I think those J-head have a limited lifespan. Seems like it's a nozzle issue.

I'd suggest cleaning it with a brass bristle brush or a guitar string.

It's not oozing is it? Might be worth taking apart as well.

I'm not sure really. An oiler usually fixes it

For some reason I had it in my mind that @Peter Krska had upgraded to an all-metal unit a while back, but no apparently not.
Might not be a bad time to consider it ;)

Thanks Mark, will keep that in mind, I do suppose it will keep your filament clean as well.

If you do a full-on oiler with sponges, yea it cleans it as well as adding a fine coating of oil.
I have left it on for everything else (ABS, PET, Nylon, etc.) and it doesn't hurt any of them.

I didn't think it would work on abs, just cooking oil then? or olive?

canola oil is generally the best option. Vegatable, peanut, or avacado are also good.

Works fine with all materials. Less important with ABS because it's a petroleum based filament so it doesn't degrade quite as quickly as PLA

I've been using an oiler. That's when the issue appeared.
I also changed my thermistor recently and cleaned the hot end as well.

Might be time for an upgrade. Could be a piece of gunk jamming your nozzle.

If an oiler doesn't fix it it's most likely something physical

Support told me it isn't an easy change to the new all metal. Is the ED3 head an easier upgrade?

What the hell? Who told you that? Brian?

It's an easy upgrade. Especially the e3d v6

I have the new R1 that comes with the all metal, but from what I was reading about e3dv6, it's a pretty easy install.

Horse pucky. It is really not that difficult.
You need to pay attention to what you are doing, but that is no different than 3d printing in general.

This us what I was dredging, here is the reply

    Hi Peter,

I just want to make sure you know that to install the all metal hotend you are going to have to rewire the entire hotend wires and add wires for the fan that is required for the all metal style hotend. I don’t have instructions for you on how to install this but it’s basically like the E3D installation instructions which you can find on our forums. Please confirm with me that you would like to do this installation

So which direction would be best, all metal or the ED3?

So I took your advise guys and lowered the temp. I had to readjust my height also. I think the filament was getting stuck from too much back pressure and resulting in a thick filament piece that couldn't get through afterwards.
Here is.ma sample of the issue

I managed to fix the height but still could be better as this has shot shows some issues

But my print is currently continuing for the first time a while.
PLA 195 seems to be the sweet spot..

Thanks again for the tips. I will consider upgrading the hot end one day.
I've been printing everyday for 10 months and Mike's right, the head must be wearing out by now. I've already replaced the bed heat pad and the thermistor and a threaded z axis rod. And she"s still going strong!

    I love my Robo3D printer

Running an extra pair of (small gauge) wires for the fan is not a big deal, but pulling apart the wire loom wrap and re-wrapping it is a pain.

Here is the finished print. Notice the extra hanging threads. Is this a slicing issue? Seem to happen only on the fingers and is pointing up

the fine stringing is usually a symptom of PLA (or ABS) run a bit too hot, but I have not seen the heavier hanging threads you have there.
I would probably want to blame those on the slicer. Do you see them in the model preview?
