glass: that everybody has access too
    Aug 16, 2015 8:45 AM - donhuevo: ah
    Aug 16, 2015 8:46 AM - donhuevo: now I see where you're headed
    Aug 16, 2015 8:46 AM - Mike Glass: make a mini wrench with GT2?

Aug 16, 2015 8:46 AM - Mike Glass: THanks Don, let me know when it's done..lol
Aug 16, 2015 8:47 AM - donhuevo: my gut is telling me teeth toward the object needing turned
Aug 16, 2015 8:47 AM - donhuevo: yep... go wait in the car. I'll be right out
Aug 16, 2015 8:50 AM - Mike Glass: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:422382 something like this may work with the belt glued on.
    Aug 16, 2015 8:53 AM - donhuevo: it could
    Aug 16, 2015 8:54 AM - jim3Dbot: how 'bout a rubber jar opener & an adj wrench.......
Aug 16, 2015 8:55 AM - donhuevo: you could add some rubber splicing tape to the teeth of your small pipe wrench too
Aug 16, 2015 8:56 AM - donhuevo: or glue the gt2 onto them
Aug 16, 2015 8:56 AM - donhuevo: lots of options
    Aug 16, 2015 8:56 AM - jim3Dbot: heavy piece of heatshrink.........
    Aug 16, 2015 8:57 AM - jim3Dbot: condom on a wrench

Aug 16, 2015 8:58 AM - Mike Glass: I like the small strap wrench Idea
    Aug 16, 2015 8:59 AM - jim3Dbot: #1 solution
Aug 16, 2015 8:59 AM - Mike Glass: to big, needs to be small. only have 1 inch of exposed pipe
    Aug 16, 2015 8:59 AM - donhuevo: it's jaws can't accomodate anything more than 3/4"
    Aug 16, 2015 8:59 AM - donhuevo: that's a tiny wrench right there
Aug 16, 2015 9:01 AM - Mike Glass: ugg, just printed these out and forget to adjust the z hieght back to normal.. Reprint
    Aug 16, 2015 9:01 AM - jim3Dbot: 3/4" pipe capacity works for 3/4" emt pipe
Aug 16, 2015 9:01 AM - Mike Glass: but no room for rubber belt on both jaws I bet
    Aug 16, 2015 9:02 AM - jim3Dbot: thats soootrue
Aug 16, 2015 9:03 AM - donhuevo: grind the teeth off and use rubber splicing tape
    Aug 16, 2015 9:03 AM - donhuevo: boom
    Aug 16, 2015 9:04 AM - jim3Dbot: how 'bout a 1" stainless steel hose clamp..snug down & wrench against screw...
Aug 16, 2015 9:04 AM - donhuevo: how often is someone really going to need to level this?
Aug 16, 2015 9:04 AM - Mike Glass: has to be purdy
    Aug 16, 2015 9:05 AM - jim3Dbot: tidy desk is tidy work...
Aug 16, 2015 9:05 AM - donhuevo: and how much torque do you suppose would really need applied
Aug 16, 2015 9:06 AM - Mike Glass: not much really
Aug 16, 2015 9:07 AM - donhuevo: the teeth only really dig in when you have to put the arm to it
Aug 16, 2015 9:07 AM - Mike Glass: if the printed parts will work I can put a wrench if I cant by hand
Aug 16, 2015 9:08 AM - donhuevo: I suspect you'll be able to work it by hand
    Aug 16, 2015 9:08 AM - jbigler1986: Hola fellas

Aug 16, 2015 9:14 AM - donhuevo: that's from an old dunkin' commercial.
Aug 16, 2015 9:15 AM - donhuevo: equates to 'time to go to work'
    Aug 16, 2015 9:15 AM - donhuevo:
    Aug 16, 2015 9:30 AM - daniel871: I won't tell you how those donut holes were made.

Aug 16, 2015 12:15 PM - Blake Benefield: first print that was longer than an hour
Aug 16, 2015 12:16 PM - Blake Benefield: MG said the strings are from filament being too hot but it was only running at 180 I thought... although the code may have kicked it to 210. I need to look and see
    Aug 16, 2015 12:17 PM - Blake Benefield: [IMG]
Aug 16, 2015 12:17 PM - Blake Benefield: theres one with flash to show more
Aug 16, 2015 12:18 PM - donhuevo: you might need to bump up your retraction a hair
Aug 16, 2015 12:27 PM - Printed Solid: that's not terrible though. a little work with an emery board and it will be beautiful.
Aug 16, 2015 12:29 PM - Printed Solid: Also, I find turning up acceleration retraction to be one of the most effective tools rather than increasing speed or distance.
    Aug 16, 2015 12:29 PM - Bill Monroe: ^
    Aug 16, 2015 12:37 PM - jbigler1986: Agreed

    Aug 16, 2015 3:12 PM - Kevin Nguyen: mk8 or mk10?
    Aug 16, 2015 3:19 PM - Mike Glass: V6 e3d
    Aug 16, 2015 3:19 PM - Mike Kelly: ^
Aug 16, 2015 3:20 PM - Kevin Nguyen: mike is going to spend the next week telling me that
Aug 16, 2015 3:20 PM - Mike Kelly: the mk8/10 extruders i believe have a thread length less than hexagons use
Aug 16, 2015 3:21 PM - Mike Kelly: it'll work just not the best option
Aug 16, 2015 3:24 PM - Mike Glass: hey Mike
Aug 16, 2015 3:25 PM - Mike Glass: How big are you making your cnc?
    Aug 16, 2015 3:27 PM - Mike Kelly: hey
    Aug 16, 2015 3:27 PM - Mike Kelly: uhh
    Aug 16, 2015 3:27 PM - Mike Kelly: i have a table i'm gonna use
Aug 16, 2015 3:28 PM - Mike Kelly: i'm trying to decide on the final dimensions
    Aug 16, 2015 3:28 PM - Mike Kelly: though i'm kinda thinking just 24x24
    Aug 16, 2015 3:29 PM - Mike Glass: I ended up with 26.5 x 18.5 with the router mount.
    Aug 16, 2015 3:29 PM - Mike Kelly: haha
    Aug 16, 2015 3:29 PM - Mike Glass: it was 19.5 x 15.5 before
    Aug 16, 2015 3:29 PM - Mike Kelly: nice
Aug 16, 2015 3:30 PM - Mike Glass: new feet installed its looks sweet now.
Aug 16, 2015 3:30 PM - Mike Glass: and micro adusting is working
    Aug 16, 2015 3:31 PM - Mike Glass: a full turn of 5/16 thread is 1.5mm correct?
Aug 16, 2015 3:36 PM - Mike Glass: now just need to install Y axis belts for the new length and its ready to go.
    Aug 16, 2015 3:42 PM - Mike Kelly: 1.411111
Aug 16, 2015 3:43 PM - Mike Glass: ha I was close right
Aug 16, 2015 3:43 PM - Mike Kelly: what parts did you use to make the feet
    Aug 16, 2015 3:43 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah
Aug 16, 2015 3:43 PM - Mike Kelly: close enough for government work :)
Aug 16, 2015 3:43 PM - Mike Glass: I made a video of the assembly and parts I printed for it, it uses a turnbuckle.
Aug 16, 2015 3:43 PM - Printed Solid: man, I can't believe big box broke 250 to close!
Aug 16, 2015 3:44 PM - Printed Solid: Hi guys.
    Aug 16, 2015 3:44 PM - Bill Monroe: Matt
    Aug 16, 2015 3:44 PM - Mike Glass: Hi
Aug 16, 2015 3:44 PM - Mike Kelly: right printed? they killed it
Aug 16, 2015 3:45 PM - Mike Glass: Liquid tape rocks btw.
Aug 16, 2015 3:45 PM - Printed Solid: what is liquid tape?
Aug 16, 2015 3:45 PM - Mike Glass: its like liquid black tape
Aug 16, 2015 3:46 PM - Mike Glass: used it on my router mount and the cnc feet for non slip.

Aug 16, 2015 3:47 PM - Printed Solid: ah. ok.
Aug 16, 2015 3:47 PM - Mike Glass: use instead of heat shrink also.
Aug 16, 2015 3:47 PM - Printed Solid: Yeah Mike, that sounds incredibly useful.
Aug 16, 2015 3:48 PM - Mike Glass: drys really fast too
Aug 16, 2015 3:48 PM - Mike Kelly: [IMG] things like this are why i love 3d printing
Aug 16, 2015 3:49 PM - Printed Solid: Do any of you guys have a quick youtube clip that you like as an intro to 3d printing for people who have not used it at all before?
Aug 16, 2015 3:49 PM - Mike Glass: comes in white, green, black or red
Aug 16, 2015 4:04 PM - TxKent: Howdy folks. I'm excited to get my E3D v6 from Printed Solid! I'm also going to do the dual fan mod with the fan mounts Marquis (Novice Expert) created.
Aug 16, 2015 4:21 PM - Mike Glass: why that one?
Aug 16, 2015 4:21 PM - Blake Benefield: Where do you get the other colors MG? You can buy the black in the boating section at your local walmart or academy but ove not seen colors
Aug 16, 2015 4:23 PM - Blake Benefield: increase retraction speed huh
Aug 16, 2015 4:27 PM - Mike Glass: its just what the can says for the other colors.
Aug 16, 2015 4:32 PM - Blake Benefield: Oh ok
    Aug 16, 2015 4:33 PM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Aug 16, 2015 4:33 PM - jbigler1986: Just need to sand it and stain it now
Aug 16, 2015 5:11 PM - daniel871: I'm sad I didn't have the money to invest in the Big Box for the fully loaded dual kit.
Aug 16, 2015 5:11 PM - daniel871: On the plus side, calibrating is done for the dual Robo and I'm printing the dual color frog in ABS overnight tonight.
Aug 16, 2015 5:12 PM - daniel871: As a more extended calibration test since it has a lot of curves in it.
Aug 16, 2015 5:13 PM - daniel871: Also ABfnS because my Robo seems to hate PLA but love all the traditionally more difficult filaments for some reason.
Aug 16, 2015 5:37 PM - Mike Kelly: the r1.7 keeps jamming with this ABS, wtf
Aug 16, 2015 5:48 PM - Mike Glass: season the hotend
    Aug 16, 2015 5:49 PM - jbigler1986: yeah that's odd. pla i haven't had any issues
    Aug 16, 2015 6:12 PM - Bill Monroe: back
    Aug 16, 2015 6:22 PM - Mike Glass: front
Aug 16, 2015 6:57 PM - Mike Kelly: haha mike i know right
Aug 16, 2015 6:57 PM - Mike Kelly: i tried adding an oiler in line and that jammed so i ran some cleaning filament throug
Aug 16, 2015 6:57 PM - Mike Kelly: gonna try again
Aug 16, 2015 6:57 PM - Mike Kelly: *fingers crossed*
Aug 16, 2015 7:22 PM - Mike Kelly: well it completed a different part, let's see how it does on the one that kept failing
    Aug 16, 2015 7:47 PM - Mike Kelly: agh
    Aug 16, 2015 7:47 PM - Mike Kelly: i don't get it!
Aug 16, 2015 7:49 PM - daniel871: Slice it again with different settings?
Aug 16, 2015 7:50 PM - daniel871: Also, PEI and the required tape will be in Tuesday. Hope it lives up to tge hype.
Aug 16, 2015 7:53 PM - Mike Kelly: it does seem to have a bit of a high reputation
Aug 16, 2015 7:53 PM - daniel871: I need more vacation days. Finally got things dialed in on the target model and now the frog is printing and I'd literally rather watch it finish printing in the morning than go to work.
Aug 16, 2015 7:55 PM - daniel871: Yeah, they talk up PEI like it runs circles around the Zebra Plate
    Aug 16, 2015 7:55 PM - PeterkSharma: whats PEI?
Aug 16, 2015 7:55 PM - daniel871: Which isnt a high bar in my experience.
Aug 16, 2015 7:55 PM - Bill Monroe: Pie Eaters, Inc
    Aug 16, 2015 7:55 PM - daniel871: Ultem 1000 sheet.
    Aug 16, 2015 7:55 PM - PeterkSharma: yummmm
Aug 16, 2015 7:56 PM - PeterkSharma: trying to get something to stick to the buildplate?
Aug 16, 2015 7:56 PM - Bill Monroe: ya.. apple with melted cheddar on top
    Aug 16, 2015 7:56 PM - daniel871: Yeah.
Aug 16, 2015 7:56 PM - daniel871: Similar to the zebra plate, but more durable. Also permanent.
Aug 16, 2015 7:57 PM - Bill Monroe: hairspray on hot glass
Aug 16, 2015 7:57 PM - Mike Kelly: PEI is similar to kapton
    Aug 16, 2015 7:57 PM - Bill Monroe: << old school
    Aug 16, 2015 7:57 PM - PeterkSharma: what material?
Aug 16, 2015 7:57 PM - PeterkSharma: yeah, i think i have pei tape. I literally have it all...
    Aug 16, 2015 7:57 PM - Mike Kelly: http://www.amazon.com/Polyetherimide-Off-White-Standard-Tolerance-PEI0113/dp/B00CPRDDLY
Aug 16, 2015 7:58 PM - daniel871: One glass bed cracking apart with hairspray is enough for me Bill.
Aug 16, 2015 7:58 PM - PeterkSharma: have to tried glue stick?
    Aug 16, 2015 7:58 PM - PeterkSharma: you8
    Aug 16, 2015 7:58 PM - PeterkSharma: you**
Aug 16, 2015 7:58 PM - Bill Monroe: hairspray cracked your glass.... there's more to that story
Aug 16, 2015 7:58 PM - daniel871: PEI is touted as a way to avoid playing with any more adhesives.
Aug 16, 2015 7:59 PM - daniel871: That's what Jerry basically claimed when I asked why a basic print pulls glass up with it.
Aug 16, 2015 8:00 PM - Mike Kelly: i think they don't use the best annealing process on the glass robo buys and so they develop microfractures which causes pitting
Aug 16, 2015 8:00 PM - daniel871: I think it was a bad sheet, but Robo is trying to avoid warranting them.
    Aug 16, 2015 8:00 PM - Bill Monroe: probably
Aug 16, 2015 8:00 PM - Mike Kelly: i agree with you daniel
Aug 16, 2015 8:00 PM - Mike Kelly: but what can you do
Aug 16, 2015 8:01 PM - Bill Monroe: 8 mos of nearly continuous use.. mine is pristine as new
Aug 16, 2015 8:01 PM - Mike Kelly: now i have a bit of paranoia about removing my prints
Aug 16, 2015 8:01 PM - Mike Kelly: but i don't on the replicator 2 because that glass i know is good
Aug 16, 2015 8:01 PM - daniel871: For now I'm covering it with tape then putting hairspray/whatever on.
Aug 16, 2015 8:02 PM - Mike Kelly: man i really wanna know who's going to be selling the mini height sensor switch
Aug 16, 2015 8:02 PM - PeterkSharma: I think the best think for adheasion is MK's cover. Just need to get the operating temp at a point where the prints cool slower but you dont cook your extruder
Aug 16, 2015 8:02 PM - Bill Monroe: i've got neoceram on my ABS machine.. it' been rock stable
Aug 16, 2015 8:02 PM - Mike Kelly: daniel has my enclosure :)
Aug 16, 2015 8:03 PM - PeterkSharma: Thats my next upgrade
Aug 16, 2015 8:03 PM - daniel871: Yeah, the enclosure is great other than being in the way when changing bed tape. :p
Aug 16, 2015 8:04 PM - daniel871: Temporary workaround is a set of clamps holding them open
Aug 16, 2015 8:05 PM - daniel871: I've basically used all of Mike's designs and E3D's hardware for my upgrades (& steppers from Amazon).
    Aug 16, 2015 8:06 PM - Mike Kelly: man i really like sw 2015
    Aug 16, 2015 8:06 PM - Mike Kelly: *blush*
Aug 16, 2015 8:06 PM - PeterkSharma: what is the advantage up stepper upgrades?
Aug 16, 2015 8:07 PM - daniel871: I needed two geared steppers for my dual bowden setup.
Aug 16, 2015 8:07 PM - daniel871: Using hercustruders instead of Wade extruders.
Aug 16, 2015 8:07 PM - PeterkSharma: how are you liking it?
    Aug 16, 2015 8:07 PM - PeterkSharma: i'm on a wade v6 set up
Aug 16, 2015 8:08 PM - PeterkSharma: I have the volcano but I want to design an extruder for it
Aug 16, 2015 8:08 PM - daniel871: I'll be able to tell you tomorrow evening after work. Big two color frog model printing now.
Aug 16, 2015 8:09 PM - daniel871: I couldn't get the Wade to push softer filaments thru the volcano fast enough.
    Aug 16, 2015 8:09 PM - daniel871: It was basically same speeds/lower temps.
Aug 16, 2015 8:10 PM - daniel871: Not fast enough for the larger nozzles any way.
Aug 16, 2015 8:45 PM - PeterkSharma: I'm having trouble with soft filament with wade extruder
Aug 16, 2015 8:46 PM - Mike Kelly: need a liner to the nozzle
    Aug 16, 2015 8:47 PM - PeterkSharma: yeah i have a v6
Aug 16, 2015 8:47 PM - PeterkSharma: with the tube installed
Aug 16, 2015 8:48 PM - Mike Kelly: huh interesting
Aug 16, 2015 8:49 PM - PeterkSharma: i think i have to mess with the temp and speed maybe
Aug 16, 2015 8:49 PM - PeterkSharma: i followed the instructions on the ninjaflex site, but no love
Aug 16, 2015 8:50 PM - Mike Kelly: what have you tried
    Aug 16, 2015 8:50 PM - PeterkSharma: 20mm/s
Aug 16, 2015 8:50 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah i would go down to like 15 or 10
Aug 16, 2015 8:51 PM - Mike Kelly: i would only print bridge at 20mm/s and that's more rigid than ninjaflex
Aug 16, 2015 8:51 PM - PeterkSharma: i have some i want to try out
Aug 16, 2015 8:51 PM - PeterkSharma: of the bridge

    Aug 16, 2015 8:51 PM - PeterkSharma: k, I'll work on slowing it down
Aug 16, 2015 8:53 PM - Mike Kelly: learning a filament is a lot like learning an instrument, start slow and build up
Aug 16, 2015 8:57 PM - PeterkSharma: yeah im still mostly doing pla
Aug 16, 2015 8:57 PM - PeterkSharma: I have a few specialties but I'm still getting the machine dialed in

Aug 16, 2015 9:01 PM - Blake Benefield: I was just cussing ABS to MG
Aug 16, 2015 9:02 PM - Blake Benefield: swapped from blue painters to masking tape and now its fine
Aug 16, 2015 9:02 PM - Blake Benefield: MG says I need to buy some green frog tape
Aug 16, 2015 9:31 PM - D3DStudios: Man I want to give a shout to Y'all, learning my printer is a breeze thanks to y'all
    Aug 16, 2015 9:34 PM - PeterkSharma:

Aug 17, 2015 3:00 AM - Bill Monroe: good morning
    Aug 17, 2015 3:40 AM - jbigler1986: Morning
Aug 17, 2015 3:46 AM - Bill Monroe: Hi Justin
    Aug 17, 2015 3:53 AM - Bill Monroe: <-- hour 15 of print
    Aug 17, 2015 4:24 AM - jbigler1986: How long total?
Aug 17, 2015 4:40 AM - Bill Monroe: not sure.. 15.5 hours now and it says it's 75%, but we all know how inaccurate the numbers are
    Aug 17, 2015 5:00 AM - jbigler1986: what are you printing
Aug 17, 2015 5:03 AM - Bill Monroe: holder for router on my older CNC machine
Aug 17, 2015 5:07 AM - daniel871: Bah. Temp fall error on the robo last night.
Aug 17, 2015 5:08 AM - Bill Monroe: did it reset after power bounce?
    Aug 17, 2015 5:09 AM - daniel871: Nah. It's on a UPS.
Aug 17, 2015 5:09 AM - Bill Monroe: ok.. let me try it another way.. Did you bounce the power to see if it would reset?
Aug 17, 2015 5:10 AM - daniel871: Yeah. Readouts are fine. It just cooled off overnight fast enough to trigger the temp fall error and stop the print.
Aug 17, 2015 5:11 AM - daniel871: A cold rain came thru and the shop chilled in a pretty big hurry, apparently.
Aug 17, 2015 5:11 AM - Bill Monroe: ive seen several occasions where users are chasing temp fails thinking it's loose connections or low abient temps, that ruende out to be merely over-agressive cooling fans
Aug 17, 2015 5:12 AM - JeffTheMess: good morning robonauts happy Monday
Aug 17, 2015 5:12 AM - daniel871: The only fans running are the hotend fans.
Aug 17, 2015 5:12 AM - Bill Monroe: your heater should have no problem keeping the tip at temp even down to freezing
    Aug 17, 2015 5:12 AM - daniel871: Was printing ABS.
Aug 17, 2015 5:14 AM - Bill Monroe: mine sat in the garage and ran nicely while it was snowing
Aug 17, 2015 5:14 AM - Bill Monroe: sudden changes though, they can cause havoc
Aug 17, 2015 5:14 AM - daniel871: Was it already snowing when you started?
    Aug 17, 2015 5:14 AM - Bill Monroe: no
Aug 17, 2015 5:15 AM - Bill Monroe: happened overnight.. it's not common in joshua tree but it does happen
Aug 17, 2015 5:15 AM - Bill Monroe: my wife loved it :)
    Aug 17, 2015 5:16 AM - Bill Monroe: [IMG]
Aug 17, 2015 5:17 AM - daniel871: It dropped 20 degrees almost immediately after sundown last night as the rain came in. Felt good but should have checked on the printer.
Aug 17, 2015 5:17 AM - Bill Monroe: who was asking yesterday about long print times?
    Aug 17, 2015 5:18 AM - daniel871: Peter?
Aug 17, 2015 5:19 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, night be
Aug 17, 2015 5:19 AM - Bill Monroe: might be
Aug 17, 2015 5:19 AM - Bill Monroe: i'm just over 16 hours now on this one
Aug 17, 2015 5:20 AM - JeffTheMess: what you printing?
Aug 17, 2015 5:20 AM - Bill Monroe: router mount for one of my CNC machines
Aug 17, 2015 5:21 AM - JeffTheMess: jeez how many do you have
Aug 17, 2015 5:22 AM - Bill Monroe: 3.. but this one I made maybe 12 years ago and has been in storgage
Aug 17, 2015 5:23 AM - Bill Monroe: it's overbuilt, uses 80V Servo motors, Galil controller
    Aug 17, 2015 5:23 AM - JeffTheMess: nice
Aug 17, 2015 5:23 AM - Bill Monroe: very robust, strong.. very precise
Aug 17, 2015 5:24 AM - Bill Monroe: but, cost a fortune :) 4K at the time just for the Galil.
Aug 17, 2015 5:33 AM - Bill Monroe: i think this print will probably go another 2 hours
Aug 17, 2015 5:35 AM - JeffTheMess: not to bad
    Aug 17, 2015 5:35 AM - Bill Monroe: it's looking fantastic
    Aug 17, 2015 5:36 AM - JeffTheMess: live?
Aug 17, 2015 5:36 AM - Bill Monroe: in another 50 layers the slices drop down dramatically so it should pick up the pace
Aug 17, 2015 5:36 AM - Bill Monroe: naw.. cam mount broke and I've not made a replacement yet
    Aug 17, 2015 5:37 AM - JeffTheMess: sucks
Aug 17, 2015 5:38 AM - Bill Monroe: ya. doing inurance paperwork for one of the planes right now.. when it's done I'll start designing a new mount
Aug 17, 2015 6:11 AM - daniel871: Good grief, got one of those things from Social Security that tell you how much you've got in right now and what ages you can retire for various levels of benefits.
    Aug 17, 2015 6:11 AM - daniel871: I have to work until I'm 85 to get full benefits now?
    Aug 17, 2015 6:11 AM - daniel871: Why fn bother?
Aug 17, 2015 6:11 AM - JeffTheMess: buy some gold?
Aug 17, 2015 6:12 AM - daniel871: Problem there is selling it/not getting robbed when trying to sell it.
    Aug 17, 2015 6:12 AM - Bill Monroe: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/bills-lab rigged up a temp stand
Aug 17, 2015 6:15 AM - JeffTheMess: nice setup bill!
    Aug 17, 2015 6:15 AM - JeffTheMess: what kind a camera is that...sooo clear!
    Aug 17, 2015 6:15 AM - Bill Monroe: thanks
Aug 17, 2015 6:16 AM - Bill Monroe: it's an IPEVO Ziggi.. intended for use to show documents to large groups.. I repurposed it :)
    Aug 17, 2015 6:17 AM - JeffTheMess: indeed
    Aug 17, 2015 6:18 AM - Bill Monroe: I've got 362 days to early retirement :)
    Aug 17, 2015 6:19 AM - JeffTheMess: "early" retirement
Aug 17, 2015 6:19 AM - Bill Monroe: ya.. 2.0 wants me to take it.. i'm pushing for 5 more years
Aug 17, 2015 6:20 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah...jeez im jealous of that setup
    Aug 17, 2015 6:21 AM - Bill Monroe: its just a robo :)
Aug 17, 2015 6:21 AM - JeffTheMess: the camera and text lol
Aug 17, 2015 6:21 AM - Bill Monroe: oh! ahaha
    Aug 17, 2015 6:22 AM - Bill Monroe: here, I'll add something
    Aug 17, 2015 6:24 AM - JeffTheMess: thats a nice touch
Aug 17, 2015 6:42 AM - daniel871: LOL, someone is angry this morning. Heard "If I had a gun with two bullets and I was in a room with Hitler, Bin Laden and (sales guy) I'd shoot (sales guy) twice!"
    Aug 17, 2015 6:42 AM - Bill Monroe: :)
    Aug 17, 2015 6:44 AM - daniel871: Well crap. [IMG]
Aug 17, 2015 6:45 AM - Bill Monroe: better wear your iron maiden today
    Aug 17, 2015 6:46 AM - JeffTheMess: hahaa
Aug 17, 2015 6:46 AM - daniel871: The Iron Maiden would kill me though.
Aug 17, 2015 6:46 AM - Bill Monroe: well, you make your choices :)
Aug 17, 2015 6:47 AM - daniel871: Kind of hard to see the spikes, but this is an Iron Maiden. [IMG]
Aug 17, 2015 6:48 AM - daniel871: They'd jab a few inches into the victim and they'd basically twitch themselves to death on the spikes once it was shut.
Aug 17, 2015 6:49 AM - Bill Monroe: appropriate name.. thats what I do whenever heavy metal is played
    Aug 17, 2015 6:49 AM - daniel871: [IMG]
    Aug 17, 2015 6:50 AM - daniel871: How does that happen?
    Aug 17, 2015 6:50 AM - Bill Monroe: Colorado schools :)
Aug 17, 2015 6:50 AM - daniel871: Write it, look at it, "Yep, looks good" hang it on a stop sign.
Aug 17, 2015 7:25 AM - PeterkSharma: I was asking about the log print times
    Aug 17, 2015 7:26 AM - Bill Monroe: ah
    Aug 17, 2015 7:26 AM - Bill Monroe: well, I'm at 18+ hours now
Aug 17, 2015 7:26 AM - PeterkSharma: how the print going?
    Aug 17, 2015 7:27 AM - Bill Monroe: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/bills-lab
Aug 17, 2015 7:27 AM - PeterkSharma: I finally figured out last night i think my hot end is about 10 degrees cool hahaha, i think that is helping with my long prints
Aug 17, 2015 7:27 AM - Bill Monroe: looks fine to me
Aug 17, 2015 7:28 AM - JeffTheMess: (well something looks fine alright)
    Aug 17, 2015 7:28 AM - Bill Monroe: :)
    Aug 17, 2015 7:28 AM - Bill Monroe: 2.0
Aug 17, 2015 7:30 AM - PeterkSharma: thats way cool
Aug 17, 2015 7:32 AM - PeterkSharma: man that looks awesome!

Aug 17, 2015 7:32 AM - PeterkSharma: what settings are you printing with?
    Aug 17, 2015 7:32 AM - Bill Monroe: thanks
    Aug 17, 2015 7:32 AM - PeterkSharma: that pla?
Aug 17, 2015 7:32 AM - Bill Monroe: let me pull it up
Aug 17, 2015 7:33 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, makerbot brand "true blue" PLA
    Aug 17, 2015 7:33 AM - Bill Monroe: 200/50 70mm defualt speed
Aug 17, 2015 7:34 AM - PeterkSharma: hmm. looks good man
    Aug 17, 2015 7:34 AM - PeterkSharma: what nozzle?
Aug 17, 2015 7:34 AM - Bill Monroe: but I run a slightly higher accelration so while the quality skyrockets, the time extends a bit
    Aug 17, 2015 7:34 AM - Bill Monroe: .4 totally stock E3D setup
    Aug 17, 2015 7:35 AM - JeffTheMess: ugh tomorrow i get mine!
    Aug 17, 2015 7:35 AM - Bill Monroe: sahWEET
Aug 17, 2015 7:36 AM - Bill Monroe: this is 50% honeycomb infill too.. that extends the time, but makes it strong
Aug 17, 2015 7:37 AM - PeterkSharma: what do you mean with the acceleration and print quality?
Aug 17, 2015 7:37 AM - PeterkSharma: i havnt heard anything about that before
Aug 17, 2015 7:37 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, most people blow it off cuz they dont understand it
    Aug 17, 2015 7:38 AM - daniel871: Firmware adjustment?
Aug 17, 2015 7:38 AM - Bill Monroe: i have it set so it doesnt jerk to a start and stop..
    Aug 17, 2015 7:38 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, it's a firmware setting
Aug 17, 2015 7:39 AM - daniel871: Wouldn't that be a lower acceleration, or is that a separate setting from the actual acceleration bit?
Aug 17, 2015 7:39 AM - Bill Monroe: hang on, I'll lookup the number I'm using
Aug 17, 2015 7:39 AM - daniel871: I've got my default at 500 and max at 3000 right now for any given axis and that smoothed things out a great deal.
    Aug 17, 2015 7:40 AM - PeterkSharma: I run my at 700
Aug 17, 2015 7:41 AM - daniel871: One of the Robo firmwares had things way up at 10000 for max and 8000 for default and it was vibrating like crazy on models with fine features.
    Aug 17, 2015 7:41 AM - Bill Monroe: 500 default, 800 max for X & Y
Aug 17, 2015 7:41 AM - daniel871: Well, I matched one of them any way.
    Aug 17, 2015 7:41 AM - Bill Monroe: <hi5>
    Aug 17, 2015 7:42 AM - daniel871: :p
Aug 17, 2015 7:42 AM - donhuevo: I just got my seriously likeable trophy this morning. Suppose I should be happier than I am
    Aug 17, 2015 7:42 AM - daniel871: Trophy?
Aug 17, 2015 7:42 AM - PeterkSharma: anyone have a printer that uses 3.0mm fillament?
    Aug 17, 2015 7:42 AM - daniel871: Nope.
    Aug 17, 2015 7:43 AM - Bill Monroe: I do, but not a robo
    Aug 17, 2015 7:43 AM - PeterkSharma: someone gave me a 1 kilo spool
Aug 17, 2015 7:44 AM - daniel871: Theoretically all you have to do is change the hotend and the settings in your slicer though.
Aug 17, 2015 7:44 AM - PeterkSharma: all yours if you pay for shipping
Aug 17, 2015 7:44 AM - Bill Monroe: use it for whacking weeds
    Aug 17, 2015 7:44 AM - donhuevo: [IMG]
Aug 17, 2015 7:44 AM - daniel871: Makes for one hell of a weedeater string if it is something other than PLA.
    Aug 17, 2015 7:44 AM - PeterkSharma: lol, Not a bad though
Aug 17, 2015 7:44 AM - PeterkSharma: it is pla
Aug 17, 2015 7:45 AM - Bill Monroe: mine shoots PC
    Aug 17, 2015 7:45 AM - daniel871: Hm.
    Aug 17, 2015 7:45 AM - PeterkSharma: pc?
    Aug 17, 2015 7:45 AM - PeterkSharma: polycarbonate?
    Aug 17, 2015 7:45 AM - daniel871: Polycarbonate?
    Aug 17, 2015 7:45 AM - Bill Monroe: ya
    Aug 17, 2015 7:45 AM - Mike Kelly: morning
    Aug 17, 2015 7:45 AM - Bill Monroe: the support is 3mm
Aug 17, 2015 7:45 AM - daniel871: Hey, MK. What all would be needed to print 3mm filament again? Just a 3mm hotend and changing the slicer?
    Aug 17, 2015 7:46 AM - Mike Kelly: yup
Aug 17, 2015 7:46 AM - daniel871: Someone gave Peter 3mm filament and he has no real way to use it. :p
Aug 17, 2015 7:46 AM - PeterkSharma: yeah, I figure if someone has a printer they could use it
Aug 17, 2015 7:49 AM - PeterkSharma: so bill you sped up x&y acceleration by 300 correct?
Aug 17, 2015 7:49 AM - Mike Kelly: get one of those pen style extruders
Aug 17, 2015 7:51 AM - Bill Monroe: actually, I cant recall what it was originally, I changed it within days of getting the machine. I'm sure some trivia nerd will know
Aug 17, 2015 7:51 AM - Bill Monroe: i might have a file of the original
Aug 17, 2015 7:52 AM - daniel871: I was about to suggest getting one, but I'm not sure how you confirm the filament the pen takes. Two of the listings on Amazon don't say.
Aug 17, 2015 7:52 AM - daniel871: And it's too much effort to look at them all.
    Aug 17, 2015 7:52 AM - daniel871: :p
Aug 17, 2015 7:54 AM - PeterkSharma: do you have the article you got the info from?
    Aug 17, 2015 7:54 AM - Bill Monroe: me?
Aug 17, 2015 7:54 AM - daniel871: Man, I'm aggravated at the temp fall error. That means the shop has some nasty draft openings in it somewhere and I can't reliably do long prints until the building is insulated.
Aug 17, 2015 7:55 AM - daniel871: A sudden 20 degree shift as night falls and a storm comes in isn't an every day thing, but still.
Aug 17, 2015 7:55 AM - Bill Monroe: your robo needs a blankie
Aug 17, 2015 7:56 AM - daniel871: Cover the outside with foam except for the bottom and figure out a way to restrict airflow in the top slot without restricting the bowden tubes.
Aug 17, 2015 7:57 AM - Bill Monroe: maybe a thermostatically controlled heat lamp would help
    Aug 17, 2015 7:57 AM - Bill Monroe: or, a heated blanket
Aug 17, 2015 7:57 AM - Bill Monroe: if they still have those
Aug 17, 2015 7:58 AM - daniel871: They do, but they have all kinds of warnings about running them longer than 4 hours.
Aug 17, 2015 7:58 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, i think they have auto shutoffs now too
Aug 17, 2015 7:59 AM - daniel871: Looking for the heatlamp option on Amazon now.
Aug 17, 2015 7:59 AM - Bill Monroe: i have an really old heating pad for my Cockatoo.. hooked to an Omron controller.. it only works cuz it was made before they put shutoffs on them
Aug 17, 2015 8:15 AM - donhuevo: mk's enclosure would do it too. The bed heat would build up inside there
Aug 17, 2015 8:15 AM - daniel871: Think I'll get some 1/16" foam adhesive weather stripping and put it between the enclosure and the opening on the Robo to see how much that helps. It isn't a perfect fit.
Aug 17, 2015 8:16 AM - daniel871: The vertical bits line up, but the curves and angles are off slightly.
Aug 17, 2015 8:16 AM - daniel871: We're talking enough to see the gap, but not huge or anything.
Aug 17, 2015 8:16 AM - daniel871: Definitely enough for a draft to get through though.
Aug 17, 2015 8:16 AM - donhuevo: then that's not the problem. my guess is that at least one of your thermistor crimps is loose
Aug 17, 2015 8:17 AM - daniel871: Is that something that would work loose after printing just fine for the past couple weeks? Only thing that has changed has been the weather (last couple weeks have been scorchers all the time).
Aug 17, 2015 8:19 AM - donhuevo: I run topless with an air conditioner nearby
Aug 17, 2015 8:20 AM - daniel871: I'll check the thermistor screws when I get home, but they're soldered this time on the wiring and then it's straight wires all the way to the board.
Aug 17, 2015 8:21 AM - donhuevo: get out a magnifying glass too and make sure the little legs right at the glass bead can't make contact w/ each other
    Aug 17, 2015 8:23 AM - jim3Dbot: Happy Belated Bill.....
Aug 17, 2015 8:24 AM - donhuevo: daniel, have you made any changes to your acceleration settings in the firmware?
    Aug 17, 2015 8:26 AM - daniel871: Yeah, dropped them down to 500 default and 3000 max.
    Aug 17, 2015 8:26 AM - daniel871: Smooth running.
Aug 17, 2015 8:26 AM - donhuevo: that's good. direction changes sound better. not as violent
    Aug 17, 2015 8:27 AM - daniel871: [IMG]
Aug 17, 2015 8:27 AM - donhuevo: to me anyway, the factory settings seemed like it wouldn't take long to shake things loose
Aug 17, 2015 8:28 AM - daniel871: Yeah, the Wade extruder would visibly rock at the factory settings.
Aug 17, 2015 8:28 AM - daniel871: Perfect ambush on the part of that cat.
Aug 17, 2015 8:54 AM - jbigler1986: holy hell. just now starting actual work

    Aug 17, 2015 10:04 AM - Mike Kelly: nope
Aug 17, 2015 10:04 AM - Mike Kelly: too bad that site doesn't offer a hardware only kit like martin does
    Aug 17, 2015 10:06 AM - donhuevo: I didn't exactly need another geared stepper
Aug 17, 2015 10:06 AM - jbigler1986: did you get it for the drive gears mostly?
Aug 17, 2015 10:07 AM - donhuevo: yep. I'm just thinking ahead to 200+ speeds
    Aug 17, 2015 10:07 AM - jbigler1986: http://printrbot.com/shop/gear-head-extruder-v0-01/
Aug 17, 2015 10:08 AM - jbigler1986: same concept as the bondtech. not sure how good the teeth are on it though
Aug 17, 2015 10:09 AM - donhuevo: no adjustment on them though
    Aug 17, 2015 10:10 AM - jbigler1986: design a different body for it
    Aug 17, 2015 10:10 AM - donhuevo: too late

Aug 17, 2015 10:12 AM - donhuevo: we'll keep that on your to-do list for now
Aug 17, 2015 10:12 AM - jbigler1986: we will see hoe mine does once i get it back. didn't really get to test it much
    Aug 17, 2015 10:13 AM - jbigler1986: how*
    Aug 17, 2015 10:24 AM - Bill Monroe: back

Aug 17, 2015 10:27 AM - Mike Kelly: my problem with the printrbot gear head is I don't think they spent enough time designing the filament grooves
Aug 17, 2015 10:31 AM - Mike Glass: you should build it MK
Aug 17, 2015 10:33 AM - Mike Kelly: mg do you think he designed that vacuum shroud
Aug 17, 2015 10:33 AM - Mike Glass: I am going to have to reprint most of my pieces, cracks in most parts after rebuilding it.
    Aug 17, 2015 10:34 AM - donhuevo: ouch
Aug 17, 2015 10:34 AM - Mike Glass: yea probaly designed it himself.
Aug 17, 2015 10:34 AM - Mike Glass: maybe pet or something better.
Aug 17, 2015 10:34 AM - Mike Kelly: only piece i cracked so far was one of the bearing mounts on the middle z pieces
Aug 17, 2015 10:34 AM - Mike Glass: those are they only ones that are holding up so far
Aug 17, 2015 10:35 AM - Mike Glass: I have lots of epoxy thats holding it together now.
Aug 17, 2015 10:36 AM - Mike Glass: Think I wll redesign the blocks, the screws that hold everything is where most of the failures are.
    Aug 17, 2015 10:37 AM - Mike Kelly: right
Aug 17, 2015 10:37 AM - Mike Glass: that or cast them in aluminium
Aug 17, 2015 10:37 AM - Mike Kelly: i wish he'd release the source files
    Aug 17, 2015 10:38 AM - Mike Kelly: that's my plan
Aug 17, 2015 10:39 AM - Mike Glass: yea fat chance of that happening, he wont even release the tool holder file.
Aug 17, 2015 10:40 AM - Mike Kelly: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:618391 something like this might be worth pursuing
Aug 17, 2015 10:40 AM - Mike Kelly: people who don't release the source files just make me want to clone their design and release it
Aug 17, 2015 10:40 AM - Mike Glass: im breaking in my new conduit bars, think I have a bad bearing somewhere.
Aug 17, 2015 10:41 AM - Mike Kelly: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:231219 this is interesting as well
Aug 17, 2015 10:42 AM - Mike Kelly: man this cnc is a ton of work
    Aug 17, 2015 10:43 AM - Mike Glass: 28 hours I had in assembly
Aug 17, 2015 10:43 AM - Mike Glass: just the parts
Aug 17, 2015 10:43 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah i'm realizing my table will need some work to
Aug 17, 2015 10:44 AM - Mike Kelly: i need to get your feet design and make that
    Aug 17, 2015 10:44 AM - donhuevo: mk likes mg's feet
    Aug 17, 2015 10:44 AM - jbigler1986: it's his fetish
Aug 17, 2015 10:45 AM - Mike Kelly: what can i say, i like microadjustment
Aug 17, 2015 10:46 AM - Mike Glass: I need to get my video's done

Aug 17, 2015 10:50 AM - Mike Kelly: MG didn't you make like a box enclosure for your electical
Aug 17, 2015 10:50 AM - Mike Glass: yea, its was a pita though. too dam small
Aug 17, 2015 10:51 AM - Mike Kelly: i'm debating what i want to do for that
Aug 17, 2015 10:52 AM - Mike Glass: I put a fan in it and also the box surrounding it with the power supply.
Aug 17, 2015 10:53 AM - Mike Glass: my cnc now excepts credit cards...haha
Aug 17, 2015 10:55 AM - donhuevo: mk, I need to source the robo bed magnets

Aug 17, 2015 11:23 AM - Mike Kelly: still struggling to understand the mechanism
Aug 17, 2015 11:25 AM - Mike Kelly: mg, just buy the motor can: http://servicenet.dewalt.com/Products/Detail/DWP611#
Aug 17, 2015 11:40 AM - daniel871: They're going to shut this generator down at some point. [IMG]
    Aug 17, 2015 11:51 AM - Mike Kelly: where's the DMCA notice

    Aug 17, 2015 11:57 AM - Mike Glass: I really hate flies.
Aug 17, 2015 12:00 PM - daniel871: Well, I've got the two-color frog to print. Is there a collection of actually good things to print in two colors somewhere?
    Aug 17, 2015 12:00 PM - daniel871: Really don't care about Makerbot logos.
    Aug 17, 2015 12:01 PM - Mike Kelly: i like the cone
Aug 17, 2015 12:01 PM - Mike Kelly: you should also print left shark to really test yourself
    Aug 17, 2015 12:01 PM - Mike Kelly: also daniel let's see a picture
    Aug 17, 2015 12:02 PM - daniel871: This one? http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:667127
    Aug 17, 2015 12:05 PM - Mike Kelly: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:681064
    Aug 17, 2015 12:05 PM - Mike Kelly: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:767823 i also like this one but it's less dual-y
Aug 17, 2015 12:16 PM - daniel871: Still, two different materials for the dragon body vs. stool and eyes.
Aug 17, 2015 12:18 PM - daniel871: I'll post pics once I get some prints completed. The frog failed last night due to a temp fall error according to the LCD readout, but the readouts were reading fine and cycling power cleared it.
Aug 17, 2015 12:19 PM - daniel871: I'll be checking to make sure nothing worked loose, then re-trying it.
Aug 17, 2015 12:20 PM - daniel871: The feet it had partly done looked like everything was going well though.
    Aug 17, 2015 12:26 PM - toy: http://imgur.com/u2CPOA5
Aug 17, 2015 12:27 PM - toy: lol my first gif.... it looks slow but it was going 185mm/sec
Aug 17, 2015 12:29 PM - Mike Kelly: think it's a bad idea to integrate the vacuum holder on the carriage? http://i.imgur.com/hBCcgsg.png
Aug 17, 2015 12:29 PM - Mike Kelly: or should i have it be modular and clip on
Aug 17, 2015 12:30 PM - daniel871: As long as nothing on it would be in the way of tool setups/changes, why not have it part of it?
Aug 17, 2015 12:30 PM - Mike Kelly: that was kinda my thought process
Aug 17, 2015 12:31 PM - Mike Kelly: then i'd use something like this: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:536091
    Aug 17, 2015 12:36 PM - daniel871: Hm.
Aug 17, 2015 12:37 PM - daniel871: May print that myself for the little desktop CNC we have.
Aug 17, 2015 12:38 PM - Mike Glass: your gonna change your motor already?
    Aug 17, 2015 12:41 PM - daniel871: It's one of these: [IMG]
Aug 17, 2015 12:41 PM - daniel871: Not an actual photo of the one my mom has though.
    Aug 17, 2015 12:42 PM - daniel871: But close enough.
Aug 17, 2015 12:45 PM - daniel871: Also no, not changing the motor.
Aug 17, 2015 12:46 PM - daniel871: Thing is probably locked up from sitting on a shelf for over a year anyway, lol.
Aug 17, 2015 12:55 PM - Mike Kelly: sad fate
Aug 17, 2015 1:04 PM - daniel871: It was doomed to start with since it was all cheap chinese crap.
    Aug 17, 2015 1:08 PM - Mike Kelly: ah
    Aug 17, 2015 1:11 PM - daniel871: Similar to this one. http://www.amazon.com/CNCShop-Engra...UTF8&qid=1439842442&sr=8-16&keywords=3040+CNC
    Aug 17, 2015 1:16 PM - Mike Kelly: neato
Aug 17, 2015 1:19 PM - jbigler1986: toy can you send some movements back and forth? curious to see how it stops and starts
    Aug 17, 2015 1:29 PM - jbigler1986: this is nice http://www.amazon.com/Zen-Toolworks...=UTF8&qid=1439843521&sr=8-3&keywords=mini+cnc
    Aug 17, 2015 1:29 PM - jbigler1986: nevermind. it's not a complete kit
Aug 17, 2015 1:29 PM - Mike Kelly: jb did you buy the hictop?
Aug 17, 2015 1:30 PM - jbigler1986: no. that why i started working with wood
Aug 17, 2015 1:30 PM - daniel871: Is there still a thread for getting the Arduino software and firmware and flashing/updating things?
Aug 17, 2015 1:30 PM - daniel871: Someone on the FB group is having trouble
Aug 17, 2015 1:30 PM - jbigler1986: hopefully the weekend of the 28th i will be getting it
Aug 17, 2015 1:31 PM - jbigler1986: MK did you see my work table? I literally had 0 experience with working with wood besides helping build a deck years ago
Aug 17, 2015 1:38 PM - daniel871: Thinking about building one of these at some point after I get done making toys with the dual bowden. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:902826
Aug 17, 2015 1:39 PM - jbigler1986: I saw that a few weeks ago. It's pretty cool and wouldn't cost much. Laser would be the most expensive part
    Aug 17, 2015 1:40 PM - daniel871: Yep.
Aug 17, 2015 1:40 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah i liked it jb
Aug 17, 2015 1:40 PM - Mike Kelly: reminds me of my first bench. but i used instructions for that
    Aug 17, 2015 1:41 PM - jbigler1986: It's not perfect
Aug 17, 2015 1:42 PM - jbigler1986: i should have got a solid wood top. oh well. on the next one
Aug 17, 2015 1:43 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah i just bought the one from harbor freight
    Aug 17, 2015 1:43 PM - Mike Kelly: it's ok
Aug 17, 2015 1:43 PM - Mike Kelly: i'll build my next one whenever i have more time and money
Aug 17, 2015 1:44 PM - jbigler1986: it only took like 3 hours of actual build time
    Aug 17, 2015 1:44 PM - Mike Kelly: nice
Aug 17, 2015 1:45 PM - jbigler1986: gonna sand it tonight and stain the top
Aug 17, 2015 1:45 PM - Mike Kelly: i'm still debating if i should build a new table for the CNC or just use my old one
Aug 17, 2015 1:45 PM - daniel871: Did you see the Delta-based "Metal Printer" that basically used wire-feed and arc welding to build something?
    Aug 17, 2015 1:45 PM - Mike Kelly: i have not
Aug 17, 2015 1:46 PM - Mike Kelly: wouldn't that just be a mig welder
    Aug 17, 2015 1:46 PM - daniel871: Yeah.
    Aug 17, 2015 1:46 PM - jbigler1986: i did. the one that is printing a bridge?
    Aug 17, 2015 1:46 PM - daniel871: No.
    Aug 17, 2015 1:46 PM - daniel871: Here's one. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:329498
    Aug 17, 2015 1:46 PM - jbigler1986: oh
Aug 17, 2015 1:47 PM - jbigler1986: that's bright as fuck just watching the video
Aug 17, 2015 1:47 PM - daniel871: The third one has a green tinted shield up.
    Aug 17, 2015 1:47 PM - daniel871: Third video
    Aug 17, 2015 1:49 PM - jbigler1986:
Aug 17, 2015 1:51 PM - Mike Kelly: what if you had the nozzle height be set by a solenoid
Aug 17, 2015 1:52 PM - Mike Kelly: so it would pop down to print
    Aug 17, 2015 1:52 PM - jbigler1986: for?
Aug 17, 2015 1:55 PM - Mike Kelly: for duals
Aug 17, 2015 1:55 PM - Mike Kelly: so many problems are caused by oozing and clipping, trying to mitigate that without hampering options
    Aug 17, 2015 1:56 PM - jbigler1986: how would that work
Aug 17, 2015 1:58 PM - Mike Kelly: the nozzle would be on some kind of slide so when you switch nozzles the solenoid deactivates on one and triggers on the other
    Aug 17, 2015 2:03 PM - jbigler1986: awesome http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:957943
Aug 17, 2015 2:04 PM - Mike Kelly: that would take so long to make
    Aug 17, 2015 2:04 PM - jbigler1986: yeah. pretty cool though
    Aug 17, 2015 2:07 PM - jbigler1986:
Aug 17, 2015 2:10 PM - Mike Kelly: i'm really going to need to buy a laser soon
    Aug 17, 2015 2:11 PM - jbigler1986: that's a powerful laser
Aug 17, 2015 2:17 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah he really needs shielding
Aug 17, 2015 2:24 PM - donhuevo: mike, do you remember that one carriage that would swing one nozzle into position while swinging the other up over a shield?
    Aug 17, 2015 2:27 PM - Mike Glass: D.O.N.
Aug 17, 2015 2:28 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah i remember that one don
Aug 17, 2015 2:29 PM - Mike Glass: what bit should I use to tram the bed?
    Aug 17, 2015 2:32 PM - jbigler1986: Screw you traffic. I should have worked 15 minutes longer
Aug 17, 2015 2:32 PM - Mike Glass: leave earlier
    Aug 17, 2015 2:34 PM - jbigler1986: Sucks even then. Unless i leave 30 minutes early
    Aug 17, 2015 2:34 PM - Mike Glass: yea I bet, I leave usually at 4:20
    Aug 17, 2015 2:42 PM - Mike Kelly:
    Aug 17, 2015 2:44 PM - donhuevo: interesting idea
Aug 17, 2015 2:45 PM - Mike Glass: that is crazy

    Aug 17, 2015 3:17 PM - Mike Glass: no way 20%
    Aug 17, 2015 3:17 PM - Mike Glass: he's on crack
Aug 17, 2015 3:19 PM - toy: thats what im sayin... im by no means an expert on laser cutting but even 5degree seems like a lot for a laser
Aug 17, 2015 3:21 PM - Mike Glass: its wood right?
Aug 17, 2015 3:22 PM - toy: yeah... i think i figured out what is happening
Aug 17, 2015 3:22 PM - toy: https://www.pololu.com/docs/0J24/4 read down to issues to consider
Aug 17, 2015 3:24 PM - toy: now on very nice waterjets the head will constantly move/change angle slightly to remove the taper as it cuts,
Aug 17, 2015 3:24 PM - toy: so they must use a very cheap laser with poor focusing that leaves a bad taper as it goes
    Aug 17, 2015 3:26 PM - Mike Glass: I doubt it is 20%
Aug 17, 2015 3:27 PM - toy: yeah he needs his eyes checked lol
Aug 17, 2015 3:28 PM - toy: or they cut it with a high powered magnify glass =)
Aug 17, 2015 3:30 PM - toy: http://nasa3d.arc.nasa.gov/detail/mars-rover-curiosity i linked this last night but not sure if anyone saw it
Aug 17, 2015 3:31 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah when are you gonna make it
Aug 17, 2015 3:32 PM - toy: ill do it tonight
Aug 17, 2015 3:35 PM - toy: http://nasa3d.arc.nasa.gov/detail/wrench-mis pretty cool that this is the same print they did in space
    Aug 17, 2015 3:39 PM - Mike Kelly: yup
Aug 17, 2015 3:39 PM - Mike Kelly: not sure what 3 oz-in would be good for
Aug 17, 2015 3:40 PM - Mike Kelly: other than testing and verification of performance
Aug 17, 2015 3:42 PM - Mike Glass: I printed the wrench, it didnt rotate but works.
Aug 17, 2015 3:44 PM - Mike Glass: ok 2nd try to cut t-slot board for the cnc.
Aug 17, 2015 3:44 PM - Mike Glass: I think I was drunk when I cut the last one..lol its horrible
    Aug 17, 2015 3:47 PM - Mike Kelly: hahaha
Aug 17, 2015 3:47 PM - Mike Kelly: i was trying to think if it was possible to cut that with the cn
    Aug 17, 2015 3:47 PM - Mike Kelly: cnc*
Aug 17, 2015 3:47 PM - Mike Glass: its a pretty big bit though
    Aug 17, 2015 3:48 PM - Mike Kelly: right
Aug 17, 2015 3:48 PM - Mike Glass: suppose if you didnt go to deep, do like 10 passes
Aug 17, 2015 3:48 PM - Mike Kelly: but i bet if you do it in a few passes it wouldn't be too bad
Aug 17, 2015 3:48 PM - Mike Glass: but I do this outside, it makes a huge mess.
Aug 17, 2015 3:49 PM - Mike Glass: wifey paints her furniture in there, although I told her she shouldnt.
Aug 17, 2015 3:49 PM - Mike Kelly: you need a vacuum attachment
    Aug 17, 2015 3:49 PM - Mike Kelly: awesome
Aug 17, 2015 3:49 PM - Mike Glass: yea I know, I have this big jet not even hooked to anything yet.
Aug 17, 2015 3:51 PM - Mike Glass: The air filter system I have works really well also.
    Aug 17, 2015 3:51 PM - Mike Kelly: slacker
Aug 17, 2015 3:52 PM - Mike Glass: you should get one for your shop.
Aug 17, 2015 3:52 PM - Mike Kelly: i have that small dust collector
Aug 17, 2015 3:52 PM - Mike Glass: No, a air filtration system
    Aug 17, 2015 3:53 PM - Mike Kelly: ah
Aug 17, 2015 3:53 PM - Mike Kelly: right now i need to figure out how to keep it a bearable temperature in there
Aug 17, 2015 3:53 PM - Mike Glass: I lucked out and amazon has a sell and picked one up for $249, they sell for 379
Aug 17, 2015 3:56 PM - Mike Glass: it act as a fan also you can feel it cirulating the air, enven in this size of shope
Aug 17, 2015 3:57 PM - Mike Kelly: http://imgur.com/gallery/EoDoi these are the best
Aug 17, 2015 3:57 PM - Mike Kelly: got a link to it?
Aug 17, 2015 3:58 PM - TxKent: OMG. Today was Robo day. I got my replacement Y bracket, my cleaning filament, AND my E3Dv6.
    Aug 17, 2015 3:58 PM - TxKent: I just ordered the E3D on Saturday.

    Aug 17, 2015 4:02 PM - jbigler1986: You will love the e3d
Aug 17, 2015 4:02 PM - Mike Kelly: http://i.imgur.com/XlaXcsE.jpg check out what i salvaged from work
Aug 17, 2015 4:02 PM - Mike Kelly: so much damn wood
Aug 17, 2015 4:02 PM - TxKent: reading up - I printed the small Curiosity Rover yesterday.
Aug 17, 2015 4:02 PM - Mike Kelly: awesome kent, lets see it
Aug 17, 2015 4:03 PM - TxKent: I haven't cleaned the support off yet and assembled it.
Aug 17, 2015 4:03 PM - TxKent: Finished printing just before bed.
Aug 17, 2015 4:04 PM - Mike Glass: cool I wanna see it
Aug 17, 2015 4:04 PM - TxKent: Ok, let me work on it - be back in a few.
Aug 17, 2015 4:05 PM - Mike Glass: I need to put together the huge predator mask i printed this weekend.
    Aug 17, 2015 4:05 PM - jbigler1986: Free wood. Nice
    Aug 17, 2015 4:06 PM - Mike Glass: its 5 pieces.
Aug 17, 2015 4:06 PM - jbigler1986: No wonder why your chair is taking 6 months. You keep printing other stuff. :)
Aug 17, 2015 4:07 PM - Mike Glass: im just deciding on what colors I want to do in the middle part, I have the entire outer shell printed
Aug 17, 2015 4:14 PM - Mike Glass: I hate cutting particle board, the shit goes everywhere. then a gust of wind comes up and blows it in the shop..
    Aug 17, 2015 4:22 PM - TxKent: Hope you're wearing a mask.
Aug 17, 2015 4:24 PM - Mike Glass: probably should be
    Aug 17, 2015 4:26 PM - jbigler1986: Nah.
Aug 17, 2015 4:30 PM - TxKent: How do you guys clean out holes - some of the parts won't seat fully.
Aug 17, 2015 4:33 PM - TxKent: Guess I need a new dremel with some carving bits
    Aug 17, 2015 4:35 PM - jbigler1986: What slicer are you using
    Aug 17, 2015 4:35 PM - TxKent: I'd rather not say. :p Matterslicer.
Aug 17, 2015 4:36 PM - TxKent: Haven't ever been able to get Cura to get a good first layer.
Aug 17, 2015 4:48 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah thats why. Their support material is not good. Very hard to remove
Aug 17, 2015 4:50 PM - TxKent: I figure the training wheels are coming off this week...
Aug 17, 2015 5:24 PM - JeffTheMess: hey guys whats the nominal resistance of the e3d thermistor?
Aug 17, 2015 5:37 PM - JeffTheMess: can I use the same thermistor that is in the hex?
Aug 17, 2015 5:37 PM - nonmindo: ok so, not sure if its some recent changes I made to firmware(Marquis' suggested acceleration and leveling sequence speed changes) or the new eSun filament i got, which came in a nice box, vac sealed with desiccant... but my print came out looking like this... is it over extrusion or aire/water in the filament? https://www.dropbox.com/s/o4cr97crsj9u6x0/20150817_172241_HDR.jpg?dl=0
    Aug 17, 2015 5:42 PM - jbigler1986: @jeff, you can
Aug 17, 2015 5:43 PM - JeffTheMess: this thermistor is scary small
Aug 17, 2015 5:43 PM - jbigler1986: Just be careful when you bend it the 90 degrees
Aug 17, 2015 5:44 PM - jbigler1986: Once you put the screw in to hold it, it wont budge
Aug 17, 2015 5:44 PM - jbigler1986: The stock thermistor is very fragile
Aug 17, 2015 5:45 PM - TxKent: Ok, who wanted to see the Curiosity Rover (small) [IMG]
    Aug 17, 2015 5:46 PM - TxKent: [IMG]
    Aug 17, 2015 5:46 PM - jbigler1986: Looks good
Aug 17, 2015 5:47 PM - TxKent: With flash that shows more boogers and cleanup to be done: [IMG]
Aug 17, 2015 5:47 PM - Mike Glass: haha awesome kent
Aug 17, 2015 5:48 PM - TxKent: Told my 3 year old "Don't touch it. The glue hasn't dried yet." He tried to smack it out of my hand.
Aug 17, 2015 5:49 PM - JeffTheMess: fiberglass insulator isnt going good
Aug 17, 2015 5:49 PM - TxKent: once I get the mods done, I think I'll print the big one.
    Aug 17, 2015 5:49 PM - jbigler1986: For what part jeff
    Aug 17, 2015 5:49 PM - jbigler1986: Heating element?
    Aug 17, 2015 5:51 PM - Mike Kelly: 100kohms at 25c

Aug 17, 2015 5:51 PM - Mike Kelly: the hexagon thermistor is too big to fit in the v6
Aug 17, 2015 5:53 PM - TxKent: It's not a screw type thermistor anyway, is it?
Aug 17, 2015 5:56 PM - JeffTheMess: yeah for the heating element
Aug 17, 2015 5:56 PM - JeffTheMess: im an idiot and forgot to order the screw type
Aug 17, 2015 5:57 PM - TxKent: I was lucky that Printed Solid was online when I was asking about it. He recommended that I get it.
Aug 17, 2015 5:58 PM - JeffTheMess: my insulator is getting all untangled
Aug 17, 2015 6:00 PM - jbigler1986: Its fine. Just put some electrical tape on it. It's not a big deal
Aug 17, 2015 6:01 PM - jbigler1986: I had the stud thermistor until i overheated it and melted the epoxy that holds it together
Aug 17, 2015 6:07 PM - JeffTheMess: yeah looks ok i guess, looks like the lead is touching th heating element
Aug 17, 2015 6:32 PM - nonmindo: wait, the screw in only has rating of 285c? I thought one of the points of getting the E3D was being able to print above like 300c for things like polycarbonate and Triton exotic filaments?
    Aug 17, 2015 6:53 PM - jbigler1986: Screw in is 260c
Aug 17, 2015 6:54 PM - jbigler1986: That it is. If you dont plan of printing with that kind of material the stud thermistor is great
    Aug 17, 2015 6:54 PM - nonmindo: ahhh i see ok gotcha
Aug 17, 2015 6:56 PM - nonmindo: I havent gotten an E3D yet, so thats why I was asking, I'll probably just use the standard thermistor that comes with the E3Dv6, I doubt I'll ever print those exotic filaments but knowing that the option is there is cool.....kicking around the idea of getting a cyclops tho, not sure yet, havent looked into setting up a second extruder and stuff
Aug 17, 2015 6:57 PM - nonmindo: right now im just trying to figure out why my prints are printing the way they are... i think it might be over extrusion or bad filament
Aug 17, 2015 6:57 PM - nonmindo: or perhaps some firmware settings i changed
Aug 17, 2015 7:04 PM - Mike Kelly: bad filament can be a huge cause
Aug 17, 2015 7:04 PM - Mike Kelly: try dehydrating it
    Aug 17, 2015 7:05 PM - nonmindo: https://www.dropbox.com/s/o4cr97crsj9u6x0/20150817_172241_HDR.jpg?dl=0
Aug 17, 2015 7:05 PM - nonmindo: thats what im getting
Aug 17, 2015 7:06 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah that definitely looksd like vapor
Aug 17, 2015 7:06 PM - nonmindo: I was worried about how the filament was packed
Aug 17, 2015 7:07 PM - nonmindo: it is eSun brand, they stuck the desiccant in the hub of the spool then vacuum sealed the whole thing up, and i dont think the desiccant was able to suck out vapor
    Aug 17, 2015 7:07 PM - Mike Kelly: that's common practice
Aug 17, 2015 7:08 PM - Mike Kelly: the print's not jittery at all is it?
Aug 17, 2015 7:08 PM - nonmindo: nah the layers all seemed to lay down pretty good otherwise
Aug 17, 2015 7:09 PM - Mike Kelly: PLA or ABS
Aug 17, 2015 7:09 PM - nonmindo: and my 20x20x10 test cube printed almost perfect in hatchbox black, and even the eSun when i printed the calibration cube printed fine
    Aug 17, 2015 7:09 PM - nonmindo: PLA
Aug 17, 2015 7:09 PM - Mike Kelly: what temps
    Aug 17, 2015 7:09 PM - nonmindo: 205c on hot end, 85c on bed
Aug 17, 2015 7:09 PM - nonmindo: brb a sec, at work lol
Aug 17, 2015 7:09 PM - Mike Kelly: i'd suggest throwing it in the oven on low for a bit
Aug 17, 2015 7:09 PM - Mike Glass: thats awful hot bed for pla
    Aug 17, 2015 7:15 PM - jbigler1986: Yeah it is
Aug 17, 2015 7:23 PM - nonmindo: ok sorry bout that, I'm back...I was running it at 80c and wasnt getting a nice solid first layer, upping it to 85 seemed to resolve the issue quite well
Aug 17, 2015 7:23 PM - nonmindo: I'm also teh n00bz so there might have been a better, and/or more proper way of fixing that issue
Aug 17, 2015 7:23 PM - nonmindo: what temp on the oven and how long?
Aug 17, 2015 7:24 PM - nonmindo: I also have a space saver vacuum bag and reusable desiccant cartridge, but im guessing that would take too long
    Aug 17, 2015 7:31 PM - jbigler1986: Lower z offset and lower bed temp
    Aug 17, 2015 7:32 PM - jbigler1986: I run the bed at 40c with PLA
    Aug 17, 2015 7:32 PM - jbigler1986: Use hairspray to help adhere
Aug 17, 2015 7:32 PM - nonmindo: if i lower the z offset any more it doesnt extrude, its currently at .7 if i go to .6 it doesnt extrude....i might try .65
Aug 17, 2015 7:33 PM - nonmindo: I'm also using hairspray, 40c that seems reallllly low, but then again, what do i know lol im just barely tweking MC's settings (i know..... MC....i know, really, i do....)
Aug 17, 2015 7:34 PM - nonmindo: I havent had much time to mess around with getting Cura setup....or octoprint....or....... printtopeer......
Aug 17, 2015 7:35 PM - nonmindo: as for heat treating the PLA, how long should I toss it in the oven for and what temp? like 10m at 100F?
Aug 17, 2015 7:40 PM - nonmindo: hmm just read 80c for a few hours, that sound right? eSun has their PLA rated at 190-220c extrusion temp
    Aug 17, 2015 7:41 PM - Bill Monroe: back
Aug 17, 2015 7:55 PM - Mike Kelly: usually the lowest setting for an oven is around 150F, that for like 3-4 hours should be good
Aug 17, 2015 7:56 PM - Mike Kelly: you really want to be like 50C
    Aug 17, 2015 8:12 PM - nonmindo: Thanks @Mike, I've also sent an e-mail to intservo/eSun about it
    Aug 17, 2015 8:19 PM - Mike Kelly: right
Aug 17, 2015 8:27 PM - nonmindo: I suspect I might end up having to do the same with their PETG when it comes in on wednesday, if so would you say the same temp/time in oven would be sufficient or would i need to up the temp a little for PETG?
Aug 17, 2015 8:29 PM - nonmindo: They talk up their product really well and have great support so I figured I would give eSun a chance, knowing that typically "you get what you pay for" when it comes to filament, and @ $18/2.2kg and amazon prime it was worth a gamble.... if the PETG comes and it's got the same thing, ill be going back to hatchbox
Aug 17, 2015 8:30 PM - Mike Kelly: i've used this prototype supply filament for a while now and really like it
Aug 17, 2015 8:30 PM - Mike Kelly: i think it's like higher end esun filament
Aug 17, 2015 8:30 PM - Mike Kelly: and that's the kind of petg i have
Aug 17, 2015 8:30 PM - Mike Kelly: i like it for the most part, doesn't seem to handle low infill well though
Aug 17, 2015 8:31 PM - Mike Kelly: 30% was about as low as it seemed to like
Aug 17, 2015 8:31 PM - nonmindo: hmm i almost always run with 15-25% infill.....
Aug 17, 2015 8:32 PM - nonmindo: is prototype supply a brand or are you talking about one of eSun's prototype filaments?
Aug 17, 2015 8:33 PM - nonmindo: nvm answered my own question
Aug 17, 2015 8:33 PM - Mike Kelly: i buy it from toybuilderlabs
Aug 17, 2015 8:36 PM - nonmindo: $30/roll is a little steep for me right now while learning and failing prints...though, i have only had a couple ACTUAL fails, the rest were stopped on first layer cause i could tell it would fail)...the eSun was like $18...but so was the hatchbox and everything i print in that comes out really good.....except it seems like the corners of things blow out a little
Aug 17, 2015 8:37 PM - nonmindo: when I'm printing the hatchbox this is what my first layers look like and the corners... (not my image, but almost identical result)

Aug 17, 2015 9:01 PM - pclabtech: ok... Buenos Noches
Aug 17, 2015 9:02 PM - nonmindo: ohh, well then, HI!!
    Aug 17, 2015 9:02 PM - pclabtech: I posted a troubleshooting topic, maybe I get a quicker answer here
Aug 17, 2015 9:03 PM - nonmindo: well I don't know how much help I can be, I'm fairly new to printing, but I'll give it a shot if i know whats going on
Aug 17, 2015 9:04 PM - pclabtech: My matter control said "UPDATE Available" so I did... now Slic3r fails as soon as I hit the print button, "Slicing error"
Aug 17, 2015 9:04 PM - pclabtech: I switched it to Cura Engine and it works just fine... sometimes though I like Slic3r
Aug 17, 2015 9:05 PM - nonmindo: Yea just went over and saw your post, I'm not versed well in other slicers yet, still only using MC for everything
Aug 17, 2015 9:05 PM - nonmindo: perhaps one of the Sr. members here will know whats up or someone will reply to your topic
Aug 17, 2015 9:06 PM - pclabtech: I am too... the default is Slic3r in MatterControl
    Aug 17, 2015 9:06 PM - pclabtech: Where's Mike when you need him :p
Aug 17, 2015 9:07 PM - pclabtech: I am one of the original first 25 to get a Robo from Kickstarter, I just didn't know how easy it was to break MC simply by upgrading it. That irks me
Aug 17, 2015 9:10 PM - nonmindo: i've been running using matterslice for the slicer setting in MC
    Aug 17, 2015 9:10 PM - pclabtech: ah
Aug 17, 2015 9:12 PM - nonmindo: latest version, haven't had any issues.... this week im going to setup my Rpi for either printtopeer or octoprint and also configure the actual Cura app to work with the printer as well
Aug 17, 2015 9:14 PM - pclabtech: I was using Repetier, but the Robo folks convinced me to use MatterControl last time I dropped in on them.
Aug 17, 2015 9:17 PM - nonmindo: I just wish i could enter values directly into MC rather than having to always modify preset and save the settings...for the items that are heat or speed related....
Aug 17, 2015 9:18 PM - pclabtech: Actually you can.
Aug 17, 2015 9:20 PM - pclabtech: During the printing, you can adjust the flow and motor draw speed
Aug 17, 2015 9:20 PM - nonmindo: yea during print, but if im changing filament or if i want to change the infill or certain things, you know the items that highlight red or yellow with the "edit preset" option
Aug 17, 2015 9:21 PM - pclabtech: you can also assign presets for your different filaments... I have one for wood that adjusts the temp to 185
Aug 17, 2015 9:21 PM - nonmindo: I dont like being REQ'd to create profiles
Aug 17, 2015 9:21 PM - nonmindo: i like the option, but dont like being req'ds
Aug 17, 2015 9:22 PM - pclabtech: Repetier has more control
Aug 17, 2015 9:22 PM - pclabtech: it's also a pain to set up because one mistake in a setting and you destroy your print job.
Aug 17, 2015 9:35 PM - nonmindo: yea ill play around with other slicers this weekend
    Aug 17, 2015 9:35 PM - pclabtech: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:972968
Aug 17, 2015 9:36 PM - pclabtech: I decided to put a miniture scaled down version of an 8 foot diameter table we built on Thingiverse
Aug 17, 2015 9:36 PM - nonmindo: ya i havent done any modeling yet either lol, currently running printer in room on media center pc while the office is cleaned out
Aug 17, 2015 11:07 PM - nonmindo: On the dimension of the print bed, I want to read 10x9x8 as XxYxZ.....but something tells me it could be YxXxZ.... (trying to setup a printer profile, its asking for the bed volume)
Aug 18, 2015 3:23 AM - Bill Monroe: good morning
    Aug 18, 2015 4:17 AM - daniel871: Morning.
Aug 18, 2015 4:17 AM - daniel871: So a report came out a few days ago with this table in it: [IMG]
Aug 18, 2015 4:18 AM - daniel871: Other than the bolded joke, I like how a lot of people are apparently putting their job on the same level as their marriage.
Aug 18, 2015 4:19 AM - daniel871: Or death of a spouse rather, with marriage ending thru divorce just slightly less terrible than that.
    Aug 18, 2015 4:19 AM - daniel871: Also I'd hate to learn what would warrant a -10.
    Aug 18, 2015 5:02 AM - jbigler1986: Morning
    Aug 18, 2015 5:03 AM - jbigler1986: that is a crap study
Aug 18, 2015 5:04 AM - jbigler1986: birth of first child was definitely a happy time
    Aug 18, 2015 5:04 AM - jbigler1986: so was 2nd child
    Aug 18, 2015 5:14 AM - JeffTheMess: morning roboneers
Aug 18, 2015 5:15 AM - JeffTheMess: gave up on that tiny thermistor gonna order the stud
    Aug 18, 2015 5:16 AM - jbigler1986: what? what were the issues?
    Aug 18, 2015 5:17 AM - JeffTheMess: my fingers :)
    Aug 18, 2015 5:18 AM - jbigler1986: couldn't get the screw in or what
Aug 18, 2015 5:18 AM - jim3Dbot: Hey, jeff...to your defense..a lo of years...assembling tiny stuff....the thermistor was a big pain in the ass.....keepin' it under the screw without breaking it.....
Aug 18, 2015 5:19 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah, plus I feel like it wasn't all the way in
Aug 18, 2015 5:20 AM - jbigler1986: just put it in the hole. bend it 90 degress. hold it there and screw in the screw
Aug 18, 2015 5:20 AM - jim3Dbot: was hard keepin the 90 degree bent leads from poppin' off''''
    Aug 18, 2015 5:20 AM - jbigler1986: did you watchs toms video?
    Aug 18, 2015 5:20 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah, I did....it wouldn't stay bent at all
    Aug 18, 2015 5:22 AM - jbigler1986: weird
Aug 18, 2015 5:24 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah i wanted the screw one anyway i just forgot to order it while I was there
Aug 18, 2015 5:24 AM - JeffTheMess: wow that was fast it has been shipped already
Aug 18, 2015 5:25 AM - jim3Dbot: you know what else is weird.....I installed the v6....wanted to chk actual tip temp with a IR Thermometer...could not get no where a match with set temp...painted tip black with marker..to prevent reflection..still bad readings...bed reads spot on.....weird...
Aug 18, 2015 5:26 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah that is wierd....hey as long as the plastic flows im ok
Aug 18, 2015 5:28 AM - jim3Dbot: while i'm on the soapbox......used the IR Thermo to record bed temp...you would be amazed...no shittin'......how fast the bed temp drops off as soon as you are off the heated pad section of the bed...its right now.....even tho your printing on it...
    Aug 18, 2015 5:28 AM - jim3Dbot: warped 8" prints cause of that...
Aug 18, 2015 5:29 AM - JeffTheMess: holy cow! that sucks i would hate that
Aug 18, 2015 5:31 AM - jim3Dbot: I'm not an alarmist on that subject but, I had to 45 angle my prints to stay on the heat pad....my next rev whenever that will be...full heat pad under the table to hav uniform temps......9" x 10"
Aug 18, 2015 5:32 AM - jim3Dbot: oh, working now on the IR 'z probe', pad next
Aug 18, 2015 5:33 AM - jim3Dbot: jeff, when u gettin' you piece of art back.....
Aug 18, 2015 5:35 AM - JeffTheMess: which one!? Hahaaa
    Aug 18, 2015 5:36 AM - jim3Dbot: bigler...dual bowd's...very nice work
Aug 18, 2015 5:38 AM - JeffTheMess: i don't want to go dual, i hear its a headache and people revert back
Aug 18, 2015 5:40 AM - jim3Dbot: duals for color, not so interested, not for my proto type work...but the 2nd extruder for soluble filiments, supports, would be nice...however, i'm using MC now but not 4 long......supports my be ok then......always design around them..if possible..
Aug 18, 2015 5:41 AM - JeffTheMess: you gotta go s3d, night and day difference
Aug 18, 2015 5:42 AM - jim3Dbot: orientate design right.....use 45 angles.....you are right s3d...is the go to slicer, but cura is free....
Aug 18, 2015 5:43 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah cura is great too
    Aug 18, 2015 5:44 AM - jim3Dbot: gotta hav breakfast...wife called....rainin' here..may be able to work on robo today...hav a good one...
    Aug 18, 2015 5:44 AM - JeffTheMess: i think Mike K uses cura and s3d
Aug 18, 2015 5:44 AM - JeffTheMess: see ya buddy
    Aug 18, 2015 5:44 AM - jim3Dbot: later jeff
    Aug 18, 2015 5:52 AM - jbigler1986: i just use S3D
Aug 18, 2015 5:52 AM - JeffTheMess: same here, cant go back to anything else
Aug 18, 2015 5:54 AM - JeffTheMess: MC gotta get there act together, it almost killed the 3d experience for me
    Aug 18, 2015 5:54 AM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Aug 18, 2015 5:55 AM - jbigler1986: need to put a coat of polyurethane on it and the top will be done
    Aug 18, 2015 5:56 AM - JeffTheMess: for....your new printer?
Aug 18, 2015 5:57 AM - jbigler1986: yeah. gonna either stain or paint the rest of it
    Aug 18, 2015 5:58 AM - JeffTheMess: awesome
    Aug 18, 2015 5:58 AM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Aug 18, 2015 5:58 AM - jbigler1986: that color combo looks really good
Aug 18, 2015 6:00 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah really does
Aug 18, 2015 6:09 AM - daniel871: MatterControl is probably responsible for 50% of the problems people have printing on the Robo (the other 50% is broken Y-belt clips, chipped bed glass and not tightening the Hexagon at assembly or the HfnCs).
Aug 18, 2015 6:10 AM - daniel871: Also making the X-axis run parallel to the bed.
    Aug 18, 2015 6:10 AM - jbigler1986: I would say MC and HfnC
Aug 18, 2015 6:12 AM - JeffTheMess: had my y clip broken super glued it came out fine
    Aug 18, 2015 6:13 AM - jbigler1986: yeah it breaks alot but it's a quick fix
Aug 18, 2015 6:13 AM - daniel871: I printed my replacements in PET+ and a couple spares, haven't had to use the spares yet.
    Aug 18, 2015 6:19 AM - daniel871: Ugh, I hate insurance companies.
    Aug 18, 2015 6:20 AM - jbigler1986: they are the worst
Aug 18, 2015 6:21 AM - daniel871: Got t-boned back in 2012, the person that hit me waited 22 months then filed a lawsuit against me, my insurance company settled because they were asking less than the policy coverage amount and "it isn't worth our time to fight it" and now I'm getting hit for round 2 another two years later because the person that T-boned me is using that settlement to sue their insurance company and the insurance company is in turn going to sue me.
Aug 18, 2015 6:21 AM - jbigler1986: you can never use it for 10 years then you need to use it and you have to just through 40 hoops
Aug 18, 2015 6:22 AM - daniel871: The time from filing to settlement the first time around was too fast for me to get money together to hire a lawyer for it, and now I'm basically fucked.
Aug 18, 2015 6:23 AM - daniel871: (also coincided with all of the medical bills I had left over from the chemo and surgery at the end of 2011)
Aug 18, 2015 6:23 AM - jbigler1986: he already accepted the settlement before. he should have no grounds
Aug 18, 2015 6:23 AM - daniel871: She isn't the insurance company being sued, also her insurance company signed no agreement regarding the settlement.
Aug 18, 2015 6:24 AM - daniel871: Like I said, I'm basically screwed because my insurance company (that I've had a policy with since 1998) didn't have my back.
Aug 18, 2015 6:25 AM - daniel871: To make things even better, because of that settlement, my rate quotes at the other competitor insurance agencies are double what they are with my current company, so it isn't like I can easily fire them and go to another company.
Aug 18, 2015 6:26 AM - jbigler1986: Still. She shouldn't be able to sue her insurance company either due to her accepting a settlment already

    Aug 18, 2015 6:26 AM - daniel871: Not the way it works.
Aug 18, 2015 6:27 AM - daniel871: If you get a settlement from someone else's company during an accident, you can use that to sue your own company for not covering you when you had the accident.
Aug 18, 2015 6:28 AM - jbigler1986: depends on whose fault it was
Aug 18, 2015 6:28 AM - daniel871: The killer of it all is that I have photos from the accident showing that the filed suit is a load of shit, but can't do anything about it because no actual judge is hearing the case yet and since my insurance company settled to start with, the evidence will never see the judge.
Aug 18, 2015 6:28 AM - daniel871: It was her fault. She ran a red light and t-boned the driver side of my car. Then waited two years, got some friends together to commit fraud and claim I ran the red light and hit the passenger side of her car.
Aug 18, 2015 6:28 AM - jbigler1986: since your insurance paid her you must have been proven to be at fault. therefore her insurance company wouldn't be the ones paying anything. yours would. which they already did
Aug 18, 2015 6:29 AM - daniel871: My insurance company was acting in bad faith because it cost less for them to settle than it would in billable hours to their attorneys to fight it.
Aug 18, 2015 6:30 AM - daniel871: Literally what I was told on the phone, but they were very careful never to put it in writing, so again, I'm fucked.
Aug 18, 2015 6:30 AM - daniel871: Also Georgia's bureau that investigates insurance fraud doesn't give a damn unless the monetary figure is more than six digits.
Aug 18, 2015 6:30 AM - jbigler1986: she had to of signed something saying she accepted a settlement
Aug 18, 2015 6:31 AM - daniel871: She is not her insurance company, and her insurance company is allowed to sue my insurance carrier and myself, and the way I'm reading the laws in Georgia on this I'm ultimately the one that will be paying any judgments that result from it.
Aug 18, 2015 6:33 AM - jbigler1986: I get that she is not suing you. She is suing her insurance company. However she has no right to since she already accepted a settlement
    Aug 18, 2015 6:33 AM - jbigler1986: Go get a free consultation
Aug 18, 2015 6:33 AM - daniel871: Also I'm two for two on local lawyers basically saying there is no way to stop her from suing her own insurance company and that I might as well get ready to be a statistic.
Aug 18, 2015 6:34 AM - daniel871: Because my insurance company dropped the ball and makes enough money to walk all over anyone not rich enough to contest them.
Aug 18, 2015 6:34 AM - jbigler1986: She can "TRY" to sue them. However she already accepted a settlement for the accident so she will not win
Aug 18, 2015 6:34 AM - daniel871: (Also that I cannot pay their fees that would make it worthwhile for them to take the case, either)
Aug 18, 2015 6:35 AM - jbigler1986: Consultations are free. That way you will at least get some legal advice
Aug 18, 2015 6:36 AM - daniel871: So far the consultations have been "Yeah, you're fucked, buddy".
Aug 18, 2015 6:43 AM - daniel871: Mainly because "the fact that your insurance company settled overrides any arguments about the actual accident. Those photos will never see a judge because their lawyer will have it barred from being submitted as evidence, arguing that any such evidence should have meant the insurance company would fight against settling & etc."
    Aug 18, 2015 7:05 AM - Bill Monroe: back
    Aug 18, 2015 7:08 AM - daniel871: Aw. Lamborghini Batman is dead.
    Aug 18, 2015 7:08 AM - daniel871: http://batman-news.com/2015/08/17/l...ed-childrens-hospitals-dies-highway-accident/
Aug 18, 2015 7:09 AM - daniel871: Pulled over because of car trouble, gets hit by a Toyota Camry.
Aug 18, 2015 7:09 AM - Bill Monroe: <-- own nothing.. sue me all you want :)
Aug 18, 2015 7:09 AM - daniel871: I still work for a living so they can garnish my wages and get me fired if nothing else.
Aug 18, 2015 7:10 AM - daniel871: Because companies will find a way to fire you rather than deal with having to process a wage garnishment.
Aug 18, 2015 7:10 AM - Bill Monroe: even my Robo belongs to the trust
Aug 18, 2015 7:10 AM - Bill Monroe: if you're worth keeping, they'll deal with it
Aug 18, 2015 7:12 AM - daniel871: Georgia is the state of "nobody that isn't an Executive is worth keeping".
Aug 18, 2015 7:12 AM - Bill Monroe: i'm pretty sure the State of Georgia values more than executives
Aug 18, 2015 7:13 AM - daniel871: Right to Work means Right to Get Fired if you inconvenience your employer in any way.
    Aug 18, 2015 7:13 AM - Bill Monroe: ooook
Aug 18, 2015 7:14 AM - daniel871: Also there is an annual meeting where the VPs tell everyone that any person in the room can be replaced in three days so they can do the job or get out.
Aug 18, 2015 7:15 AM - daniel871: The only protected wage garnishments are the ones for alimony or child support. If it's something like a civil suit you can be fired over it.
Aug 18, 2015 7:16 AM - daniel871: Biggest reason I still work here is that I make more money here than I would at any other company doing similar work in the state (I've looked).
Aug 18, 2015 7:19 AM - jbigler1986: if your company values you they will deal with it
    Aug 18, 2015 7:19 AM - jbigler1986: morning bill
    Aug 18, 2015 7:19 AM - Bill Monroe: Justin!
Aug 18, 2015 7:20 AM - Bill Monroe: << coincidentally recieved his annual performace review just yesterday
Aug 18, 2015 7:20 AM - jbigler1986: i'm going through all of my bullshit and my boss and coworkers are even willing to be character witnesses if needed
    Aug 18, 2015 7:21 AM - Bill Monroe: ^^ valued
Aug 18, 2015 7:21 AM - jbigler1986: Bill did you test that part yet
Aug 18, 2015 7:21 AM - Bill Monroe: why yes, yes I did
    Aug 18, 2015 7:21 AM - jbigler1986: i'm sure it worked out great
Aug 18, 2015 7:22 AM - Bill Monroe: it is satisfactory, thank you
    Aug 18, 2015 7:22 AM - Mike Kelly: mornin
    Aug 18, 2015 7:22 AM - jbigler1986: morning
Aug 18, 2015 7:22 AM - Bill Monroe: i need to make an adapter plate though, the machine's Z-reach isn't low enough so, some mill work is in order
    Aug 18, 2015 7:23 AM - jbigler1986: i wish i had the tools available for that
Aug 18, 2015 7:24 AM - Bill Monroe: Maybe I'll have my intern do it... she took the class for the bridgeport and has been jonesing to do something on it
Aug 18, 2015 7:25 AM - Bill Monroe: I think the guys in the machine shop would appreciate that :)
Aug 18, 2015 7:25 AM - daniel871: You mean you haven't already given the intern a bunch of make-work to do?
Aug 18, 2015 7:27 AM - Bill Monroe: I've given her real work to do.. mostly failure investigations and composing test reports though... the mill would be fun work
Aug 18, 2015 7:30 AM - JeffTheMess: jeez..had to rush home wife is crazy sick
    Aug 18, 2015 7:30 AM - Bill Monroe: eek
Aug 18, 2015 7:30 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah so whats going on here
    Aug 18, 2015 7:31 AM - jbigler1986: you don't want to know
Aug 18, 2015 7:31 AM - daniel871: Sick and tired of being sick and tired.
Aug 18, 2015 7:31 AM - Mike Kelly: laugh my way through hurricanes and fire
    Aug 18, 2015 7:31 AM - JeffTheMess: sounds exciting
Aug 18, 2015 7:32 AM - daniel871: Also there needs to be a banner on the forums that says "STOP USING MATTER CONTROL 99% OF YOUR PROBLEMS ARE FROM THAT (also, get some replacement Y-belt clips and make sure your X-axis runs parallel to the bed)"
Aug 18, 2015 7:33 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah no way that would happen
Aug 18, 2015 7:33 AM - daniel871: Start telling people MatterControl is like the Shareware Sampler version of all of the good slicers.
Aug 18, 2015 7:33 AM - daniel871: If they like the Slic3r option go download and set up that actual slicer and use it. If they like Cura, get it, etc.
Aug 18, 2015 7:34 AM - daniel871: If the stars align and MatterSlice works for them, stick with it and be the unicorn.
Aug 18, 2015 7:34 AM - Mike Kelly: it would be better for robo3d to get in bed with cura
Aug 18, 2015 7:34 AM - JeffTheMess: MC is good (and only good) for brand spanking newbies that want to get into it, then we"convince" them to convert
Aug 18, 2015 7:35 AM - daniel871: I've seen more threads by people saying they can't get anything to successfully print in MatterControl than I have people having any luck with it.
Aug 18, 2015 7:36 AM - daniel871: Also on the Robo3D Owners group on FB. Good grief.
    Aug 18, 2015 7:36 AM - daniel871: (when it isn't broken Y-belt clips)
Aug 18, 2015 7:37 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah well
Aug 18, 2015 7:37 AM - Mike Kelly: z offset or z stepper driver overheating
Aug 18, 2015 7:37 AM - Bill Monroe: I used matter control quite successfully until I discovered S3D
Aug 18, 2015 7:37 AM - daniel871: How long ago was that Bill? Seems like MatterControl has set out to deliberately break the software with each update.
Aug 18, 2015 7:38 AM - Bill Monroe: couple of weeks
Aug 18, 2015 7:38 AM - JeffTheMess: anything seams "successful" when only using one type of software :)
    Aug 18, 2015 7:38 AM - daniel871: What's that, MK?
Aug 18, 2015 7:38 AM - Bill Monroe: in this case, it means I made successful useable parts
Aug 18, 2015 7:39 AM - Mike Kelly: i tried using MC on my refurb R1 when I got it for a bit, to get the "new user" experience
Aug 18, 2015 7:39 AM - Mike Kelly: it was OK for a while, i just couldn't stand using it anymore because the autolevel sequence didn't run every time and you had to reload to make it run
    Aug 18, 2015 7:40 AM - Mike Kelly: and i didn't trust it's "remembering" of the value
Aug 18, 2015 7:41 AM - daniel871: I kept getting slice previews of everything going to Hell and turning into a yarn ball of filament halfway through any print longer than two hours with MC.
Aug 18, 2015 7:41 AM - Bill Monroe: oh wait.. i used it for a couple of weeks.. it was last December
Aug 18, 2015 7:41 AM - daniel871: If even the previews shows it fucking up I figure the software is junk.
Aug 18, 2015 7:42 AM - JeffTheMess: slicing took FOREVER!
    Aug 18, 2015 7:42 AM - daniel871: Also that.
Aug 18, 2015 7:44 AM - jbigler1986: need to uncheck crossing perimeters to fix the slicing time
    Aug 18, 2015 7:48 AM - jbigler1986: anyone used ebony stain before?>
    Aug 18, 2015 7:48 AM - Bill Monroe: yup
Aug 18, 2015 7:49 AM - jbigler1986: how light was the wood you used it on
Aug 18, 2015 7:49 AM - Bill Monroe: i tried basswood, spruce, and maple
Aug 18, 2015 7:50 AM - jbigler1986: how many coats did it take
Aug 18, 2015 7:50 AM - Bill Monroe: well just one.. but I kept rewetting it through several hours
Aug 18, 2015 7:52 AM - jbigler1986: how dark did it turn out?
Aug 18, 2015 7:54 AM - Bill Monroe: very, the maple looked best though.. I think birch would work well too.. the softwoods didnt have much grain to speak of so, the just looked black :)
    Aug 18, 2015 7:55 AM - jbigler1986: which is what i'm going for
    Aug 18, 2015 8:02 AM - Mike Glass: Morning
Aug 18, 2015 8:03 AM - Mike Kelly: sup mike
Aug 18, 2015 8:03 AM - Mike Glass: cnc transformation almost complete

Aug 18, 2015 8:03 AM - Mike Glass: I stiffend the bed with some durock and more wood planks too
Aug 18, 2015 8:04 AM - Mike Glass: think it weighs around 300 lbs
    Aug 18, 2015 8:06 AM - Bill Monroe: MG has a 300 lb stiffy
Aug 18, 2015 8:06 AM - Mike Glass: almost dumped it on the floor last night getting the durock under it..lol
Aug 18, 2015 8:08 AM - Bill Monroe: now cover it with a delightful mosaic tile design
Aug 18, 2015 8:08 AM - Mike Glass: I do have alot of tile scraps
Aug 18, 2015 8:08 AM - Bill Monroe: let you mind and thinset flow....
Aug 18, 2015 8:09 AM - Mike Glass: worst job in the world, tileing.
Aug 18, 2015 8:09 AM - Bill Monroe: think so? attic insulation is my worst
Aug 18, 2015 8:10 AM - Mike Glass: well I get to do that soon enough not looking forward to it, waiting for cooler weather
Aug 18, 2015 8:11 AM - Bill Monroe: thats one job I pay for installers
    Aug 18, 2015 8:11 AM - daniel871: Spray on Closed Cell insulation. :p
Aug 18, 2015 8:11 AM - Bill Monroe: but no more.. Joshua Tree houses have no attics :)
Aug 18, 2015 8:13 AM - Mike Glass: glass roofs?
    Aug 18, 2015 8:13 AM - Bill Monroe: yipes
Aug 18, 2015 8:14 AM - Bill Monroe: mine have 24" "solid" roofs.. basically styrofoam with plywood skins
Aug 18, 2015 8:14 AM - Bill Monroe: the workshop will be earth sheltered
    Aug 18, 2015 8:18 AM - donhuevo: I want to vomit
Aug 18, 2015 8:18 AM - Bill Monroe: face the other way
    Aug 18, 2015 8:18 AM - donhuevo: good call
Aug 18, 2015 8:18 AM - daniel871: Why, were you the guy that did this? http://i.imgur.com/XXivxeo.gif
    Aug 18, 2015 8:18 AM - jbigler1986: ummm
    Aug 18, 2015 8:18 AM - daniel871: Linked instead of embedded.
Aug 18, 2015 8:18 AM - donhuevo: home computer is on the verge of shitting the bed. Can't find a replacement motherboard
    Aug 18, 2015 8:19 AM - daniel871: How recent was the build?
    Aug 18, 2015 8:19 AM - jbigler1986: rebuild time
    Aug 18, 2015 8:19 AM - daniel871: Also who made the MB?
Aug 18, 2015 8:20 AM - daniel871: I know ASUS honors the warranty on motherboards for 3 years if there is no obvious physical abuse, can't speak for other manufacturers though.
    Aug 18, 2015 8:22 AM - jbigler1986: what socket is it
Aug 18, 2015 8:23 AM - donhuevo: it's an i7 but not sure of the socket type
Aug 18, 2015 8:23 AM - donhuevo: small form factor
    Aug 18, 2015 8:23 AM - jbigler1986: newer or a few years old?
    Aug 18, 2015 8:24 AM - jbigler1986: what model is the i7
    Aug 18, 2015 8:24 AM - donhuevo: 4770
    Aug 18, 2015 8:24 AM - daniel871: They have a couple different i7.
Aug 18, 2015 8:24 AM - daniel871: LGA 1150 is the most common socket though.
    Aug 18, 2015 8:24 AM - jbigler1986: it's 1150
    Aug 18, 2015 8:25 AM - donhuevo: it's only 11:29
    Aug 18, 2015 8:25 AM - jbigler1986: there are a ton of 1150 boards
    Aug 18, 2015 8:25 AM - jbigler1986: looking for something specific
    Aug 18, 2015 8:25 AM - daniel871: Yeah, that i7 goes in an LGA1150 socket.
Aug 18, 2015 8:26 AM - donhuevo: I'd prefer it be a direct replacement for what's in the Acer x4630g
Aug 18, 2015 8:27 AM - jbigler1986: reason? they are normally plug and play except a few drivers
Aug 18, 2015 8:28 AM - daniel871: Probably not sure about the layout of the mounting screws/etc.
Aug 18, 2015 8:28 AM - donhuevo: as long as the form factor matches and I get to keep my front-facing usb 3.0 ports, I'm good
    Aug 18, 2015 8:28 AM - jbigler1986: ok. that openes it up
    Aug 18, 2015 8:29 AM - jbigler1986: i rarely use full size boards myself
    Aug 18, 2015 8:29 AM - jbigler1986: price range?
Aug 18, 2015 8:30 AM - donhuevo: I'm looking at $500 to replace the machine and a wasted weekend moving files and reinstalling all the software I use so...
Aug 18, 2015 8:30 AM - daniel871: The front facing USB is usually just plugged in and not part of the MB itself.
Aug 18, 2015 8:31 AM - jbigler1986: needs to have 3.0 plug. just about all do now though
    Aug 18, 2015 8:31 AM - daniel871: Here, pick one. High odds of it working. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&N=100007627 600438202 4814
Aug 18, 2015 8:31 AM - donhuevo: it has an oddball power supply plug I've never seen before too
    Aug 18, 2015 8:32 AM - donhuevo: really odd
Aug 18, 2015 8:32 AM - daniel871: Look at the pictures and see if it matches what you see when you open it up.
Aug 18, 2015 8:32 AM - jbigler1986: pick one with a single pciex16. that will be the small form factor you want
    Aug 18, 2015 8:33 AM - daniel871: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.2452833
    Aug 18, 2015 8:34 AM - jbigler1986: there ya go
Aug 18, 2015 8:35 AM - jbigler1986: gross. memory sucks on that one
Aug 18, 2015 8:36 AM - daniel871: Micro boards usually sacrifice memory for space.
    Aug 18, 2015 8:37 AM - daniel871: Well, there's this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.2453251
    Aug 18, 2015 8:37 AM - daniel871: 16GB max memory.
    Aug 18, 2015 8:37 AM - donhuevo: this was the original... http://www.notebooksolutions.ca/zc/acer-original-motherboard-ac83389-69380.html
    Aug 18, 2015 8:37 AM - jbigler1986: not true. http://www.frys.com/product/8510999?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
Aug 18, 2015 8:38 AM - jbigler1986: picked up that one on my new cheap build. threw in some 2133 ram. the thing is rocking
    Aug 18, 2015 8:39 AM - daniel871: AMD setup though vs. Intel.
Aug 18, 2015 8:40 AM - daniel871: Also MSI is one of the better designers out there.
Aug 18, 2015 8:40 AM - donhuevo: the last time I built from scratch, I used an MSI board
Aug 18, 2015 8:40 AM - jbigler1986: yeah. although lots of the MSI boards look like crap
    Aug 18, 2015 8:41 AM - daniel871: I went with ASUS because they're also pretty solid, usually.
Aug 18, 2015 8:41 AM - jbigler1986: yeah. wtf on the power connector
Aug 18, 2015 8:43 AM - daniel871: Acer being dicks, I bet. "You must buy replacements from us or replace both the motherboard and the PSU at the same time.
    Aug 18, 2015 8:43 AM - jbigler1986: i like acer products
Aug 18, 2015 8:45 AM - donhuevo: I have an older acer same case size and figured I'd try to swap the power supply first. then big surprise
Aug 18, 2015 8:45 AM - donhuevo: the older veriton had the standard atx plug
Aug 18, 2015 8:46 AM - jbigler1986: so is it the psu going bad?
Aug 18, 2015 8:47 AM - donhuevo: it was 6 quick beeps over and over and over again even before the bios started to post.
Aug 18, 2015 8:50 AM - donhuevo: three weeks ago, those beeps would happen once, maybe twice and then it would boot up. This morning they went on for over half an hour before it finally booted.
    Aug 18, 2015 8:50 AM - jbigler1986: soooooo.... morse code?
    Aug 18, 2015 8:51 AM - donhuevo: gate a20 error?
    Aug 18, 2015 8:52 AM - TxKent: Bad RAM?
    Aug 18, 2015 8:53 AM - jbigler1986: keyboard or keyboard controller error
Aug 18, 2015 8:53 AM - donhuevo: which makes me think it's more of a laptop kind of error
Aug 18, 2015 8:54 AM - jbigler1986: what kind of keyboard are you using
Aug 18, 2015 8:54 AM - donhuevo: dell usb. nothing special. the same keyboard I've used with it since it got here
    Aug 18, 2015 8:56 AM - jbigler1986: tried a different keyboard?
Aug 18, 2015 8:56 AM - jbigler1986: although it shouldn't matter since you aren't using the actual keyboard port
Aug 18, 2015 8:57 AM - donhuevo: nope. not yet. and wouldn't know if anything changed without a restart. which... the next restart could be it's last
Aug 18, 2015 8:58 AM - jbigler1986: yeah sounds like i would just get a new psu and mobo. would help for upgrades/failures in the future
Aug 18, 2015 8:59 AM - donhuevo: yep. good point.
    Aug 18, 2015 8:59 AM - donhuevo: thank jb
    Aug 18, 2015 8:59 AM - donhuevo: thanks
Aug 18, 2015 9:04 AM - jbigler1986: will save you a lot of headache and you can get both for less than $100 total
Aug 18, 2015 9:06 AM - donhuevo: but having both fit this case? may as well go barebones
Aug 18, 2015 9:08 AM - jbigler1986: what size is the current psu? most likely yes. just get a micro atx board
Aug 18, 2015 9:09 AM - jbigler1986: here is a good image on board sizes
    Aug 18, 2015 9:09 AM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Aug 18, 2015 9:11 AM - TxKent: I have an ITX computer at home for my firewall/ips. It works well - but they are harder to find.
Aug 18, 2015 9:13 AM - donhuevo: it's in the micro ATX neighborhood

Aug 18, 2015 9:19 AM - donhuevo: there's two slots at the bottom that got clipped
    Aug 18, 2015 9:22 AM - donhuevo: this is kinda close... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813135360
    Aug 18, 2015 9:25 AM - jbigler1986: i don't see a 3.0 plug on that one
Aug 18, 2015 9:30 AM - donhuevo: looking hard at this one now... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157586

Aug 18, 2015 9:33 AM - jbigler1986: see the 3.0 plug. that's what you need to look for
Aug 18, 2015 9:33 AM - jbigler1986: there should be a plug running from the front usb 3.0 plug to a plug like that on your mobo
    Aug 18, 2015 9:35 AM - Mike Kelly: bahhh
    Aug 18, 2015 9:35 AM - jbigler1986: what
    Aug 18, 2015 9:35 AM - Mike Kelly: i swear i haven't made a math mistake but these numbers aren't coming out
Aug 18, 2015 9:35 AM - Mike Kelly: granted i've never worked with flows in the 10 million cubic feet/day range yet
    Aug 18, 2015 9:35 AM - Mike Kelly: but i kinda doubt I need a 3.8m diameter pipe...
    Aug 18, 2015 9:36 AM - jbigler1986: that would be a big ass pipe
Aug 18, 2015 9:36 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah it would be ridiculous
    Aug 18, 2015 9:36 AM - Mike Kelly: i feel like i'm off by a decimal somewhere
Aug 18, 2015 9:36 AM - Mike Kelly: cause .38m aka 14in pipe would make sense
Aug 18, 2015 9:39 AM - TxKent: Don't have a NASA level error... they misplaced a decimal once, and sent a probe crashing into the sun.
Aug 18, 2015 9:40 AM - jbigler1986: i'm sure it melted before it got that close
    Aug 18, 2015 9:41 AM - TxKent: Yeah, well, probably. :)
Aug 18, 2015 9:41 AM - Mike Kelly: the sun also doesn't have a "surface"
Aug 18, 2015 9:41 AM - Blake Benefield: Just use 1/2" pipe and be done with it
    Aug 18, 2015 9:42 AM - Mike Kelly: haha
Aug 18, 2015 9:42 AM - Blake Benefield: when they ask what you're doing look them dead in the face and yell "HALF INCH"
    Aug 18, 2015 9:42 AM - TxKent: LOL
Aug 18, 2015 9:43 AM - jbigler1986: Blake, how is the hictop treating you?
Aug 18, 2015 9:44 AM - Blake Benefield: it broke!
Aug 18, 2015 9:44 AM - Blake Benefield: ok not really
Aug 18, 2015 9:44 AM - Blake Benefield: but I was about 80% through a print last night and one of the nuts came off of the belt bracket on the Y carriage and it started sorta jumping during movement so I stopped it
Aug 18, 2015 9:45 AM - Blake Benefield: so I'll locktite it tonight and be good to go again
Aug 18, 2015 9:45 AM - jbigler1986: sweet. so no real issues so far then
    Aug 18, 2015 9:47 AM - jbigler1986: man this BenMac guy
Aug 18, 2015 9:47 AM - jbigler1986: I really hope he doesn't buy a Robo. It really doesn't sound like he can afford it
Aug 18, 2015 9:48 AM - Blake Benefield: Only issue is the bed temp. Max is 88 degrees. Apparently it comes with a 130 watt board, but the smoothie board it comes with only has 100watt output
Aug 18, 2015 9:48 AM - Blake Benefield: but i was printing ABS at 85 last night with no issues
Aug 18, 2015 9:49 AM - jbigler1986: that should be enough. no warping?
Aug 18, 2015 9:49 AM - Blake Benefield: My sharpie clips warped, but I had the bed at 70 and didn't use hairspray
    Aug 18, 2015 9:49 AM - Blake Benefield: nor did I use a raft
    Aug 18, 2015 9:51 AM - jbigler1986: how big was the part
    Aug 18, 2015 9:52 AM - Blake Benefield: small
Aug 18, 2015 9:52 AM - Mike Kelly: ok found my math error
    Aug 18, 2015 9:52 AM - Mike Kelly: 4.6" diameter, much better
Aug 18, 2015 9:53 AM - Blake Benefield: its a little sharpie clip that holds my sharpies to my counting machine
Aug 18, 2015 9:53 AM - jbigler1986: let me know if you print something larger. curious to see if it warps
Aug 18, 2015 9:55 AM - Blake Benefield: Last night I used hairspray and had the bed at 85 and was printing a 4" box. It wasn't coming up at all.
    Aug 18, 2015 9:56 AM - jbigler1986: hmmm
Aug 18, 2015 9:56 AM - jbigler1986: sounds better than the Robo. Robo hates abs
    Aug 18, 2015 9:56 AM - jbigler1986: as far as warping anyways
Aug 18, 2015 9:57 AM - Blake Benefield: Have you checked the robo?
    Aug 18, 2015 9:57 AM - jbigler1986: what do you mean
Aug 18, 2015 9:58 AM - Blake Benefield: the hictop's heated bed comes preassembled and wired (unlike most DIY printers) and the pcb heater board has a hole in the middle where the thermistor goes in and into the aluminum plate. When I surface checked my bed my thermal showed 1 degree hotter than the sensor
Aug 18, 2015 9:59 AM - Blake Benefield: It also comes with perf board if I wanted to use that, but I figured the heat would be better
Aug 18, 2015 10:00 AM - jbigler1986: perf board is a bitch to remove the print. I used perf board on my UP! Mini I had for a little bit
Aug 18, 2015 10:00 AM - Blake Benefield: I haven't bought the clips to attach it yet.
Aug 18, 2015 10:01 AM - jbigler1986: it holds the part really well. Just not fun to remove
Aug 18, 2015 10:02 AM - Blake Benefield: Anyway I've heard that some of the glass beds stay as much as 10 degree's cooler than indicated
Aug 18, 2015 10:02 AM - Blake Benefield: no clue how the robo's therm is mounted or anything.
Aug 18, 2015 10:03 AM - Mike Kelly: tape to the heater
Aug 18, 2015 10:03 AM - jbigler1986: i have wondered what the actual surface temp is compared to the reading
    Aug 18, 2015 10:03 AM - daniel871: Cork liner and tape.
Aug 18, 2015 10:03 AM - Mike Kelly: tape a thermocouple to the bed or measure with an IR thermometer
    Aug 18, 2015 10:03 AM - jbigler1986: MK have you tested that
Aug 18, 2015 10:04 AM - daniel871: Where I covered the cork liner with HVAC tape to keep it from sagging on my new bed seems to have made it a lot faster to heat up/better at maintaining temps than the original bed.
Aug 18, 2015 10:04 AM - daniel871: Also no sagging onto the belt below.
Aug 18, 2015 10:06 AM - TxKent: I used my IR thermometer on mine the other day - it was within 1 degree C. Low I believe.
Aug 18, 2015 10:10 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah 10degree seems like a very large gradient
Aug 18, 2015 10:10 AM - Blake Benefield: I ordered a silicone pad for mine to help it out a bit.
Aug 18, 2015 10:11 AM - Blake Benefield: MK, i think that's like prusa's that are open on bottom like mine, have a glass plate on top and the thermistor is mounted too close to the element etc.
Aug 18, 2015 10:15 AM - Blake Benefield: I've gotta get something other than CURA too... lack of adjustment is already getting old
    Aug 18, 2015 10:18 AM - jbigler1986: cura is pretty good
    Aug 18, 2015 10:18 AM - jbigler1986: try repetier host
    Aug 18, 2015 10:20 AM - Mike Glass: morning
    Aug 18, 2015 10:20 AM - daniel871: Simplify3D man.
Aug 18, 2015 10:23 AM - Blake Benefield: CURA isn't bad, but MG was telling me that simplify will let you change temps between layers etc
    Aug 18, 2015 10:23 AM - daniel871: Yep.
Aug 18, 2015 10:23 AM - daniel871: You can set layers at which to change temps.
Aug 18, 2015 10:24 AM - daniel871: Like. Setpoint 1 for the bed is 110 at Layer 1 for ABS, then I can add a setpoint 2 at layer 5 to lower the bed temp to 95 if I want to. Same thing for the nozzle temps.
Aug 18, 2015 10:24 AM - daniel871: I haven't fiddled with it very much, but the capability is there and very easy to do.
Aug 18, 2015 10:25 AM - daniel871: Also you can assign "profiles" to specific material types if you want. I have a profile for ABS, one for PET+, one for Nylon, etc.
Aug 18, 2015 10:27 AM - daniel871: I got a little nuts with that bit though and have different profiles for different nozzle sizes and configurations (v6 vs. volcano, with and without the PrintinZ plate, etc.).
Aug 18, 2015 10:27 AM - daniel871: Vase mode vs. not vase mode versions of each material as well.
Aug 18, 2015 10:29 AM - Blake Benefield: cura lets you save "profiles" but the only things it saves are bed temp, nozzle temp and speed. doesn't save anything else
Aug 18, 2015 10:29 AM - Blake Benefield: So basically I have PLA and ABS
Aug 18, 2015 10:29 AM - Blake Benefield: and abs I have to remember to make sure I raft it, because that part doesn't save by default.
    Aug 18, 2015 10:31 AM - Blake Benefield: [IMG]

Aug 18, 2015 10:34 AM - Mike Glass: too hot or not enough fan.
Aug 18, 2015 10:34 AM - daniel871: Yeah, I keep forgetting about rafting because *someone* said that you should never have to raft anything on a heated platform.
Aug 18, 2015 10:34 AM - daniel871: If you put enough adhesive down.
Aug 18, 2015 10:35 AM - Blake Benefield: that was ABS printed at 230 with the bed at 70 and on white masking tape... no adhesive.
Aug 18, 2015 10:35 AM - donhuevo: what are we going to do about that ribbing?
Aug 18, 2015 10:36 AM - Mike Glass: put some really lead screws on it
    Aug 18, 2015 10:36 AM - jbigler1986: bam
Aug 18, 2015 10:36 AM - Blake Benefield: yeah, once robo sells them I'll probably order a pair
    Aug 18, 2015 10:37 AM - jbigler1986: lots of other suppliers
    Aug 18, 2015 10:37 AM - donhuevo: omc, robotdigg
Aug 18, 2015 10:37 AM - Blake Benefield: If they don't work I have people I can pawn them off on this way JB

Aug 18, 2015 10:44 AM - donhuevo: I'm just replacing the motherboard and power supply in the acer veriton I already have
Aug 18, 2015 10:44 AM - TxKent: I have the AMD version similar to that board. Not bad.
    Aug 18, 2015 10:45 AM - Blake Benefield: gotcha
Aug 18, 2015 10:46 AM - donhuevo: the current motherboard is in the process of shitting the bed and the power supply isn't standard atx
Aug 18, 2015 10:46 AM - Blake Benefield: havent built an itx in years
Aug 18, 2015 10:47 AM - donhuevo: I'm hoping it's going to be like the pull the tablecloth out from under the china and candlesticks with everything standing after
Aug 18, 2015 10:47 AM - Blake Benefield: i had a small lan rig once that was a micro atx and had a 15" lcd mounted to the side of the case, a hard shell that snapped over the screen for travel and a handle on top
Aug 18, 2015 10:48 AM - Blake Benefield: was pretty handy back in the Diablo 2 days.
Aug 18, 2015 10:48 AM - donhuevo: sounds like an ugly laptop
Aug 18, 2015 10:48 AM - Blake Benefield: only with real memory and video
Aug 18, 2015 10:48 AM - Mike Glass: Hey Blake [IMG]
Aug 18, 2015 10:49 AM - Blake Benefield: turned out nice Mike
Aug 18, 2015 10:49 AM - Blake Benefield: printer ink... WHO KNEW!
Aug 18, 2015 10:49 AM - donhuevo: everytime I see that, it looks like a fish before it looks like an arrowhead
    Aug 18, 2015 10:49 AM - jbigler1986: you mean that gold ink
Aug 18, 2015 10:50 AM - Mike Glass: need to find some epoxy in bigger quanities now.
Aug 18, 2015 10:51 AM - jbigler1986: what freq is your current ram don?
Aug 18, 2015 11:00 AM - donhuevo: dunno for sure. I could turn it off and check though
    Aug 18, 2015 11:00 AM - jbigler1986: that's dangerous though
    Aug 18, 2015 11:01 AM - jbigler1986: you can run cpu-z
    Aug 18, 2015 11:01 AM - donhuevo: pc3 12800
Aug 18, 2015 11:01 AM - jbigler1986: wait. is it the stock ram
Aug 18, 2015 11:02 AM - donhuevo: I think I bumped it to 8gb shortly after purchasing but I can't find the newegg receipt
Aug 18, 2015 11:02 AM - daniel871: You can also use the detector thing here. http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/systemscanner
Aug 18, 2015 11:02 AM - daniel871: They list what you have and what you can upgrade to (to try and sell it to you) but that'll at least tell you what you have.
    Aug 18, 2015 11:03 AM - daniel871: I'd never buy a Crucial SSD though.
    Aug 18, 2015 11:04 AM - donhuevo: it's the pc3 12800
Aug 18, 2015 11:04 AM - donhuevo: flashlight and magnifying glass I was able to read it where it sat
Aug 18, 2015 11:05 AM - Mike Kelly: man my dog is such a shithead
Aug 18, 2015 11:05 AM - Mike Kelly: runs off any chance she gets
Aug 18, 2015 11:05 AM - Mike Kelly: i need to add a tracker on her
    Aug 18, 2015 11:06 AM - daniel871: Enjoy your puppies 56-69 days later.
    Aug 18, 2015 11:06 AM - jbigler1986: so 1600. should be fine
Aug 18, 2015 11:08 AM - donhuevo: yep, should swap right over
Aug 18, 2015 11:08 AM - TxKent: I ran into that. "Hey, the slots for the RAM don't line up."
Aug 18, 2015 11:12 AM - daniel871: Then you realize it's like flipping the USB connection over twice before it fits.
    Aug 18, 2015 11:15 AM - TxKent: The "super-position"
    Aug 18, 2015 11:15 AM - jbigler1986:
    Aug 18, 2015 11:15 AM - jbigler1986: crazy
    Aug 18, 2015 11:20 AM - daniel871: I prefer this one:
Aug 18, 2015 11:20 AM - daniel871: Just make it able to move a little bit faster.
Aug 18, 2015 11:20 AM - TxKent: Later guys. I have to do a vendor meeting.
Aug 18, 2015 11:21 AM - daniel871: Also re-develop the controls so it doesn't take three separate people to drive it.
    Aug 18, 2015 11:21 AM - jbigler1986: that ones is user controlled
Aug 18, 2015 11:22 AM - daniel871: Did that USA vs. Japan Mech fight happen yet? There are challenge and response videos but no follow up.
    Aug 18, 2015 11:23 AM - jbigler1986: i dont think so
Aug 18, 2015 11:23 AM - Bigc: Some how i have fried the ardunio MEGA and the LCD conntroller on my printer yet the Ramps board is fine
Aug 18, 2015 11:24 AM - Mike Kelly: ramps is just a shield
    Aug 18, 2015 11:24 AM - daniel871:
Aug 18, 2015 11:25 AM - Bigc: Mike could the print bed being a 100c affect the Mega
Aug 18, 2015 11:25 AM - daniel871: That video also showcases some other robots
Aug 18, 2015 11:25 AM - Mike Kelly: not unless it shorted the wiring
Aug 18, 2015 11:28 AM - Bigc: So odds are it was just a fluke because the new mega i put in there is working fine
Aug 18, 2015 11:31 AM - jbigler1986: those robos are kind of creepy
Aug 18, 2015 11:33 AM - Bigc: Yet when i plug the lcd in it shows up for a few seconds and then the printer freezes and i have to manually restart the printer
Aug 18, 2015 11:33 AM - Blake Benefield: I'll probably change to a mega/ramps setup if/when the smoothie board blows
Aug 18, 2015 11:33 AM - Blake Benefield: creeps me out that if I move the bed with the printer un plugged, moving the bed powers the LCD
Aug 18, 2015 11:34 AM - donhuevo: turning your steppers into little generators
    Aug 18, 2015 11:35 AM - Blake Benefield: yep
Aug 18, 2015 11:36 AM - donhuevo: good to know though if you're ever stranded in the wilderness with a stepper motor in your pocket
Aug 18, 2015 11:38 AM - Blake Benefield: treadmill motors work well too
Aug 18, 2015 11:39 AM - donhuevo: make a little bamboo crank and charge your cell phone
Aug 18, 2015 11:40 AM - Bigc: Hey don what is the print speed you are getting with your bowdwn tube setup
    Aug 18, 2015 11:40 AM - jbigler1986: 25mm/s
    Aug 18, 2015 11:40 AM - jbigler1986: :p
    Aug 18, 2015 11:40 AM - Blake Benefield: bbl
    Aug 18, 2015 11:40 AM - jbigler1986: see ya
    Aug 18, 2015 11:40 AM - jbigler1986: i think he runs at 150
Aug 18, 2015 11:41 AM - donhuevo: I'm doing 150 on the infill straightaways but keeping the exterior perimeters pretty slow
Aug 18, 2015 11:49 AM - Bigc: I think i am going to replace the stock setup with some form of a bowden tube setup
Aug 18, 2015 11:52 AM - donhuevo: I've never regretted going bowden but others have
Aug 18, 2015 11:56 AM - Bigc: What are the main disadvantages to bowden tube
    Aug 18, 2015 11:59 AM - Blake Benefield: JB... http://www.elecrow.com/3d-printer-the-z-axis-stepper-motor-lead-screw-300mm-lead-screw-p-1336.html
Aug 18, 2015 12:00 PM - daniel871: Only disadvantage I've heard of is having a setup that flattens the filament so that the tube generates a lot of friction on the filament, stressing the steppers that drive the extruder if you don't have a good one.
Aug 18, 2015 12:01 PM - daniel871: Also possibly stripping out at the drive gear on the Bowden cold end if the friction gets high enough.
Aug 18, 2015 12:01 PM - daniel871: Also the bit of filament left in the tube when the spool runs out is basically wasted unless you happen to be around to get another spool started if you run a print that long.
Aug 18, 2015 12:05 PM - daniel871: Nice leadscrew link, by the way.
    Aug 18, 2015 12:06 PM - Mike Kelly: you really want 350mm
Aug 18, 2015 12:07 PM - daniel871: Shoot, go for broke and get some meter long lead screws and rods.
    Aug 18, 2015 12:07 PM - Mike Kelly: lol i wouldn't recommend that for a 3d printer, maybe a CNC
Aug 18, 2015 12:12 PM - daniel871: Drop some serious money on one of the gantry machines here: http://www.iptech1.com/pdf/pa2.pdf
    Aug 18, 2015 12:14 PM - Mike Kelly: maybe once i'm rich
Aug 18, 2015 12:16 PM - daniel871: That plus a bunch of bondtechs feeding into the diamond hotend/whatever it is and you've got a monster 3d printer. :p
    Aug 18, 2015 12:16 PM - Mike Kelly: lol
Aug 18, 2015 12:16 PM - Mike Kelly: the size would be unlimited!
Aug 18, 2015 12:18 PM - daniel871: System 6 setup with some kind of home made heated floor panel for the bed.
    Aug 18, 2015 12:47 PM - daniel871: Sick burn. [IMG]
Aug 18, 2015 12:51 PM - donhuevo: finally got around to opening my hatchbox red. starting to print and it's all 'crumbly'. Look at the spool and it's ABfnS. damnit.
    Aug 18, 2015 12:51 PM - Mike Glass: hahaha
Aug 18, 2015 12:52 PM - Mike Glass: poor don
Aug 18, 2015 12:52 PM - Mike Glass: looks like you were meant for abfns

Aug 18, 2015 12:52 PM - donhuevo: bed has hairspray on it. started the print thinking it was pla. trying to decide whether I should stop it now or wait til it fails
Aug 18, 2015 12:53 PM - daniel871: Crank the nozzle temp and bed temp up and see if it can be saved.
    Aug 18, 2015 12:53 PM - donhuevo: already done
    Aug 18, 2015 12:53 PM - donhuevo: I'm at 250/90
Aug 18, 2015 12:53 PM - daniel871: Watch it turn out extruding cold at the start saves it.
Aug 18, 2015 12:54 PM - daniel871: "Raft at PLA temps, then ramp up to ABS for the actual part"
Aug 18, 2015 12:54 PM - donhuevo: the base is roundish so warping at a corner is a non-issue
Aug 18, 2015 12:59 PM - Blake Benefield: where did you order it don? I started out ordering 3 rolls of PLA. 2 of which shipped ABS
Aug 18, 2015 1:00 PM - Blake Benefield: I ordered purple, white and transparent orange. Purple of course came in right...
Aug 18, 2015 1:01 PM - daniel871: At least the DG will make it in the right color.
    Aug 18, 2015 1:02 PM - Blake Benefield: DG?
    Aug 18, 2015 1:02 PM - donhuevo: I ordered from amazon
    Aug 18, 2015 1:02 PM - Mike Glass: jb's site
Aug 18, 2015 1:03 PM - donhuevo: need to check my receipt
Aug 18, 2015 1:03 PM - donhuevo: and totally my fault
Aug 18, 2015 1:04 PM - Blake Benefield: that sucks
Aug 18, 2015 1:04 PM - Mike Glass: i hate when i do that, usually the wrong size
Aug 18, 2015 1:04 PM - Mike Glass: send it back
Aug 18, 2015 1:05 PM - Mike Glass: or send it to me:)
Aug 18, 2015 1:05 PM - daniel871: Yeah, at least with Amazon you can be all "I ordered the wrong shit" and unless it's electronics they'll take it back.
Aug 18, 2015 1:05 PM - Mike Kelly: usually it's like $8 to ship it back though
Aug 18, 2015 1:06 PM - donhuevo: one day I'll have a printer that will print ABfnS well
Aug 18, 2015 1:06 PM - Mike Glass: they pay for shipping when I send stuff back
Aug 18, 2015 1:06 PM - Mike Kelly: if you can decide on a design direction :)
    Aug 18, 2015 1:06 PM - donhuevo: haha
    Aug 18, 2015 1:06 PM - donhuevo: true
Aug 18, 2015 1:06 PM - Mike Kelly: MG it depends on the reason you select when returning
Aug 18, 2015 1:06 PM - Mike Glass: even if you order the wrong one they will pay
    Aug 18, 2015 1:07 PM - Mike Kelly: hmm i don't think that's true
Aug 18, 2015 1:07 PM - Mike Glass: yep, just sent back some 3.0
Aug 18, 2015 1:07 PM - Mike Kelly: i just returned the justpla red i bought because it was the wrong size, lemme see if i can tell how much they refunded
Aug 18, 2015 1:08 PM - donhuevo: don't let Bill hear you say you sent 3.0 back
Aug 18, 2015 1:08 PM - Mike Kelly: 8.82 refunded of the 16 dollar filament
    Aug 18, 2015 1:08 PM - daniel871: Because it was opened?
    Aug 18, 2015 1:09 PM - Mike Kelly: nope
    Aug 18, 2015 1:09 PM - Mike Kelly: that's just shipping
    Aug 18, 2015 1:09 PM - donhuevo: sorry, I was making a bad 2.0 joke
    Aug 18, 2015 1:09 PM - daniel871: Ah.
    Aug 18, 2015 1:09 PM - Mike Glass: ahah
    Aug 18, 2015 1:09 PM - Mike Kelly: http://www.amazon.com/justpla-Brick...d=1439928726&sr=8-2&keywords=justpla+red+1.75

Aug 18, 2015 1:09 PM - daniel871: And you had Prime the first go round so shipping was free that way.
Aug 18, 2015 1:09 PM - Blake Benefield: this is happening tonight
Aug 18, 2015 1:09 PM - Mike Kelly: how is this not cinamon?
Aug 18, 2015 1:09 PM - Mike Glass: They refunded the esun fully that I got
Aug 18, 2015 1:09 PM - Mike Kelly: right daniel
Aug 18, 2015 1:10 PM - Mike Kelly: and you picked ordered wrong item for reason?
    Aug 18, 2015 1:10 PM - Mike Glass: yes
Aug 18, 2015 1:10 PM - Mike Glass: I pay for prime they better
Aug 18, 2015 1:10 PM - Mike Kelly: hmm sucks to be me
Aug 18, 2015 1:11 PM - Mike Glass: maybe esun has different policy
Aug 18, 2015 1:11 PM - Blake Benefield: start having MG order for you lol
Aug 18, 2015 1:11 PM - Blake Benefield: pay him
Aug 18, 2015 1:13 PM - Mike Glass: I want to cut some metal, wish my collet was here.
Aug 18, 2015 1:13 PM - Blake Benefield: when do you go back to work?
    Aug 18, 2015 1:14 PM - Mike Glass: thursday
    Aug 18, 2015 1:14 PM - jbigler1986: what "SKIP THE TRIP. ONE-HOUR DELIVERY."
Aug 18, 2015 1:14 PM - Mike Glass: the day it arrives
    Aug 18, 2015 1:14 PM - jbigler1986: oh yeah. bc half a day wasn't fast enough i guess
    Aug 18, 2015 1:14 PM - daniel871: Hiring couriers?
    Aug 18, 2015 1:17 PM - jbigler1986: i would assume
    Aug 18, 2015 1:21 PM - jbigler1986: it's like household items. booooo
    Aug 18, 2015 1:21 PM - jbigler1986: that's just being extremely lazy
Aug 18, 2015 1:21 PM - daniel871: Next thing is Amazon setting up storage buildings on your property and putting inventory there on consignment so you just get whatever and pay for it when you use it.
Aug 18, 2015 1:22 PM - Blake Benefield: JB, I forgot. That link above is probably my biggest gripe so far about the hictop. There's no switch. Plug and unplug
    Aug 18, 2015 1:23 PM - jbigler1986: install one. wouldn't be hard
Aug 18, 2015 1:24 PM - Blake Benefield: I did this weekend. I'm gonna print that cover for the power supply tonight I think.
Aug 18, 2015 1:24 PM - Blake Benefield: debating on sending back the trans orange ABS or just ordering more PLA
    Aug 18, 2015 1:26 PM - jbigler1986: PLA PLA PLA
    Aug 18, 2015 1:26 PM - jbigler1986: i love PLA
Aug 18, 2015 1:27 PM - Mike Kelly: you haven't experienced true 3d printing until you sand blast and vapor polish an abs print
Aug 18, 2015 1:28 PM - jbigler1986: you haven't experienced true 3d printing until you get your tiko
Aug 18, 2015 1:28 PM - jbigler1986: i have vape polished an abs print. so there
Aug 18, 2015 1:30 PM - jbigler1986: lmao. may not want to watch it at work if you get in trouble for watching explicit vids
    Aug 18, 2015 1:30 PM - jbigler1986: it's a music video
Aug 18, 2015 1:32 PM - jbigler1986: if you watch it. WTF is wrong with people
Aug 18, 2015 1:33 PM - daniel871: Saw Miami in the description and said "Well, Florida"
Aug 18, 2015 1:34 PM - daniel871: Though in Atlanta you get this.
Aug 18, 2015 1:34 PM - Blake Benefield: lumping miami and florida together really isn't fair to new jersey
Aug 18, 2015 1:35 PM - daniel871: Yeah, but who cares about Jersey?
Aug 18, 2015 1:36 PM - Blake Benefield: good point
Aug 18, 2015 1:41 PM - daniel871: Other than Kevin Smith and a bunch of hipsters.
Aug 18, 2015 1:41 PM - Blake Benefield: So has anyone here (I know it's been done) converted a printer to use belts for the z axis?
Aug 18, 2015 1:41 PM - donhuevo: and Springsteen and Bon Jovi
Aug 18, 2015 1:42 PM - daniel871: Not me. Can't see why I would after the whole lead screw thing.
Aug 18, 2015 1:42 PM - daniel871: Might as well go rack and pinion for the trouble of getting belts to work properly.
Aug 18, 2015 1:43 PM - Blake Benefield: It doesn't seem as accurate to me, but then I'm seeing where people have converted to eliminate stair stepping
Aug 18, 2015 1:43 PM - Blake Benefield: well, reduce.
Aug 18, 2015 1:45 PM - Mike Glass: are you taking about ringing?
Aug 18, 2015 1:46 PM - Mike Glass: err ribbing?
    Aug 18, 2015 1:46 PM - Blake Benefield: yeah
Aug 18, 2015 1:46 PM - daniel871: I figured the X&Y positioning would cause that more than the Z-axis since it only moves to change layers.
Aug 18, 2015 1:47 PM - Mike Glass: belts on the z is not a good choice
Aug 18, 2015 1:47 PM - daniel871: Vertical velocity could cause bouncing if things aren't perfect.
Aug 18, 2015 1:47 PM - Mike Glass: yea that would be a disaster
Aug 18, 2015 1:48 PM - Blake Benefield: the z axis could be turned down extremely low... would have to
Aug 18, 2015 1:48 PM - Mike Glass: suppose if you want a slow printer
Aug 18, 2015 1:49 PM - Blake Benefield: A few printers do it apparently. And all the deltas do
Aug 18, 2015 1:49 PM - Blake Benefield: how much movement are you talking for z man? 0.1mm per move?
    Aug 18, 2015 1:49 PM - Blake Benefield: off of a 1/2" gear?

Aug 18, 2015 1:50 PM - Blake Benefield: Delta's all use belts, they're not bouncy lol
Aug 18, 2015 1:50 PM - Blake Benefield: and what are they? FAST
Aug 18, 2015 1:54 PM - Mike Glass: try it and let me know how it works for ya.
Aug 18, 2015 1:55 PM - Blake Benefield: I'm good... I haven't gotten my issues smoothed out yet on how its supposed to be. Not about to start modding
Aug 18, 2015 1:58 PM - Mike Glass: yea you need to work on the ribbing first
Aug 18, 2015 2:01 PM - Mike Kelly: integrated lead screws
    Aug 18, 2015 2:04 PM - jbigler1986: yep. do it
Aug 18, 2015 2:08 PM - Mike Glass: could sell you my extra set I guess
Aug 18, 2015 2:08 PM - donhuevo: what about the bb trick?
    Aug 18, 2015 2:09 PM - Blake Benefield: I'll find some
Aug 18, 2015 2:09 PM - Blake Benefield: I've got to measure my frame and see how long I need.
Aug 18, 2015 2:19 PM - daniel871: Deltas have a stationary build plate, the Robo and HIC don't. A belt suspended build on something like the M3D might work though.
Aug 18, 2015 2:20 PM - Blake Benefield: It appears that my threaded rod is 295mm. By the time you add the couplet and shaft of the motor I think MK's 350mm mark is about right.
Aug 18, 2015 2:21 PM - donhuevo: do you have a bb gun?
    Aug 18, 2015 2:21 PM - donhuevo: or some 3mm ball bearings?
    Aug 18, 2015 2:21 PM - Blake Benefield: I do
Aug 18, 2015 2:22 PM - donhuevo: put one in each coupler in between the motor shaft and the threaded rod. tighten back down and see if the ribbing goes away
    Aug 18, 2015 2:23 PM - Blake Benefield: I'll try it out
Aug 18, 2015 2:23 PM - Mike Glass: what do you think of the new setup. [IMG]
Aug 18, 2015 2:24 PM - Blake Benefield: looks like some putz put your machine together
Aug 18, 2015 2:24 PM - Blake Benefield: I like the control box on the left actually. Is that fan intake or exhaust?
Aug 18, 2015 2:25 PM - Mike Glass: exhause intake is on the front
Aug 18, 2015 2:25 PM - Blake Benefield: I can't help but wonder if this platform wouldn't benefit from using extruded alum and changing the brackets a bit
Aug 18, 2015 2:26 PM - Blake Benefield: turn them on the diag
Aug 18, 2015 2:27 PM - Mike Glass: but to keep cost down for any joe to build under $300 that wont happen with extruded.
Aug 18, 2015 2:29 PM - Mike Glass: cant wait to see the new design he's working on.
Aug 18, 2015 2:30 PM - Blake Benefield: What about square tubing on the diag? 1.5" square is only about $26 for a 20' stick
Aug 18, 2015 2:30 PM - Blake Benefield: may not be precise enough though
Aug 18, 2015 2:31 PM - Mike Glass: or as strong
Aug 18, 2015 2:31 PM - Blake Benefield: its stronger than conduit
Aug 18, 2015 2:31 PM - Blake Benefield: heavier though, that may be the issue too
Aug 18, 2015 2:31 PM - Blake Benefield: and not everyone has a local steel supply like i do
    Aug 18, 2015 2:32 PM - Blake Benefield: everyone has a lowes
Aug 18, 2015 2:32 PM - Mike Glass: or an electricain , I got most of mine free.
Aug 18, 2015 2:33 PM - Blake Benefield: time to finish.. bbl
    Aug 18, 2015 2:33 PM - Mike Glass: ok
    Aug 18, 2015 2:37 PM - Mike Kelly: https://www.facebook.com/2329409902...41827.232940990225863/455085614678065/?type=1 holy shit\
    Aug 18, 2015 2:39 PM - Mike Kelly: 1700C...
Aug 18, 2015 2:42 PM - PeterkSharma: i wonder if you could bake it to make all the layers seemless
Aug 18, 2015 2:43 PM - Mike Kelly: you'd need to do something to prevent it from pooling
Aug 18, 2015 2:44 PM - PeterkSharma: bake it really slow?
Aug 18, 2015 2:44 PM - Mike Kelly: lol mg
Aug 18, 2015 2:44 PM - Mike Kelly: well more i'm thinking heating it in sections
    Aug 18, 2015 2:44 PM - PeterkSharma: yeah sure
Aug 18, 2015 2:44 PM - PeterkSharma: you could test it with a torch
Aug 18, 2015 2:44 PM - PeterkSharma: so is the 1700 just the hot end?
    Aug 18, 2015 2:45 PM - Mike Kelly: yes
    Aug 18, 2015 2:45 PM - Mike Glass: what? :D
Aug 18, 2015 2:45 PM - PeterkSharma: because I am trying to 3d print vacuum tubes. and that looks like an interesting option
Aug 18, 2015 2:46 PM - Mike Glass: well if they are looking for investors, I may be a few years before you see a hint of it.
    Aug 18, 2015 2:47 PM - Mike Kelly: yup
Aug 18, 2015 2:47 PM - Mike Kelly: i bet they use glass sticks
Aug 18, 2015 2:47 PM - PeterkSharma: i wonder how simple-complicated the hot end is.
Aug 18, 2015 2:48 PM - PeterkSharma: yeah thats what I imagine. Just figure out the viscosity of glass at 1700
Aug 18, 2015 2:48 PM - Mike Kelly: i'd guess it's probably less complicated than you might anticipate
Aug 18, 2015 2:48 PM - Mike Glass: like they use to make glass figure's?
Aug 18, 2015 2:49 PM - PeterkSharma: Yeah I'm guessing pretty basic. Heater, and ceramic would be my guess. What would you use to tell the temp?
Aug 18, 2015 2:49 PM - Mike Kelly: thermocouples are rated to that high of temperatures
    Aug 18, 2015 2:50 PM - PeterkSharma: ah. yeah
    Aug 18, 2015 2:51 PM - PeterkSharma: I bet you could 3d print that nozzle with a ceramic :)
    Aug 18, 2015 2:53 PM - Mike Kelly: lol
Aug 18, 2015 2:53 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah you'd probably want a ceramic nozzle in that situation
Aug 18, 2015 2:53 PM - Mike Kelly: or some sort of refractory metal
Aug 18, 2015 2:53 PM - Mike Kelly: like tungsten
Aug 18, 2015 2:55 PM - Mike Glass: your hotend would be glowing thats for sure.
    Aug 18, 2015 2:55 PM - Mike Kelly: agreed
Aug 18, 2015 2:56 PM - Mike Glass: that or some kind of ark heating
Aug 18, 2015 2:57 PM - Mike Glass: what would be the use of such a device though really?
    Aug 18, 2015 2:58 PM - Mike Kelly: uh
Aug 18, 2015 2:58 PM - Mike Kelly: stuff and things
Aug 18, 2015 2:58 PM - Mike Kelly: of the glass nature
Aug 18, 2015 2:59 PM - Mike Glass: why not use regular glass?
Aug 18, 2015 2:59 PM - Mike Glass: or lexan
    Aug 18, 2015 2:59 PM - donhuevo: BSOD -> [IMG]
Aug 18, 2015 3:00 PM - Mike Glass: oh not poor squinty
Aug 18, 2015 3:00 PM - donhuevo: yep. cut down in his prime
Aug 18, 2015 3:00 PM - Mike Glass: You dont use lcd sd printing?
    Aug 18, 2015 3:00 PM - donhuevo: not in quite a while
Aug 18, 2015 3:01 PM - Mike Glass: I quit using my laptop because of wierd usb stuff every once and awhile.
    Aug 18, 2015 3:01 PM - Mike Glass: not worth a failure
Aug 18, 2015 3:01 PM - donhuevo: well, he can still hold the short pencils
Aug 18, 2015 3:01 PM - Mike Kelly: i've had too many random PC reboots, probably over temp, to not use SD most of the time
Aug 18, 2015 3:01 PM - Mike Kelly: at least anything over 2 hours
Aug 18, 2015 3:02 PM - donhuevo: this is the first print I've lost because of the pc but lesson learnt
Aug 18, 2015 3:03 PM - Mike Glass: new pc?
    Aug 18, 2015 3:03 PM - donhuevo: just over a year old
Aug 18, 2015 3:04 PM - donhuevo: I think the BSOD is related to the dying motherboard though.
Aug 18, 2015 3:04 PM - Mike Glass: hah, my laptop is 9 years old still going strong
Aug 18, 2015 3:04 PM - donhuevo: glad to hear that Vista is treating you so well
Aug 18, 2015 3:04 PM - Mike Glass: although I did pay 3K for it
Aug 18, 2015 3:04 PM - Mike Kelly: man my 10 year old laptop is painful to use
Aug 18, 2015 3:04 PM - Mike Kelly: plus XP
Aug 18, 2015 3:05 PM - Mike Glass: I put windows 8 on it, works like a charm after you disable the metro crap
Aug 18, 2015 3:05 PM - Mike Kelly: can you upgrade from XP to 10?
Aug 18, 2015 3:05 PM - Mike Kelly: maybe i can try it on there...
Aug 18, 2015 3:06 PM - Mike Glass: why would u put spying 10 on it?
    Aug 18, 2015 3:06 PM - donhuevo: the one-eyed 7 ultimate gets you 10 if xp doesn't
Aug 18, 2015 3:06 PM - Mike Kelly: haha man they're terrible at preventing piracy
Aug 18, 2015 3:08 PM - Mike Glass: did you see the new look here is another angle. [IMG]
Aug 18, 2015 3:09 PM - donhuevo: you have to love mdf

Aug 18, 2015 3:23 PM - Mike Kelly: i would kinda like something a bit more designed to purpose
Aug 18, 2015 3:23 PM - Mike Glass: I need to print something for the top of the router to hold it to the z better.
Aug 18, 2015 3:23 PM - Mike Kelly: though i don't have a lot of floor space left
Aug 18, 2015 3:23 PM - Mike Glass: make a wall mount like that one guy..lol
    Aug 18, 2015 3:24 PM - Mike Kelly: lol
Aug 18, 2015 3:24 PM - Mike Glass: I actually thought about that at first
Aug 18, 2015 3:25 PM - Mike Glass: this cement board really stiffened it up so think its fairly level without doing anything.
Aug 18, 2015 3:25 PM - Mike Kelly: cement board?
Aug 18, 2015 3:26 PM - Mike Glass: yea durock. 1/2 cement board used for tile setting.
Aug 18, 2015 3:26 PM - Mike Glass: its effin heavy as shit
Aug 18, 2015 3:26 PM - Mike Glass: I think the next table I will build totally out of cement
    Aug 18, 2015 3:27 PM - Mike Kelly: got a forklift?
Aug 18, 2015 3:28 PM - Mike Kelly: you know who hasn't been around in like forever
Aug 18, 2015 3:28 PM - Mike Glass: I would just build it like doing concrete counter tops
    Aug 18, 2015 3:28 PM - Mike Glass: SC?
    Aug 18, 2015 3:33 PM - Mike Kelly: yup
Aug 18, 2015 3:33 PM - Mike Kelly: i wonder if he got a new job

Aug 18, 2015 4:22 PM - Mike Kelly: http://i.imgur.com/rhbeYmp.gifv i wonder if anyone has come up with a 3d printable design
Aug 18, 2015 4:23 PM - Mike Kelly: man i'm pretty sure these beers like exploded and lost all their carbonation
Aug 18, 2015 4:23 PM - donhuevo: that really sucks
    Aug 18, 2015 4:24 PM - Mike Kelly: i knew i shouldn't have bought them

Aug 18, 2015 4:57 PM - donhuevo: so glad I know how to do that now
Aug 18, 2015 5:15 PM - Mike Glass: proper table edicate
    Aug 18, 2015 5:19 PM - donhuevo:
Aug 18, 2015 5:19 PM - donhuevo: not necessarily work safe
    Aug 18, 2015 5:55 PM - Mike Kelly: [IMG]
    Aug 18, 2015 5:55 PM - Mike Kelly: [IMG]
Aug 18, 2015 5:56 PM - Mike Kelly: not sure what caused the under extrusion line but it seems strong enough
Aug 18, 2015 5:57 PM - Mike Kelly: i'd probably add some ribs to reduce the material
    Aug 18, 2015 6:37 PM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
    Aug 18, 2015 6:38 PM - jbigler1986: Not dry yet
    Aug 18, 2015 7:03 PM - jbigler1986: Get you some of that
Aug 18, 2015 7:05 PM - Bigc: Hey i printed one of the x carriages how off can it be if at all because there is slight ribbing
Aug 18, 2015 7:06 PM - Mike Glass: x doesnt cause ribbing, that would be the z unless you have a loose belt.
Aug 18, 2015 7:07 PM - Mike Glass: Looks good JB
    Aug 18, 2015 7:08 PM - Bigc: I am Printing a x carriage http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:671881/#files
    Aug 18, 2015 7:10 PM - Mike Glass: you have a cyclops?
Aug 18, 2015 7:10 PM - Bigc: Not yet but that is on the list
Aug 18, 2015 7:10 PM - Mike Glass: brave soul
Aug 18, 2015 7:11 PM - Bigc: have you heard of any issues with it
Aug 18, 2015 7:12 PM - Mike Glass: I know of one person that uses it and thats the person the created the carriage.
    Aug 18, 2015 7:13 PM - PeterkSharma: does jbigler?
    Aug 18, 2015 7:13 PM - PeterkSharma: doesnt*
    Aug 18, 2015 7:13 PM - jbigler1986: Nope
    Aug 18, 2015 7:13 PM - jbigler1986: Dual v6
    Aug 18, 2015 7:13 PM - Mike Glass: dual
Aug 18, 2015 7:14 PM - Mike Glass: in 10 more days we will find out if he can get it to work..lol
Aug 18, 2015 7:15 PM - jbigler1986: Well add a few days for me to fix what is broke
Aug 18, 2015 7:15 PM - Mike Glass: oh yeah guess thats true, or even if its in one piece.
Aug 18, 2015 7:15 PM - PeterkSharma: i hear that you cant add the 4 filament extruder
Aug 18, 2015 7:15 PM - jbigler1986: It will be a damn miracle if nothing is broke
Aug 18, 2015 7:16 PM - PeterkSharma: whats going on with your set up?
Aug 18, 2015 7:16 PM - Mike Glass: Hopefully she didnt take a sledge hammer to it.
Aug 18, 2015 7:16 PM - nonmindo: Hey, for those of you who were online and were helping me with my little issue printing that eSun filament..... I reverted my frimware changes (mostly accel and bed leveling seq) and also lowered th ebed temp like you all suggested from 80c to 60c and i was able to get a pretty solid print... thanks!!
Aug 18, 2015 7:16 PM - jbigler1986: My ex wife has it hostige right now
