I recently got an issue where there are holes in my print. Is this due to not enough filament being deposited or something'else?

Here is a test print of round holes. Notice the holes throughout and I ain't talking g about the round ones!!!

    PLA - stock Robo3D

Yes, under extrusion of the top layers at any rate. Either check your extrusion % and/or increase the number of top/bottom layers...

It does look a little hot doesn't it? Almost like the layers that did go on top were a little saggy.

Mostly what the other guys said, but it also looks like you might have too many perimeters for the design.
With all those perimeters, you've probably got a lot of places where the top infill is just being deposited over open space.
If the design can handle it, try dropping to 2-3 perimeters. If you have simplify3d, try turning on the auto extrusion width. This might also be a good use for slic3r's infill only where needed option.

    I tried 100 infill and 40
I was using Repetier and Cura. Same issue..
    Top bottom 2.4

    I increased
    From 195
    To 210
    When it started happening

    Most likely too hot.

Also possibly under extrusion after a retraction

I think I have a feed problem. Is this due to a bad bolt or not enough heat allowing the filament to ooze out?
    ImageUploadedByTapatalk1421606368.507841.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1421606383.413891.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1421606395.669218.jpg

When I print sometimes the filament will stop oozing out and I think I have a jam in heated head but when I push the filament by hand it does goes thru but jams after a while. I have to remove the jam, notice the pics, and then re-feed a new piece. Can't finish a print lately.

Very confusing as to the problem. I rechecked bed to hot end height and also 195 with my PLA. Any ideas what to check next?

    Add an oiler.

I was having that issue, cleaned the bolt as it was filled with plastic. how tight are your screws that hold the bearing?

I still don't get the whole oiler deal, you think it would be more likely to slip more. but I use mostly ABS.

My screws holding the filament are tight. Should they be?

Here is my latest attempt. Once I am this far it seems to finish. Hopefully not full of holes. I turned down my temp to 195 PLA

The oiler seems to oil everything and I thought that is why my filament was slipping. I took it off. The problem was recent when I added an oiler. Hmm? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1421608122.851839.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1421608161.280052.jpg

Are you still using the J-hed hotend? That's a lot of melt zone at the end

Did you take the PTFE tube out? That's really important.

Didn't have one. 2nd generation j head. I asked and Robo3d support told me mine doesn't have PTFE tube.

Then you should read up on it.
PLA is like a sugar. When heated it gets sticky and likes to stick to the inside of the metal hotends.

The oil has nothing to do with nor impacts the hobb in any way. It treats the inside of the hotend and maintains a finish to the surface that the PLA will not stick to.

Looks like he is getting sticking. I had those exact same symptoms...

However, he is using a J-head so he may not have the same issues, but it will never hurt to try an oiler. There are no downsides.
