I was almost done with my installation until the last part. I was wiring the heater cable in and instead of ordering the clips online I decided it would be a good idea to rip the connectors out and solder the wires directly. Well that didn't work. Is there anything else I could do besides buying a new ramps board?

Edit: I forgot to mention, I have the r1 plus and on my RAMPS board D10 is not one of the screw in connectors like D9,8 and the power connector is. It's a plug in type like the thermistors, fan, etc

Well soldering the wires was still a good idea :)

Maybe I did it wrong? I don't have that much experience with wiring.
That's pretty much all that happened. Everything else works fine, the extruder just doesn't heat up. I'll get some pictures when I have a chance.

Also does negative or positive matter?

Not for most things on the hotend itself. The only things down there are the heater core (a fancy resistor that generates heat) and the thermistor (a fancy resistor that is used to sense heat) neither of which care about polarity.

    For the other electronics... Yes.

If it is not putting out voltage on the connector (whichever one it is on that RAMPS) to drive the extruder heater core then likely it is a dead MOSFET on that channel (Q1, Q2 or Q3).

You can swap that component or the RAMPS board itself (although unless you get a replacement board from Robo a generic RAMPS will be slightly different on the connector side). Read the voltage on the connector to the heater core and if it is not putting out any power it is the RAMPS side. If it is putting out power then the heater core itself could be bad.

if you have a multimete, check the tension between the cables. if you do not have one take a 12v fan and connect it on parallel with the heater cartridge.

if there is tension (the fan spin) then you most likely killed your heater catridge.
if there is no tension, (the fan do not spin),

But a multimeter doesn't measure tension, although both may be technically correct. Tension is typically only used in high-voltage, low amperage situations, which is not the case here.

    You did ask!

It should be noted the R1+ ramps board has D10 and D9 flipped. D10 is now the fan pin (pin 9) and D9 is now the heater pin (pin 10)

why they decided to do this is by me
