I just bought the Robo 3D R! with the heated bed at the maker faire. I installed the software and followed the steps in the software and the startup video but I can not get my Robo 3D to connect to my computer. When I click the connect it says :Status Unable to connect - Unavailable. When I go into the connect to printer Windows it says there are No COM Ports available. In the printers and devoices window in Windows 7 it shows the printer as an Unknown device and says there are no drivers installed even though I did install the driver. Any suggestions on how I can get the printer to connect to my computer?

When you installed MatterControl did you tell it to install the drivers?

    Uninstall, restart, reinstall.

    Try a different USB cable.

I have tried that several times with multiple combinations of the printer being off, unattached, on, attached and had no luck.

If you're seeing it on your computer as an unrecognized device it's a problem with your computers software. You'll need to troubleshoot all aspects of the software.

Does your board light up when you connect it to USB? If your arduino isn't being seen at all then it's a different issue.

By board do you mean the red robotale board that the USB plugs into? I see LED 1-4 on the board. non of them are illuminated when I plug the USB in or take the USB out.

There's 2 boards on the Robo. The first board that the USB cable plugs into is the Arduino board. This is the brains and controls behind the printer.

The next is the RAMPS1.4 board.

The Arduino board should have a couple Green led's that light up when you plug in the USB cable. This green light means it's working. It might be hard to tell. Generally looking through the USB hole is the easiest way to see these lights.

I had an instance where I had plugged a cable into my ramps board wrong and nothing powered up. If there's a short on your 5v on your ramps it might be doing this as well.

If you run out of options you can unscrew the ramps/arduino board from the case, then pull the arduino off the ramps. Then try plugging the arduino into the usb port. If it still doesn't light green then you have a bad arduino. I've never heard of one failing on any robo so this would be a first.

If you using matter control make sure you follow the instructions to a t. I was having the same issue. It will first install the driver then it tells you to disconnet the printer if it is not already an hit continue. Then plug the printer back in and hit connect.

I think what solve it was installing the Arduino drivers first and then going through the printer connecting process.

go to start menu, right click on computer, click manage, on the left part of the window click device manager. See if it says "Unknown device" in the list. If there's no unknown device look for a "Ports (Com & LPT)" see if there's a USB Serial port

You might need to uninstall and reinstall the driver for it to work correctly.
