    OK., I need a refresher. Getting ready to do a first print, did the Auto PID already, but, knowing there is a difference in the V6 and V5 versions, my Z needs adjustment.

    I have it a shot by homing but find I cannot get a sheet of paper under that nozzle. I forget if that is right or wrong. I noted nothing in the write ups a bout adjusting Z. Could have missed it I guess.

    There are a lot of posts about Z offset :)

    Startup GCode:

    G28;
    M565 Z-1.0;
    G29;

    Adjust the M565 as needed. 1.0 mm is just a starting point.

    I was really worried about the mechanical differences and destroying the nozzle or bed but I guess that is unlikely as the carriage will just "sit on" the bed as it drives down.

    I guess the "bed leveling" is what I need to look at, to set the initial mechanical gap. I seem to recall having to do that early on, but don't recall and cannot find how to do it.

    I'll work on it after a break. Or two.

    The way they did the autoleveling on the R1 the nozzle is the probe so the detection of Z home is the nozzle ... no offset to worry about.
    There are downsides to this one example is if you have a bed that a not nozzle will damage ... In that case you want to do the autoleveling before the nozzle heats and that complicates the startup GCode

    and by "no offset to worry about" I mean that changing the size of the hotend doesn't affect it in any way :)

    Yea, the R1 is :) But not all of them are (C2 and R2 are not) and some folks have used PEI to cover their bed for increased adhesion.
    Just sayin' if you have a bed you don't torched you have to do a cold probe then heat the nozzle.

    Does not seem to be having desired effect. From Z "home" I have to go +Z a few tenths of a mm to get a sheet of paper under the nozzle.

    It does not seem to matter what Z offset I put in, after I Z home, the nozzle is still in contact with the bed.

    I guess I was laboring under the delusion that Z offset would be reflected in the distance the nozzle is off the bed when "home". Apparently that is not so.

    So the proper thing now might be to set offset back to the default Robo R1 setting and do test prints?

    Correct. The Z offset (when you use the M565) is only applied to the calculated flat plane the autoleveling generates. It does not affect HOME. It affects the G29 inputs ...
