Unfortunatly i had some sort of vibration issue and crashed on the maiden flight and broke every part exept for the arms. I'm re-printing now.

Nice. We have printed several. They are a hoot.
Expensive still for good components, but easy to repair :)

Yea the electronics get ya :)

Still its fun to have a 3d printed quad...even though its probably a lot less hassle to just go buy a Carbon fiber frame on ebay or something lol.

Very jealous. Do you happen to know how much you've spent on it so far?

I've been wrestling with the idea of making one but how much did all the electronics and motors run?

@jtn7040 Even if you don't buy anything from them, go to Hobbyking.com and look at all the parts and kits they have. I own several carbon framed multi-rotor and helicopter models, they all range in price from under $70 to over $800, not counting the radio equipment. Hobbyking will give you a good idea of the cost of individual parts. There is also a swarm site for Hobbyking that will pop up discounts for various items based on what others have purchased. http://rcsearch.info/hobbyking/buddy/

This Hovership was fully printed on my Robo. It has APM hardfware/firmware, telemetry and video link with On Screen Display. GoPro sits up front.

There is a massive support community where you can learn how to set up all the components.

shows all the parts I used.

    Lets see other than plastic.
    Flight Controller: $25
    Motors x4: $17.23 x 4 = $68.92
    ESC x4: $10.40 x 4 = $41.60
    programming card: $7.55
    receiver: $11.44
    Battery: $13.75
Props: $3.19 ( though I broke them all already and bought a 12 pack on amazon for not much )

    Total: $171.45

Not including my Spektrum DX7S Radio ( already had it ) or the plastic used for printing..or various solder and other random stuff like shrink wrap, wires, bullet connectors..etc.

I think i have enough spare junk laying around to make a second one. I just need some more ESC's

ZTW Spyder ESCs can be had from Banggood real cheap. They also support BLHeli, which is probably one of the best ESC firmwares out there. Last time I needed 30A ESC, I bought 10 of them, still have two left.

Hobbyking sells some cheap ones if you don't need anything fancy.

I would get one of these but they never have it in the USA wearhouses..so shipping sucks.
    http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...10_Model_Memory_and_3_Pos_Switch_Mode_2_.html

They also sell some other ones that are not "Spektrum" check out their turnigy and frysky ones..would need matching receiver. here is one with a receiver http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=19673

Get Mode 2... throttle and rudder on left stick.. I don't know anyone that uses mode 1. probably some backwards UK people or aussies? lol I don't know.

You can probably find a spektrum DX6i used pretty cheap. they have a new DX6 black that is waaaaaaaay nicer. so I would imagine the older DX6i could be found used cheap. I think I sold my old DX6i a couple years ago for like $80 and that was well before the new model.

I haven't got into it enough to ever care about BLHeli or SImonK.. i just run whatever comes on the ESC's and they work fine.

I normally fly 3D hellicopters.. im just screwing around with quads for the heck of it.. I hate how quadcopters fly and their symmetrical presence makes it hard as heck for me to tell what they are doing or the direction they are facing even with bright colors and lights..I still get confused. if im in "agility" mode or whatever. The modes that auto level drive me nuts feel like im fighting it constantly.
