    Dec 20, 2017 4:40 AM - JeffTheMess: morning robonauts
Dec 20, 2017 5:18 AM - Geof: Guru- I dont think I would personally do that but I did see your thread on it. Remember the torque of the motor is quite strong. May want to keep an eye on the mounting point of your case. Typically injection molded parts arnt super strong in areas that serve little to no wear
Dec 20, 2017 7:29 AM - WheresWaldo: Maybe a metal plate that crosses two screw holes behind the motor would strengthen the area OSG is using?
Dec 20, 2017 7:34 AM - Geof: yes. something 2x the surface area of the printed part would be where I would feel safe.
Dec 20, 2017 7:34 AM - Geof: the retraction/extrusion dance is quite intense if you watch it and its not mounted on a very stable area

    Dec 21, 2017 5:19 AM - WheresWaldo: Morning Geof
Dec 21, 2017 5:22 AM - Geof: Good morning Waldo. How you feelin bud?
Dec 21, 2017 5:25 AM - WheresWaldo: Better, down to one Hydrocodone pill a day, taken just before bedtime. Rest of the day I can manage with Aspirin and Ibuprophen.
Dec 21, 2017 5:34 AM - WheresWaldo: I found an odd issue, if you use M206 so set home offset and do not change it in Utilities>>Options>>EEPROM, it resets to whatever value was set the last time in the wizard or in the EEPROM settings.
Dec 21, 2017 5:35 AM - WheresWaldo: It is a dumb way to code, RoboLCD appears to be saving the state and not reading the state of EEPROM variables.
Dec 21, 2017 5:36 AM - WheresWaldo: Saving then rewriting opposed to reading and storing.
Dec 21, 2017 5:36 AM - Geof: thats nifty. Is that robo firmware of yours or both?
Dec 21, 2017 5:36 AM - WheresWaldo: Bad programming overall, Firmware doesn't matter. it is a RoboLCD quirk
Dec 21, 2017 5:38 AM - WheresWaldo: I have told them many times to stop f*!@ing with Marlin, stripping out code that never gets compiled and spend more time on the LCD. That is what people see, that is the Experience not what is in the firmware.
Dec 21, 2017 5:39 AM - WheresWaldo: Nothing they have done to butcher the firmware has made even a single percent of difference in how the printer prints.
Dec 21, 2017 5:40 AM - WheresWaldo: At the very least they didn't make it print worse.
Dec 21, 2017 5:49 AM - Geof: lol maybe that was the goal ;)
Dec 21, 2017 5:50 AM - Geof: I keep forgetting the TS is its own beast lol!
Dec 21, 2017 5:50 AM - Geof: I picked up a C2, should be here next week sometime, will be neat to look at the differences between the two machines
Dec 21, 2017 5:52 AM - WheresWaldo: Mechanically identical, firware differences are minimal, mostly related to voltage differences.
Dec 21, 2017 5:52 AM - WheresWaldo: Same rPi running identical software
Dec 21, 2017 5:52 AM - WheresWaldo: Exception is video driver.
Dec 21, 2017 5:56 AM - WheresWaldo: You'll have fun with it. If it is quieter than the R2 it could possibly sit in a den, it is pretty, after all. Mark can tell you that.
Dec 21, 2017 6:06 AM - Geof: lol more so picked up for a local school. They are looking for printers so have the dagoma, C2 and a few others. All simple printers, no heatbed etc etc. Supposedly all easy to use. Will let them try them all and see what they like.
Dec 21, 2017 6:13 AM - WheresWaldo: Great idea, Schools need easy to use and reliability. Good that the local school has people like yourself.
Dec 21, 2017 6:17 AM - Geof: tons of local schools.
Dec 21, 2017 6:17 AM - Geof: Bloomington and Normal are literally connected so 2 totally seperate school districts plus private schools then colleges (3 or 4 of them lol)
Dec 21, 2017 6:22 AM - Geof: I figure if nothing else the R2 and C2 will look cute next to the R1+ machines LOL
    Dec 21, 2017 6:28 AM - WheresWaldo: :) \,,/(^_^)\,,/
    Dec 21, 2017 6:28 AM - Geof: lol :D
Dec 21, 2017 6:29 AM - Geof: Right now for small cold and cheap machines I've got the startt (100 bucks), two Nevas (400) then the C2 (700?) then it steps up to full fledged machines
Dec 21, 2017 6:29 AM - Geof: I figure thats probably just fine for "assortment" lol
Dec 21, 2017 6:32 AM - WheresWaldo: That is quite an assortment, What is your experience with the Neva now that youu've had more time with it?
Dec 21, 2017 6:33 AM - Geof: I had a broken one that was suppose to be exchanged. They sent a new one but no label and they wont answer how to ship it lol.
Dec 21, 2017 6:33 AM - Geof: So wrote up a S3D profile and have both machines running :D
Dec 21, 2017 6:34 AM - Geof: Its not great but stupid simple to run lol.
Dec 21, 2017 6:34 AM - Geof: I have them printing lithophanes (or trying to) so I can see how bad having only one fan hurts the machine.
Dec 21, 2017 6:35 AM - WheresWaldo: So mhealth82 looks like his print is very underextruded. The raft looks good though.
Dec 21, 2017 6:35 AM - Geof: They have a coldend fan that blows across the cold end but is then ducted down to the part as a part cooler (will be modifying one of them)
Dec 21, 2017 6:35 AM - Geof: I think the raft is fine but the first layer is way to high.
Dec 21, 2017 6:35 AM - WheresWaldo: Saves money with only one fan.
Dec 21, 2017 6:35 AM - Geof: either his offset distance is way high or his initial z offset is bonkers
Dec 21, 2017 6:35 AM - Geof: true but have wierd lookin overhands when you cool with warm air lol
Dec 21, 2017 6:36 AM - WheresWaldo: Z_Offset should affect layer 1 of raft not the first layer of the print on a raft.
Dec 21, 2017 6:37 AM - WheresWaldo: Too many gaps so I think it might be too high a layer size. Some people equate nozzle size with layer height.
Dec 21, 2017 6:40 AM - Geof: very true. I'm guessing if he removes the raft the Z isnt' going to be correct (just a hunch) and the raft picture is likely something crazy like .4 sep distance or somethign crazy.
Dec 21, 2017 6:40 AM - Geof: I saw a profile floating around somewhere where the sep distance was laughable like .8 lol
Dec 21, 2017 6:42 AM - WheresWaldo: So, I switched to a 0.5 mm nozzle and so far so good, using a Micro Swiss plated nozzle at the moment.
    Dec 21, 2017 6:45 AM - Geof: why microswiss?
Dec 21, 2017 6:45 AM - WheresWaldo: The extrude is very even and much glossier than the 0.4 mm cheap Chinese nozzle I was using.
Dec 21, 2017 6:45 AM - Geof: I have a few of their things layin around but never really heard of them until recently lol
Dec 21, 2017 6:46 AM - Geof: oh gotya! You order them cheapo nozzles I sent ya? They print like the real deal as far as I can tell
Dec 21, 2017 6:46 AM - Geof: Will ahve to check out the microswiss next amazon order
Dec 21, 2017 6:47 AM - WheresWaldo: Not the hardened one, and my mistake 0.6 mm https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BDL4P2S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Dec 21, 2017 6:47 AM - WheresWaldo: I ordered a bigger lot from Aliexpress, brass is brass.
    Dec 21, 2017 6:48 AM - Geof: ah gotya.
Dec 21, 2017 6:48 AM - WheresWaldo: I pretty much toss them after a month of use.
Dec 21, 2017 6:48 AM - WheresWaldo: So never needed to go fancy for filled filament, they never wear enough.
Dec 21, 2017 6:53 AM - Geof: True. I still treat the nozzles like their gold lol. No abrasives in brass (unless I'm up against a tight deadline)
Dec 21, 2017 6:54 AM - Geof: abrasives go on the original R1+ and the MK2
Dec 21, 2017 6:54 AM - Geof: Ultimaker is the exception, it gets switched around every few hours lol
Dec 21, 2017 7:01 AM - WheresWaldo: Did you upgrade the UM to the swapable nozzles?
    Dec 21, 2017 7:02 AM - Geof: I have the 2+ extended. Just uses standard 3mm E3D nozzles
Dec 21, 2017 7:03 AM - Geof: its got the olson block factory.
    Dec 21, 2017 7:03 AM - Geof: the UMO...yea...no nozzle swaps lol
Dec 21, 2017 7:07 AM - WheresWaldo: I was just looking over my R2 print history and I have a 47% print failure rate.  :D
Dec 21, 2017 7:11 AM - Geof: Mine is right around that as well lol. Day one of promethius being installed is all tuning so thats not helping lol
Dec 21, 2017 7:15 AM - WheresWaldo: That is my problem, too much testing, I start a print and 5 layers in I abort it.
Dec 21, 2017 7:15 AM - WheresWaldo: I do have stretches of days without a single failed print, then a day with 10 fails/aborts and no full prints.
Dec 21, 2017 7:19 AM - Geof: yep. I also have a ton of "It broke, how can I get around it" lol
Dec 21, 2017 7:19 AM - Geof: I think my R2 has been down 3 or 4 times now lol
Dec 21, 2017 7:23 AM - WheresWaldo: My downs are usually self inflicted when doing firmware testing.
Dec 21, 2017 7:27 AM - Geof: lol mine are just running the machine more than most lol.
Dec 21, 2017 7:27 AM - Geof: hard breaks lol
Dec 21, 2017 8:52 AM - WheresWaldo: So a bunch more fails, trying to dial in the 0.6 mm nozzle, the amount of backpressure is lessened so much my retraction and restart are actually messing up my prints. trying to figure out what numbers to use. Got any suggestions?
Dec 21, 2017 8:57 AM - Geof: I dont usually print with a .6, I tend to jump to .8 and dont have to change anything other than print speed lol
Dec 21, 2017 9:02 AM - WheresWaldo: What's happeneing is that for zit prevention at the start of a line I have retraction and then a negative restart and that is messing with the first part of the layer, I end up with a void on this particular model.
Dec 21, 2017 9:03 AM - WheresWaldo: I might just temporarily disable retraction for this model all together.
    Dec 21, 2017 9:03 AM - Geof: I dont use negative retraction :D
Dec 21, 2017 9:03 AM - Geof: just a straight retraction. The bigger the layer the more noticable but .6 with .2 layers and you wont see much difference.
Dec 21, 2017 9:04 AM - Geof: the negative seems to jack with larger nozzles (and even .4 on some models)
    Dec 21, 2017 9:04 AM - Geof: sometimes I use coast with a .8 or 1.0
Dec 21, 2017 9:04 AM - Geof: but not very often
Dec 21, 2017 9:05 AM - WheresWaldo: It's not negative retraction, it is negative restart, so if your retraction is 1 mm and your restart is -0.2 it will onoly advance 0.8 mm on the start of the next line.
    Dec 21, 2017 9:06 AM - WheresWaldo: Don't you read all the settings in S3D? :p
Dec 21, 2017 9:06 AM - Geof: lol yes mistyped in a hurry.
Dec 21, 2017 9:06 AM - Geof: the only two settings I use if standard retraction no additional settings, just length and speed
Dec 21, 2017 9:07 AM - Geof: if the model has zits with large bore I tune in a coast.
Dec 21, 2017 9:07 AM - WheresWaldo: Yeah coast works for the end of a line, restart for the beginning.
Dec 21, 2017 9:07 AM - Geof: ah I get what your saying
Dec 21, 2017 9:07 AM - Geof: misunderstood sorry. Havent had issues with the start of the line unless I'm printing to fast or to cold.
Dec 21, 2017 9:07 AM - WheresWaldo: Two different problems with the same visual results, but two different fixes.
    Dec 21, 2017 9:08 AM - Geof: indeed.
Dec 21, 2017 9:08 AM - Geof: you can try bumping your temp a few degrees with changing nothing else.
Dec 21, 2017 9:09 AM - WheresWaldo: I'm going to take a break, have lunch & take some drugs instead.
Dec 21, 2017 9:09 AM - Geof: the .8 nozzle if I dont drop speed to half normal (30 mm/s) I have to bump temp 5-10 degrees
    Dec 21, 2017 9:09 AM - Geof: thats a fair idea as well D:
Dec 21, 2017 9:11 AM - WheresWaldo: I put in a support ticket, hoping Robo will send me the PDF of the Downtown/Uptown adapter boards. Want to get a definitive answer on the connectors used. Tired of guessing.
Dec 21, 2017 9:12 AM - WheresWaldo: I thought the heater was JST-XH but it isn't. Why they didn't use more common connectors baffles me.
Dec 21, 2017 9:18 AM - Geof: yea the heater connector didn't workf or me so I just reused the old one
    Dec 21, 2017 9:18 AM - Geof: work for***
Dec 21, 2017 9:18 AM - Geof: I asked Jerry but havent heard back yet
Dec 21, 2017 9:18 AM - Geof: the heater is ran seperately down to the board from the ribbon, thinking about removing that board connector for the heater all togather :D
Dec 21, 2017 9:19 AM - Geof: just run the wires to the uptown board
Dec 21, 2017 9:33 AM - WheresWaldo: I only think it was done this way to make attaching a second hotend easier, no snaking of wires to the uptown adapter board.

Dec 21, 2017 9:33 AM - WheresWaldo: Connecting a second hotend is more a marketing checkbox than something really workable.
Dec 21, 2017 9:34 AM - WheresWaldo: Okay lunch is done, now its time to drug up.
Dec 21, 2017 9:35 AM - Geof: Not real sure, I'd imagine they arnt going to do just a standard 2 hotend one mount thing.
Dec 21, 2017 9:36 AM - WheresWaldo: Two hotends is how it is manufactured
    Dec 21, 2017 9:36 AM - WheresWaldo: And wired.
Dec 21, 2017 9:53 AM - Geof: I dont think the mount is staying :D
Dec 21, 2017 10:04 AM - WheresWaldo: Then you know something we don't. but don't forget Robo doesn't retrofit as a policy, so first round owners are stuck with what they have.
Dec 21, 2017 10:04 AM - WheresWaldo: I was specifically stated that policy from their tech support, and I have it in writing, via email.
Dec 21, 2017 10:07 AM - WheresWaldo: Back to intentially starting more failed print jobs. Up to 48% now.
Dec 21, 2017 10:42 AM - Geof: yea I dont think that policy will go over very well :D lol
    Dec 21, 2017 10:42 AM - Geof: I would be livid
Dec 21, 2017 10:53 AM - WheresWaldo: When I feel better I am going to take apart the Extruder and build me a new one. Without all the stupid parts.
Dec 21, 2017 10:54 AM - Geof: it would be fairly simple to print a cap and use a titan
    Dec 21, 2017 10:55 AM - Geof: (direct drive titan I mean)
    Dec 21, 2017 10:55 AM - WheresWaldo: I have a titan, that might work
Dec 21, 2017 10:55 AM - Geof: or i suppose if you have no interest in dual extruder upgrade you can use the mounting point for the bowden as the titans mount, print a flat cap that bolts to the bottom and BAM bowden titan lol
Dec 21, 2017 10:57 AM - WheresWaldo: No experience with Bowden, don't think I want to take the time to learn it either.
Dec 21, 2017 10:57 AM - WheresWaldo: Besides moving the hotend to the other side means losing build volume on the left side of the bed.
Dec 21, 2017 10:59 AM - Geof: I'd leave the hotend where its at.
    Dec 21, 2017 10:59 AM - Geof: either situation
Dec 21, 2017 10:59 AM - Geof: bowden is pretty easy, adjust retraction a bit. The titan is snappy, isn't much to tune it in
Dec 21, 2017 11:00 AM - Geof: only down side is the bowden waste (IMO) I've even had no troubles running ninjaflex on a titan bowden :D
Dec 21, 2017 11:22 AM - Geof: Hey to Braydon and Jerry
Dec 21, 2017 11:32 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: does anyone know who Daniel871 is
    Dec 21, 2017 11:33 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: hey Geof!
    Dec 21, 2017 11:33 AM - Geof: Yes
    Dec 21, 2017 11:33 AM - Geof: How doin
Dec 21, 2017 11:33 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: like his actual name
Dec 21, 2017 11:33 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: can you message me it
    Dec 21, 2017 11:33 AM - WheresWaldo: Daniel Turner
Dec 21, 2017 11:33 AM - Geof: Waldo beat me to it lol
Dec 21, 2017 11:33 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: I am doing well. Just piling in some work before the holidays
    Dec 21, 2017 11:34 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: haha thanks Waldo!
    Dec 21, 2017 11:34 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: what about danzca
Dec 21, 2017 11:34 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: Sending you all something actually
    Dec 21, 2017 11:34 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: which is why I'm asking :)
    Dec 21, 2017 11:35 AM - WheresWaldo: Danzca I don't know, he is a good guy.
Dec 21, 2017 11:35 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: You all are awesome
Dec 21, 2017 11:35 AM - Geof: I sent Danzca a message. Will get back to you.
Dec 21, 2017 11:35 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: cool cool yeah I shot him a message too
Dec 21, 2017 11:35 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: any fun plans for the holidays?
Dec 21, 2017 11:36 AM - Geof: cleanin the home shop still :D
Dec 21, 2017 11:37 AM - WheresWaldo: Braydon sent you a PM added Geof to it.
    Dec 21, 2017 11:37 AM - Geof: saw that ;)
    Dec 21, 2017 11:40 AM - Braydon ROBO 3D: I saw it thanks
Dec 21, 2017 11:41 AM - Geof: Any big plans for you this holiday Braydon
Dec 21, 2017 11:50 AM - Geof: Waldo promethius is rockin some decent lookin prints today
    Dec 21, 2017 11:51 AM - WheresWaldo: Pictures or it didn't happen
Dec 21, 2017 11:52 AM - Geof: I forgot your not on twitter lol!
Dec 21, 2017 11:53 AM - WheresWaldo: I'm an old fart, don't know nothin bout no birds.
Dec 21, 2017 11:55 AM - Geof: lol ! :D I thought all the older guys fed birds! Dont tell me dont know nothin bout no birds LOL!
Dec 21, 2017 11:56 AM - WheresWaldo: Yeah, feed birds before dinner at 4:00 at Hometown Buffet.
    Dec 21, 2017 11:56 AM - danzca6: What's going on in here...you guys causing trouble?
    Dec 21, 2017 11:56 AM - danzca6: hahaha
Dec 21, 2017 11:57 AM - WheresWaldo: Geof is making fun of my old age ;)
    Dec 21, 2017 11:59 AM - Geof: only sometimes !
    Dec 21, 2017 11:59 AM - Geof: :D
    Dec 21, 2017 12:00 PM - Geof: Braydon, Danzca is here :D
Dec 21, 2017 12:02 PM - danzca6: haha....How are you feeling WW? I hope everything went well and you are recovering ok
Dec 21, 2017 12:02 PM - WheresWaldo: More unhappy than feeling bad, the PA insisted I go home with a foley. Pissed me off, no pun intended.
    Dec 21, 2017 12:03 PM - danzca6: eek...that's no fun
Dec 21, 2017 12:03 PM - danzca6: hopefully that can be taken out soon
Dec 21, 2017 12:06 PM - WheresWaldo: I plan on pulling it out myself in a few days. As soon as I am done with the anti-biotics. Otherwise surgery went well, 1 hour shorter than the surgeon expected.
Dec 21, 2017 12:07 PM - Geof: eeek to the first part! 2nd part is good.
Dec 21, 2017 12:07 PM - WheresWaldo: It is what it is. I am not going out with this thing on.
Dec 21, 2017 12:07 PM - Geof: Dont blame ya man
Dec 21, 2017 12:08 PM - danzca6: not exactly the latest fashion that's for sure
Dec 21, 2017 12:08 PM - Geof: Then again! How convenient for the bar! :D
    Dec 21, 2017 12:08 PM - Geof: they'd be all like "he hasn't moved since 12:00" lol
Dec 21, 2017 12:10 PM - WheresWaldo: I can now sit for 12 hours solid playing Wolfenstein II without getting up.
    Dec 21, 2017 12:10 PM - Geof: See! Not all bad :D !
Dec 21, 2017 12:10 PM - danzca6: how do you like Wolfenstein II? I haven't made it all the way through the first
Dec 21, 2017 12:11 PM - WheresWaldo: Loved it, playing through a second time now. But I want to load it on the XB1X because I want to see it in 4K.
Dec 21, 2017 12:14 PM - danzca6: you got the X? I'll have to wait a year or so before I can afford to upgrade out XB1
    Dec 21, 2017 12:14 PM - danzca6: Some of the 4K I've seen looks really good
    Dec 21, 2017 12:18 PM - WheresWaldo: Yeah, BB ran a special for employees together with MS a 1X, + 1 yr Gold + 3 mo play pass @ $100 off
Dec 21, 2017 12:19 PM - Geof: nice! Still just a One for me as well Danz dont feel bad.
    Dec 21, 2017 12:19 PM - Geof: Our TV couldn't do 4K anyway lol
Dec 21, 2017 12:19 PM - danzca6: nice...my son gets to play far more than I do these days. I'm just waiting for him to start asking to upgrade
    Dec 21, 2017 12:19 PM - danzca6: 4K tv's have really come down
Dec 21, 2017 12:20 PM - Geof: they have but you know me :D I buy to much gadgets as it is. And you know the lady lol
Dec 21, 2017 12:20 PM - danzca6: yeah...I normally buy when the tech is on its way out the door and they're practically giving it away
    Dec 21, 2017 12:21 PM - WheresWaldo: We now have 2 4K TVs and one 4K monitor
Dec 21, 2017 12:21 PM - Geof: Waldo...it sounds like you've just got to much, Danz will take some of it ;)
Dec 21, 2017 12:22 PM - WheresWaldo: We needed a new TV, had a 40" 6 yr old Samsung that the speakers rattled, so we got a 43" 4K LG and it fits in the same spot as the old 40:
Dec 21, 2017 12:24 PM - danzca6: I just got rid of my last tube TV (Sony Wega) last year...not that thing was old...and weighed the same as a tank
Dec 21, 2017 12:24 PM - Geof: oh wow! Thats pretty crazy. We have a plasma in the living room from when those first came out lol.
Dec 21, 2017 12:24 PM - WheresWaldo: Daughter bought a Open Box 49" Samsung 4K and is using it as a combination TV and PC Monitor.
    Dec 21, 2017 12:24 PM - danzca6: plasmas make a good space heater
    Dec 21, 2017 12:24 PM - Geof: then a 32 led and a 42 led in the printroom/bedroom
Dec 21, 2017 12:24 PM - Geof: lol yes yes they do!
Dec 21, 2017 12:25 PM - WheresWaldo: I use a 43" 4K monitor, replaced two Dell 2408 monitors that were at least 10 years old.
Dec 21, 2017 12:26 PM - WheresWaldo: Danz I just got rid of my old Sony Trinatron 16" monitor, it was so old it had BNC connectors on the back.
Dec 21, 2017 12:27 PM - Geof: LMAO old tech!
    Dec 21, 2017 12:27 PM - Geof: @mark tomlinson hows goin buddy
    Dec 21, 2017 12:32 PM - danzca6: yep...you win on that one Geof
    Dec 21, 2017 12:34 PM - Geof: Which one?
    Dec 21, 2017 12:34 PM - danzca6: Oh wait...that was WW...sorry
Dec 21, 2017 12:35 PM - Geof: lol :D I was gonna say I dont win, thats not my style :D
Dec 21, 2017 12:47 PM - daniel871: Hm. Braydon posted a message on my profile that sounds kind of spammy. Anybody else get one?

    Dec 21, 2017 1:05 PM - WheresWaldo: [IMG]
    Dec 21, 2017 1:20 PM - danzca6: yeah daniel I got it as well.
Dec 21, 2017 1:20 PM - danzca6: I asked if it there going to a burning brown bag on my doorstop in my future :)
Dec 21, 2017 1:23 PM - daniel871: I just replied with "It's probably better to ask for that information in a PM than on a publicly viewable page.
Dec 21, 2017 1:23 PM - daniel871: I left the sarcasm about them already knowing my name out of it other than my comment about it in this Shoutbox above.
Dec 21, 2017 1:35 PM - WheresWaldo: Dan, I was the one that posted it, wasn't thinking about it being better in a PM, I don't care if people know my real name it is all over my Shapeways store and of course Facebook, so it isn't like its not out there already.
Dec 21, 2017 1:36 PM - WheresWaldo: It is also part of my gmail address as well as my Outlook address too.
Dec 21, 2017 1:37 PM - WheresWaldo: I assume yours is used in your google account since it is used in your YouTube comments.
Dec 21, 2017 1:44 PM - daniel871: I'd prefer not to make it easier for dipshits in other forums that have figured out my full name to find out I also post here and start shitposting here as well.
Dec 21, 2017 1:46 PM - daniel871: Also asking for my full name doesn't exactly give Braydon anything useful for sending me something and I'll be damned if I post my actual mailing address publicly.
    Dec 21, 2017 1:53 PM - danzca6: just DM him...that's what I did
Dec 21, 2017 2:02 PM - daniel871: I sent him a DM asking what he actually needed (because just my name makes very little sense).
Dec 21, 2017 2:40 PM - WheresWaldo: Although I have seen your posts in other places I know I only respond here. I am not at all interested in following people around the internet nor in where or why they post on stuff I simply have no interest in. Now if you posted on some Fountain Pen, Pentax camera or Bicycling forums you and I might interact
Dec 21, 2017 2:42 PM - WheresWaldo: Hey Danz, thanks for picking up the slack on the R1 Marlin thread.

    Dec 22, 2017 4:13 AM - daniel871: Okay Waldo. I wasn't talking about you.
Dec 22, 2017 6:03 AM - WheresWaldo: My replacement PEI sheets finally made it to the USA.
Dec 22, 2017 10:58 AM - Kilrah: oh so i'm not the only one using a 49" 4K TV as my PC monitor :D
    Dec 22, 2017 11:21 AM - WheresWaldo: My daughter just bought a 49" 7000 series 4K Samsung to use as a monitor. Wall mounted. I didn't have enough room so I went 43" 4K
    Dec 22, 2017 11:24 AM - Kilrah: nice
Dec 22, 2017 11:24 AM - Kilrah: i've used up to 65 but that was too much lol
Dec 22, 2017 11:24 AM - Kilrah: problem is it's too high to be centered
Dec 22, 2017 11:25 AM - WheresWaldo: My 43" sits on my desk, replaced 2 Dell 2408's. I think 40-43 is the sweet spot for desktop monitors.
Dec 22, 2017 11:26 AM - Kilrah: got a Samsung UE49KS7580, specifically chosen so I could replace the feet with lower profile 3D printed ones I designed so it's as low as possible on the desk - wouldn't fit under the wooden beam that's above it lol
Dec 22, 2017 11:26 AM - WheresWaldo: Anything bigger and you are too close on a desktop. I love not having to scale the Windows display using 4K. Also makes Fusion 360 so much easier to use.
    Dec 22, 2017 11:26 AM - Kilrah: i'm also not scaled
    Dec 22, 2017 11:27 AM - Kilrah: but... bigger = farther lol
Dec 22, 2017 11:27 AM - Kilrah: i had a 40" before but that was the problem, needed it too close
Dec 22, 2017 11:27 AM - WheresWaldo: Once you go 100% @4K I am not sure I could ever go back to a smaller 4K display.
Dec 22, 2017 11:27 AM - Kilrah: couldn't put anything on the desk
Dec 22, 2017 11:27 AM - Kilrah: yup, no way
Dec 22, 2017 11:28 AM - WheresWaldo: Plus playing games when the edges are at the edge of your peripheral vision is so much more immersive.
Dec 22, 2017 11:30 AM - WheresWaldo: Now if GPUs would just catch up to display technology that would be perfect.
    Dec 22, 2017 11:33 AM - Kilrah: yes <3
Dec 22, 2017 11:33 AM - Kilrah: gpus are good enough already
Dec 22, 2017 11:33 AM - WheresWaldo: So Kilrah, what's your PC setup?
Dec 22, 2017 11:33 AM - Kilrah: need good oens for sure
    Dec 22, 2017 11:36 AM - Kilrah: 3-year old 5960X/32GB, initially with 2xGTX970s but got replaced with a 1070 recently
    Dec 22, 2017 11:37 AM - WheresWaldo: I was running an i7-6700K with 32GB and a R9 390
    Dec 22, 2017 11:37 AM - Kilrah: initially 2x 240GB intel ssds in raid0, now replaced by a 512G m2 960evo
    Dec 22, 2017 11:37 AM - WheresWaldo: Now its a Ryzen 1700 @3.975Ghz / 32GB with GTX1080 Ti all under a custom water loop.
    Dec 22, 2017 11:37 AM - Kilrah: data storage 2x6TB RAID0
    Dec 22, 2017 11:38 AM - WheresWaldo: I have a separate raid box with 14TB of storage.
Dec 22, 2017 11:38 AM - Kilrah: the GTX is an itx sized one, so i can also put it in my SFF lan PC
    Dec 22, 2017 11:39 AM - Kilrah: which is a 7700K
    Dec 22, 2017 11:39 AM - WheresWaldo: Running RAID6, but I won't do that again, RAID6 isn't really for everyday use.
Dec 22, 2017 11:39 AM - Kilrah: (OC@5GHz, forgot to mention the 5960X is also running at 4.4)
Dec 22, 2017 11:40 AM - Kilrah: ok, intersting - just plain internal RAID0 here, and I have 2 external USB3 RAID0 boxes also with 2 6TB drives each as backups, one stored offsite of course
Dec 22, 2017 11:41 AM - WheresWaldo: I have nothing of import stored on my array, just about 1500 1080p movies and 85GB of FLAC/MP3 audio files.
    Dec 22, 2017 11:41 AM - Kilrah: heh
Dec 22, 2017 11:42 AM - Kilrah: i treat all my data the same way, lost too much time/got frustrated before when not
Dec 22, 2017 11:43 AM - WheresWaldo: My RAID box is running Win10 and PLEX Server, next time I am just going to set up Windows Storage Spaces.
Dec 22, 2017 11:44 AM - WheresWaldo: That is the next rebuild, going to repurpose my old PC put it in a new case, then start adding drives.
Dec 22, 2017 11:45 AM - Kilrah: never played with that
Dec 22, 2017 11:47 AM - WheresWaldo: My current RAID box is a Celeron G1610 @ 2.6GHz but I do have a Areca hardware RAID card. Since it will be replaced with a Z170 board I am going to build the new array using MB BIOS RAIDand then use Win 10 to manage the storage pool.
Dec 22, 2017 11:49 AM - WheresWaldo: My initial thought was three 8TB drives running RAID 10
Dec 22, 2017 11:50 AM - WheresWaldo: That should give me just over what I had before. Then migrate all the data. Then secure erase the drives before disposing of them. Current raid is 8 3TB drives in RAID 6 all the drives are about 5 years old.
Dec 22, 2017 11:51 AM - WheresWaldo: Pretty much in continuous service for that amount of time too.
Dec 22, 2017 11:52 AM - WheresWaldo: My issue is always how to fund it, bicycling stuff always seems to take priority over PC stuff.
    Dec 22, 2017 12:01 PM - Kilrah: hehe

Dec 25, 2017 8:36 AM - danzca6: Do the Marlin devs ever sleep? https://github.com/MarlinFirmware/Marlin/releases/tag/1.1.8 I guess this is the latest "weekly" update
Dec 25, 2017 10:09 AM - WheresWaldo: Danz I can't find where anything in 1.1.8 fixes any issues that affect cartesian printers, not really much of a new release. Start a new thread with 1.1.8 in the R1 section and I will sticky it and remove the sticky from my old thread.
Dec 25, 2017 10:13 AM - WheresWaldo: I will also post in my thread the new location moving forward. I can lock it after that.
Dec 25, 2017 11:17 AM - Geof: Merry Christmas all!
Dec 25, 2017 6:35 PM - danzca6: Yeah WW I don't see any rush to update to 1.1.8 for us. It's a minor update and can't believe they are pushing out minor revisions so fast.

Dec 26, 2017 6:02 AM - WheresWaldo: Danz, I went ahead and updated my GITHUB for the R2 to 1.1.8 and I am using it on my printer also. I don't see anything adverse. It is probably okay to upgrade the R1 series to 1.1.8 also.
Dec 26, 2017 6:59 AM - danzca6: OK. Wife is out of town for a week...so I will update my R1 to 1.1.8 and post the files. I downloaded the files last night.
Dec 26, 2017 7:03 AM - WheresWaldo: Let me know when you're done and I will sticky the thread.
Dec 26, 2017 7:25 AM - danzca6: won't be until tonight at the earliest since I wasn't smart enough to take off work this week :)

Dec 26, 2017 7:52 AM - danzca6: would be nice to build now when things are slower though
Dec 26, 2017 7:54 AM - Geof: Yep I figure the 2nd week of January is what to expect from them lol
Dec 26, 2017 7:54 AM - Geof: Hell the C2 still hasn't shown up lol.
Dec 26, 2017 7:54 AM - Geof: fed ex says "maybe tomorrow" lol

Dec 26, 2017 10:28 AM - Toro1966: Hey guys - looking to update my Robos to the 1.1.7 with UBL. Two questions - is it worth it (I have 1.1.0 with mesh now) and how do I implement/use UBL? For mesh I just downloaded and flashed the firmware, went through the bed level routine on the LCD, and then sent M500 to save the settings.
Dec 26, 2017 10:42 AM - Geof: Hey Toro havent done UBL would suggest starting a thread. Danz or Waldo would be your guys for that
    Dec 26, 2017 10:59 AM - Toro1966: Thanks Geof!
Dec 26, 2017 11:19 AM - Geof: very welcome, sorry I'm not more help. One day I'll maybe switch one of the robos over :D
Dec 26, 2017 12:24 PM - danzca6: Toro, I'll be updating to the 1.1.8 this week and will post the file and any special instructions in a new thread after.
Dec 26, 2017 12:24 PM - danzca6: Lots of changes, but depends on if you "need" the changes if it is worth it.
Dec 26, 2017 2:46 PM - danzca6: Waldo, you have any issues compiling 1.1.8 without being an admin? I get a permissions issue unless I'm admin. Wonder if the Fall Creator update on Win 10 changed something
Dec 26, 2017 2:47 PM - danzca6: I'm compiling the raw source without any changes
Dec 26, 2017 2:56 PM - danzca6: maybe it's antivirus related...I'll turn it off and recompile. I get it on 1.1.7 as well now

    Dec 27, 2017 at 6:30 AM - Geof: It finished :) lol
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:31 AM - danzca6: nice....that was a cringe worthy print with such a small base. Was the quality ok?
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:31 AM - Geof: Just tweeted the pic if you wabt to see lol
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:32 AM - Geof: Quality is ok. Just needed one apparently for the client to test fit. Will run on the large formats when we get power back lol
    Dec 27, 2017 at 6:32 AM - danzca6: you lost power
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:33 AM - danzca6: not good on a cold day like this

Dec 27, 2017 at 6:34 AM - danzca6: how are you getting along these days?
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:35 AM - WheresWaldo: Recovering very well until Sunday, spent the last two days with a sinus infection. But the surgery is almost completely healed, no issues.
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:36 AM - WheresWaldo: This morning I actually feel much better, but I plan on making it an easy day. So Geof, No power means no heat for the day?
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:37 AM - danzca6: not a day to be without heat
    Dec 27, 2017 at 6:37 AM - danzca6: it's -8 without the windchill right now
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:38 AM - danzca6: Good to hear the recovery is going well. How long are you off work?
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:39 AM - WheresWaldo: I've got a couple of weeks, plus supposedly nothing strenuous for 5 more.
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:39 AM - WheresWaldo: Overly cautious doctors.
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:40 AM - danzca6: I can understand that...some folks go hog wild and injure themselves because they "feel fine"
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:40 AM - danzca6: winter is a bad time with snow shoveling to take it easy. Hopefully you have someone to take care of that in case of snow
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:41 AM - danzca6: man...Marlin is teasing the release of 2.0 coming soon on twitter
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:41 AM - WheresWaldo: When I had my stents put in a few years ago, the very next day I went on a 35 mile ride with the fast group the very next day.
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:42 AM - WheresWaldo: I am not sure we will ever see the need for Marlin 2.0
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:43 AM - WheresWaldo: I have seen some of the commits and discussion on GITHUB
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:43 AM - WheresWaldo: Although I do have a spare MKS S-Base "smoothieboard" ripoff here.
    Dec 27, 2017 at 6:46 AM - danzca6: I don't think I need 1.1.8, but for some reason I'm updating to it...hahahha
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:47 AM - danzca6: 2.0 is supposed to handle 32-bit isn't it? It will be interesting to see how well it goes. I've been tempted to download it to check out. I know it is has totally been refactored. So it will take some time to get used to where things are and what they are named.
    Dec 27, 2017 at 6:53 AM - WheresWaldo: 2.0 is a rebase and 32-bit support, If i recall correctly.
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:54 AM - WheresWaldo: They already have support for the Makerbase MKS S-Base 32-bit board, one of the contributors has one.
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:55 AM - danzca6: that is the hard part is to have the devs have access to all the different boards out there these days
Dec 27, 2017 at 6:56 AM - danzca6: with the more frequent updates, I am wishing there was a site/app that would just ask what options you want to enable and parameter settings and it would pop out the updated sketch :)
    Dec 27, 2017 at 6:59 AM - WheresWaldo: On windows I use CompareIt! and Notepad++ https://www.grigsoft.com/wincmp3.htm https://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v7.5.3.html
Dec 27, 2017 at 7:00 AM - WheresWaldo: It makes it easy to compare between two versions of files in different directories. and will output a DIFF file if you want. That is basically how I keep up.
Dec 27, 2017 at 7:00 AM - danzca6: yeah I have both of those. They are helpful
Dec 27, 2017 at 7:01 AM - WheresWaldo: At this point, with just Compare It!, it takes me about 10 minutes to go from the previous release to the current one, especially since the changes are usually small.
Dec 27, 2017 at 7:02 AM - WheresWaldo: It took me longer to figure out what Robo changed and document those changes. They document nothing.
Dec 27, 2017 at 7:03 AM - WheresWaldo: How f@#$ing hard is it to add a comment to a line of code you change from the default.
Dec 27, 2017 at 7:09 AM - danzca6: hahaha...yeah the changes are quick, but I want to go through and test things before posting and that takes awhile since i don't have a stock R1+
Dec 27, 2017 at 7:16 AM - Kilrah: tell me about it, on a project where we keep having to add support for new boards...
Dec 27, 2017 at 7:22 AM - WheresWaldo: I usually test by flashing then leveling, then printing deprime. If that works I'm okay with it.
Dec 27, 2017 at 7:33 AM - danzca6: I have several mods that have to be sorted (like the RRD fans, FRS, and IR) to test and make sure are working before I can print go through setting up the leveling and printing. If I had a stock R1/R1+ to just dump and print would make it faster...or if I was less anal about things being just right. :)
Dec 27, 2017 at 7:35 AM - WheresWaldo: You did a lot more mods than I did to my R1, I just had E3D, new bed and heater, new lead screws
Dec 27, 2017 at 7:45 AM - Kilrah: I follow developments pretty closely on several things, but somehow printers isn't one of those... Just want something that works decently and never touch it again :p
    Dec 27, 2017 at 8:24 AM - Geof: Picking up c2 today
    Dec 27, 2017 at 8:24 AM - JeffTheMess: yay
Dec 27, 2017 at 8:27 AM - Geof: Finally lol. Has to be signed for so will pick up at the store
Dec 27, 2017 at 8:42 AM - JeffTheMess: thats awesome!
    Dec 27, 2017 at 9:27 AM - Toro1966: Morning all.
Dec 27, 2017 at 10:25 AM - WheresWaldo: Hey everyone, back from Harbor Frieght, had to take advantage of a few Insider Club coupons before the new year.
Dec 27, 2017 at 10:27 AM - WheresWaldo: I am very tempted to pick up a Laser Engraving Machine from Banggood.
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:10 AM - Kilrah: I'm tempted to buy a laser module from them and bolt it onto my CNC router
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:10 AM - Kilrah: not made the step yet
    Dec 27, 2017 at 11:20 AM - Geof: C2 has arrived !
    Dec 27, 2017 at 11:21 AM - WheresWaldo: Yeah
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:21 AM - Geof: Yessir unboxed and printing
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:21 AM - WheresWaldo: Hey Mark, don't you have a laser engraver? Is it used much?
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:22 AM - Toro1966: Excellent Geof! I picked up a Tevo Tornado last month and a JGAurora A5 a couple of weeks ago. Now I am looking at getting a laser negraver/cutter 0
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:22 AM - Toro1966: Hey Waldo - have a couple of questions on the latest Marlin versions and UBL.
    Dec 27, 2017 at 11:23 AM - WheresWaldo: Shoot
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:24 AM - Toro1966: I have your Nov 2016 1.1.0 with MESH loaded now and works perfectly but am looking toupgrade to the latest 1.1.7 release. My understanding is it uses UBL, which i have read up on but have no idea how to do. Is it the same process as leveling initially with MESH?
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:25 AM - WheresWaldo: Different processes and MESH is still there, all you need to do is edit two lines in Configuration.h if you want MESH instead of UBL.
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:27 AM - Toro1966: Which is better in your opinion? Do I still just have to hit M500 after I level to save the settings?
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:28 AM - WheresWaldo: Yes and look over this webpage http://marlinfw.org/docs/features/unified_bed_leveling.html
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:29 AM - WheresWaldo: I don't think one is better than the other, one is easier to use than the other and MESH will eventually go away since UBL is sort of automated mesh.
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:29 AM - WheresWaldo: I think MESH is more accurate unless you manually tune the UBL matrix
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:30 AM - Toro1966: I know the conversation for quite a while was the UBL was not ready for prime time. Is it finally ready and worth the upgrade?
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:31 AM - WheresWaldo: It works, I use it on my R2 over the Robo firmware. I was specifically assked by Robo if I would use the new firmware when ready and my exact response was "Why the fuck would I do that?"
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:31 AM - WheresWaldo: I had to do it all manually, but if you have an LCD controller on the R1 you can do it all in the menus.
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:33 AM - Toro1966: Lol. So when I load the 1.1.7 with UBL enabled by default, I assume I have to use the LCD to go through the bed leveling process, when finished, hit M500 to save it, and then do I need to add the G29 to my start script? I ask because right now, with MESH, I only have G28 in my start script.
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:34 AM - WheresWaldo: G29 is never needed after the UBL matrix is created, stored and enabled.
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:35 AM - WheresWaldo: It won't hurt anything that is there, but it isn't needed either.
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:35 AM - Toro1966: Great. And I can do all that in the menu on the LCD - correct? Just as you said above?
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:35 AM - WheresWaldo: Think of UBL as Automated MESH creation, that will give you a pretty good idea of how it works.
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:36 AM - Toro1966: Cool - so you don't use the papertest when you level it the first time like you do in MESH - correct?
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:36 AM - WheresWaldo: Ask Danzca about the menus, my R1 is in a box debating whether or not I send it to Geof. So I can't tell you about the menu structure.
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:37 AM - WheresWaldo: No paper, it uses the probe
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:37 AM - Toro1966: Probe - or nozzle as the probe as in the R1?
    Dec 27, 2017 at 11:37 AM - WheresWaldo: Probe / nozzle 6 / half dozen, same thing.
    Dec 27, 2017 at 11:38 AM - Toro1966: Lol - just making sure I didn't miss something :) Still a relative noob.
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:39 AM - WheresWaldo: Your not a noob, don't kid yourself. Read over the link I posted and it is relatively easy, especially since you only do it once.
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:39 AM - Toro1966: When the UBL is complete and I print, if I have regions that aren't correct, I can go in and manually change those? I am guessing that probably won't be worth it. Right now I just use MESH to get things just about perfect and then babystep at print start as required to get a good first layer.
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:39 AM - WheresWaldo: Even easier with an LCD, or at least I'm told.
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:39 AM - Toro1966: Thanks brother. Been reading it. ooks pretty straight forward.
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:39 AM - Toro1966: I plan on trying it this week and then I'll report back!
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:40 AM - WheresWaldo: I know Danzca is using it and I think Ed Ferguson too, they both love it.
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:41 AM - Toro1966: Sweet. I ronically - I have had no issues with MESH. Everey once and a while I have to rereun the routine and save it, but that's it - every few months. And I print a lot.
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:42 AM - Toro1966: Wow - I need to slow down - my grammar is horrible!
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:43 AM - WheresWaldo: That's great, I set up UBL on 1.1.6 and have upgraded Firmware all the way to 1.1.8 and all I had to do was reset the home offset once. It really makes printing a no brainer.
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:43 AM - WheresWaldo: All other things considered.
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:44 AM - Toro1966: That's awesome. Probably going to add the ABL sensors to my Tornado and A5
Dec 27, 2017 at 11:45 AM - Toro1966: I am getting so lazy. manual leveling doesn't take anytime at all, but I like just being bale to heat and print :)

Dec 28, 2017 at 4:41 AM - JeffTheMess: morning robonauts
Dec 28, 2017 at 4:45 AM - WheresWaldo: Morning Jeff
Dec 28, 2017 at 5:08 AM - JeffTheMess: hows it going Waldo
Dec 28, 2017 at 5:09 AM - JeffTheMess: does purple mean your n admin or something?
Dec 28, 2017 at 5:32 AM - WheresWaldo: Nope, you can change your own color, it is the first button in the Shoutbox page.
    Dec 28, 2017 at 5:32 AM - WheresWaldo: See now it's orange!
Dec 28, 2017 at 5:33 AM - JeffTheMess: ahh never noticed before
Dec 28, 2017 at 5:33 AM - WheresWaldo: Having it a different color makes it a bit easier to follow some conversations.
Dec 28, 2017 at 5:51 AM - WheresWaldo: Geof, you have that C2 unboxed yet?
Dec 28, 2017 at 5:56 AM - JeffTheMess: the c2 is only pla right?
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:02 AM - Geof: Hey Waldo Good morning. Yes sir. Unboxed and printing.
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:02 AM - Geof: Jeff- Cold build plate so typically people say PLA only but you can print alot of materials on a cold plate.
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:03 AM - WheresWaldo: Yep basically PLA only, no heated bed.
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:03 AM - Geof: with the build tak you can do quite a bit more than PLA :D
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:04 AM - Geof: Mark has done some nylons and the such as an example. Just more finiky.
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:04 AM - WheresWaldo: True, but it will be trial and error on a lot of stuff.
    Dec 28, 2017 at 6:06 AM - JeffTheMess: sweet...
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:06 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah risky
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:07 AM - Geof: for sure. Heatbed would be nice on the C2 and kind of silly it doesn't have one . Would be easy enough to add.
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:07 AM - JeffTheMess: steep price without one
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:08 AM - Geof: Its a suprising little machine
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:08 AM - Geof: I was very clear with my thoughts about it being priced to high but it is on sturdy beast.
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:09 AM - JeffTheMess: hope so
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:12 AM - Geof: its actually front runner for local schools (if it stays performing the way it does).
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:12 AM - Geof: stupid easy to set up and boxed crazy well (much better than the R2 was)
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:12 AM - Geof: at least from what I recall lol.
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:14 AM - JeffTheMess: lol nice hope it works out its their best yet
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:15 AM - WheresWaldo: My opinion agrees that the C2 is priced too high.
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:17 AM - Geof: It may be considering other machines on the market but touchscreen, octoprint and the runout do help (sort of)
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:17 AM - Geof: the refurb price (499.99) I think is decently fair.
    Dec 28, 2017 at 6:18 AM - JeffTheMess: meh
    Dec 28, 2017 at 6:21 AM - Geof: :D
    Dec 28, 2017 at 6:21 AM - Geof: I still remember paying over 700 for the R1+ lol :D
    Dec 28, 2017 at 6:26 AM - JeffTheMess: lol i'm guilty there
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:27 AM - Geof: I think most of us are :D
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:50 AM - Geof: C2 photos in the show and tell section Waldo
    Dec 28, 2017 at 6:54 AM - WheresWaldo: That's a lot of PEI sheets.
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:55 AM - WheresWaldo: I got my replacement PEI for the R2, just need to cut them to size.
    Dec 28, 2017 at 6:57 AM - danzca6: I don't have a font color button in shoutbox
Dec 28, 2017 at 6:58 AM - danzca6: bold, italic, strike through, insert image, insert ling, and emoji is all I have
    Dec 28, 2017 at 6:58 AM - danzca6: must be a moderator thing
    Dec 28, 2017 at 7:00 AM - danzca6: So UBL...WW did you do a G26?
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:01 AM - danzca6: I set the M851 Z offset and it prints a part ok, but G26 just prints into the bed
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:03 AM - Geof: They are like a build tak replica sticker Waldo. I was suprised there was so many, I'm assuming most machines dont come with that many
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:06 AM - WheresWaldo: I cannot do a G26, I think they broke it with M206, I have M851 set to 0 and use home offset instead. G26 prints in the air for me.
    Dec 28, 2017 at 7:06 AM - WheresWaldo: I opened a ticket on GITHUB
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:15 AM - danzca6: ok..I remember you saying you were struggling with it
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:15 AM - danzca6: At least I'm can stop going crazy trying to figure out what I am doing wrong
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:17 AM - WheresWaldo: G26 appears to be printing at the trigger point of the IR, since M851 = 0, but all regular prints appear to be at trigger - M206 Z (home offset).
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:18 AM - WheresWaldo: The IR is especially bad on the R2, worse than some of the ones Thomas Sanladerer tested a while back. I had to tweak the mesh a lot, thank god M421 works as documented.
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:19 AM - danzca6: yeah my mesh isn't the best either. I'm going to have to go through and tweak it all
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:20 AM - danzca6: Frustrating to have a perfect MESH and then have to redo it
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:20 AM - danzca6: But, once it's done with UBL I can at least save it off and replay easily
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:21 AM - danzca6: I have it saved in a gcode file on my SD to just run after a firmware update
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:22 AM - WheresWaldo: As long as the EEPROM version doesn't change from Marlin to Marlin you can reuse the mesh. That is what I have done since 1.1.6
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:23 AM - WheresWaldo: I store in slot 0 and when I connect to OctoPrint I have it load slot 0 and re-enable UBL, it works great that way, no redoing every flash.
    Dec 28, 2017 at 7:24 AM - danzca6: oh...here I have been just doing it the hard way...hahaha
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:25 AM - WheresWaldo: The EEPROM does not clear unless you specifically clear it, if EEPROM version stays the same.
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:27 AM - WheresWaldo: With M421 you can adjust single points in the mesh, by just typing in how much you want o adjust. Use the I and J parameters and you don't have to figure out the exact mm locations either.
    Dec 28, 2017 at 7:29 AM - WheresWaldo: http://marlinfw.org/docs/gcode/M421.html
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:29 AM - WheresWaldo: Geof, Are you sure it isn't BuildTak?
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:31 AM - danzca6: I was just using the LCD menu for adjusting...it might be sending that code. May need to open a serial monitor to see
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:31 AM - danzca6: Last night I was also trying to figure out the XXL LCD is flaking out with 1.1.8. It will be fine then a character here or there will go funky. Sometimes the whole screen
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:33 AM - WheresWaldo: It is likely a timing thing, look in Configuration_adv.h and you will see some setting based on µsec
    Dec 28, 2017 at 7:34 AM - danzca6: yeah I was looking at that
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:34 AM - WheresWaldo: Line 629 #define DOGM_SPI_DELAY_US 5 You may need to enable and make the number larger, try 15
    Dec 28, 2017 at 7:35 AM - danzca6: ok...I'll do that
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:35 AM - danzca6: I did enable long file names as well and that is nice for SD printing to see which file is which
Dec 28, 2017 at 7:36 AM - WheresWaldo: Yeah, don't know why that isn't the default.
    Dec 28, 2017 at 8:12 AM - Toro1966: Morning all.
Dec 28, 2017 at 8:12 AM - Geof: Hey Toro
    Dec 28, 2017 at 8:14 AM - Toro1966: What's up Geof.
Dec 28, 2017 at 8:16 AM - Geof: workin like always buddy :D lol
    Dec 28, 2017 at 8:16 AM - Toro1966: Lol - me too!
Dec 28, 2017 at 8:18 AM - Toro1966: Still trying to tune this tornado - lol. It's not printing bad, but I have gotten pretty retentive on my expectations.
Dec 28, 2017 at 8:22 AM - Geof: lol nothing wrong with that man. Even after all the years and multiple machines they are all still being tuned :D never ending battle buddy :D
Dec 28, 2017 at 8:24 AM - Toro1966: Very true :) But that's why we like them right? Think I am going to get one of the cheap K40 laser engravers next.
Dec 28, 2017 at 8:25 AM - Toro1966: Just got a brand new JGAruroa A5. Beautiful machine but bed is warped so can't print with it. Well to be correct, i could rig it to work with glass and moving z stop, etc, but i am just going to wait for the replacemnt bed to come :)
    Dec 28, 2017 at 8:26 AM - Geof: link?
    Dec 28, 2017 at 8:27 AM - Toro1966: https://www.lightinthebox.com/jgaur...-most-high-accuracy_p6321259.html?prm=1.5.1.1
    Dec 28, 2017 at 8:27 AM - Toro1966: I got the blue one.
    Dec 28, 2017 at 8:28 AM - Toro1966: I also got it cheaper.
    Dec 28, 2017 at 8:28 AM - Toro1966: it was about 348 shipped
Dec 28, 2017 at 8:31 AM - Geof: Thats a very interesting machine. WIll you DM some pics of the X axis? Wheres the part cooler?
Dec 28, 2017 at 8:31 AM - Geof: funky! lol
Dec 28, 2017 at 8:34 AM - Toro1966: It is a little funky. It uses rails and bearings, not the profiles and wheels. Parts fan nozzle is cheap and printed and will probaly have to be remade in PETG or ABS. I'll take some pics later of the nozzle setup but it essentially has two fans built into the hotend mount.
Dec 28, 2017 at 8:36 AM - Toro1966: There are some design things I would have changed, but not too bad overall. It is EXTREMELY quiet. I did the test print of the Chinese cat, but gave up printing more because the center is much lower on the bed than the corners when leveled. I have three other printers so I figured I would just wait for the new bed lol.
Dec 28, 2017 at 8:37 AM - Geof: bummer to hear about the bed. Would be a neat machine for the off topic section if you were up for sharing pics and the such.
Dec 28, 2017 at 8:37 AM - Geof: very cool. Congrats.
    Dec 28, 2017 at 8:46 AM - Toro1966: Sure - can do. I'll post them tonight.
    Dec 28, 2017 at 8:46 AM - Toro1966: Appreciate it.
Dec 28, 2017 at 8:47 AM - Toro1966: Almost bought a thrid R1+ lol. Not that I need it, but they really are my workhorses. Very reliable and I can start a print in three minutes.
    Dec 28, 2017 at 8:55 AM - Geof: LOL I have that many :D
Dec 28, 2017 at 8:56 AM - Geof: I feel the same way. They are good machines out of the box and great machines with a little tweaks and upgrades.

    Dec 29, 2017 6:00 AM - WheresWaldo: Morning Geof
Dec 29, 2017 6:22 AM - Geof: Hows it goin waldo
Dec 29, 2017 6:33 AM - WheresWaldo: Slow today, got a couple of things I could work on, or postpone until Jan 2, I'm leaning on Jan 2.
Dec 29, 2017 6:34 AM - WheresWaldo: How about you?
Dec 29, 2017 6:42 AM - Geof: runnin printers lol.
Dec 29, 2017 6:42 AM - Geof: same ole same
    Dec 29, 2017 6:42 AM - Geof: last day til Monday :D
Dec 29, 2017 6:43 AM - Geof: maybe Tuesday, lol not sure.
Dec 29, 2017 6:43 AM - Geof: gotta wing it and see what shakes.
Dec 29, 2017 6:48 AM - Parker: Morning guys, what slicing software do you use?
Dec 29, 2017 6:48 AM - WheresWaldo: Already in vacation mode today. Did try a new filament, cheap black PLA from Amazon, labeled Totalpack, was $7.40 and it seems to print really well.
Dec 29, 2017 6:49 AM - WheresWaldo: Should have bought more.
    Dec 29, 2017 6:50 AM - Parker: 7.40 for how much?
Dec 29, 2017 6:50 AM - WheresWaldo: 1 kg spool, that was on the deals before XMAS
    Dec 29, 2017 6:51 AM - WheresWaldo: $17 now
Dec 29, 2017 6:52 AM - WheresWaldo: Danzca linked to it, and I decided I would jump on it.
Dec 29, 2017 6:52 AM - WheresWaldo: Actually no, I bought it at Thanksgiving, It was an addon item.
Dec 29, 2017 6:53 AM - Parker: Ahh, if it prints ok $17 isnt terrible
Dec 29, 2017 6:54 AM - WheresWaldo: I printed out a couple of things so far, printed at 197°C and no stringing, but my room is 66°F, so might print cooler in the summer.
Dec 29, 2017 6:55 AM - Parker: 30% off your order at makergeeks till new year, I might get a few things
Dec 29, 2017 6:57 AM - WheresWaldo: Makergeeks has had a few issues recently. I personally never ordered from them but others have. Some okay, some had issues.
Dec 29, 2017 7:02 AM - Parker: oh, i ordered some stuff a few weeks ago and got it, but I also bought one of those monthly subscriptions, which i should be getting anytime now
Dec 29, 2017 7:04 AM - Parker: what slicing software do you use?
Dec 29, 2017 7:11 AM - WheresWaldo: S3D and Slic3r, dabbled in Cura, but pretty much nothing else compares.
Dec 29, 2017 7:38 AM - Geof: S3D, ZSuite (zortrax), Cura flavors for Type A, Sigma and UM, then some more S3D lol
Dec 29, 2017 7:40 AM - Parker: sounds like the $150 for s3d is worth it
Dec 29, 2017 7:44 AM - Geof: Only you can make that decision. I feel it is and Waldo I think does not feel it is.
Dec 29, 2017 7:44 AM - Geof: both very viable opinions. He gets stellar results with the free slicers, I just dont want to invest the time when one slicer can run all my machines (almost). I am a different type of user as well though.
Dec 29, 2017 7:49 AM - Parker: ill put some thought into buying it. what do you guys use to "design"?
    Dec 29, 2017 7:51 AM - Geof: Fusion 360 for me(everything I do is mechanical modeling)
Dec 29, 2017 7:52 AM - Geof: organic stuff is over my head but people use everything from Zbrush (paid) and sculptris (free but limited) to blender
Dec 29, 2017 7:52 AM - WheresWaldo: I think S3D is at the very least $50 overpriced and really at $49 it is correctly priced.
Dec 29, 2017 7:53 AM - WheresWaldo: Fusion 360 for design, because if you are not a business it is free to use.
Dec 29, 2017 7:59 AM - Geof: see waldo and I disagree :D I was fine paying the 150 (and honestly would pay it again). I dont think as a buisness they could survive at 50.00 for a lifetime license with 2 seats.
Dec 29, 2017 8:02 AM - WheresWaldo: I believe it would be a wash as more people would buy at $50, so bigger market share.
Dec 29, 2017 8:03 AM - Geof: very possible. Until PE slicer most everyone I knew used S3D :D
Dec 29, 2017 8:03 AM - Geof: I can see why they kept it high.
Dec 29, 2017 8:03 AM - WheresWaldo: Especially with $300 printers flooding the market, from places like Gearbest, Banggood, Tmart, etc.
Dec 29, 2017 8:03 AM - Geof: if slic3r UI didn't suck so hard I'd use it more maybe
Dec 29, 2017 8:04 AM - Geof: Yessir. We as a "collective" are getting things very cheap now.
    Dec 29, 2017 8:04 AM - Geof: I remember the R1+ at 800.00 was a "cheaper" machine lol
Dec 29, 2017 8:04 AM - WheresWaldo: I think the Prusa version as well as Slic3r can do everything S3D does, it is just a slightly steeper learning curve.
Dec 29, 2017 8:04 AM - Geof: I hate it lol. Stupid stuff like rotation and no toopath display make it....pointless :D
    Dec 29, 2017 8:05 AM - Geof: but I'm an odd user.
Dec 29, 2017 8:05 AM - Geof: alot of people also comment on how great it is
Dec 29, 2017 8:05 AM - WheresWaldo: There is nothing special abouyt how S3D does things, there UI needs a refresh and they still group things together in stupid ways.
Dec 29, 2017 8:06 AM - WheresWaldo: All the most recent updates have been incremental too.
Dec 29, 2017 8:11 AM - Geof: yea the updates have been pointless IMO.
Dec 29, 2017 8:11 AM - Geof: the only good updates that have happened is variable wizard to make it easy and dual extrusion fixes.
Dec 29, 2017 8:12 AM - Geof: the variable to me is only worth a crap if you print huge parts (like my Gmax) that are prototypes- or pretty stuff lol. Just saves filament
Dec 29, 2017 8:14 AM - WheresWaldo: So if a lifetime license is to have any value, it can't just be about getting bugs fixed, now can it?
Dec 29, 2017 8:14 AM - WheresWaldo: Even free slicers fix bugs.
Dec 29, 2017 8:20 AM - Geof: nope, my main points of liking S3D is the interface and manipulation of models makes sense to me
Dec 29, 2017 8:20 AM - Geof: the tool path visualizer
Dec 29, 2017 8:20 AM - Geof: being able to have all my machines profiles open and click to which one is printing what
Dec 29, 2017 8:20 AM - Geof: Dual extrusion wizard- MUST for dual extrusion IMO.
Dec 29, 2017 8:20 AM - WheresWaldo: Most of the world doesn't care about dual extrusion.
Dec 29, 2017 8:20 AM - Geof: and typically the toolpaths generated are much faster /optimal without a loss in quality than say cura or the such
Dec 29, 2017 8:21 AM - Geof: no but anyone with a dual extrusion printer does :D (me).
Dec 29, 2017 8:21 AM - Geof: without the wizard its a huge pain in the ass to put the models to assigned Tool heads
Dec 29, 2017 8:21 AM - WheresWaldo: Yes Cura and especially Slic3r toolpaths can be odd to say the least.
Dec 29, 2017 8:21 AM - Geof: I would say the biggest saving grace for S3D for me is the print preview (tool path)
Dec 29, 2017 8:21 AM - Geof: without that many of my prints would be a nightmare.
Dec 29, 2017 8:22 AM - Geof: stuff like lettering and the such I can fix before I print it without swapping nozzles by tweaking a few settings. Saves me alot of money :D
Dec 29, 2017 8:23 AM - Geof: that said! I use Cura for the UM alot (duh right lol) and for the Type A on occasion but only because they have alot of well tuned profiles for oddball materials that I dont run often
Dec 29, 2017 8:23 AM - WheresWaldo: Cura has made a lot of big improvements since the 1.x days.
Dec 29, 2017 8:24 AM - Geof: indeed. The newest revisions are doing much better
Dec 29, 2017 8:24 AM - WheresWaldo: Same can't be said for Slic3r or S3D, Although Prusa is making an attempt to make Slic3r much better.
Dec 29, 2017 8:31 AM - Geof: he is making an attempt to make PE slic3r better :D lol
Dec 29, 2017 8:31 AM - Geof: doesn't sound like the MK3 is doing nearly as well in the wild as the MK2 did :D
Dec 29, 2017 8:31 AM - Geof: glad i waited it out to see what shakes vs buying one
Dec 29, 2017 8:32 AM - WheresWaldo: I see a bunch of unboxing and review videos pop up recently, but haven't watched any.
Dec 29, 2017 8:33 AM - Geof: I havent watched any of the unboxings and such just because i think most are bogus
Dec 29, 2017 8:33 AM - Geof: just hearing people talk.
Dec 29, 2017 8:33 AM - Geof: which of course you rarely hear of the good ones.
Dec 29, 2017 8:34 AM - Geof: just stuff like the runout sensor doens't work on transparent/clear filaments and sometimes doesn't work at all, the shift thing repair works sometimes, the power outage always reports the outage but doesn't always let you restart the print
Dec 29, 2017 8:34 AM - Geof: etc etc. Its the same bones so the machine is just as good as the MK2 but the "features" seem to be buggy
Dec 29, 2017 8:34 AM - WheresWaldo: Most of my Youtube viewing is either PC or Cycling related, I gave up watching Joel and Thomas & Angus only get a view once a month or so.
Dec 29, 2017 8:35 AM - Geof: I like watching angus' fusion stuff. Smart cookie.
Dec 29, 2017 8:35 AM - Geof: Tom hasn't been doing a whole lot other than streams and those are to long to keep my attention
Dec 29, 2017 8:35 AM - WheresWaldo: That is what he went ot school for, I watch them also.
Dec 29, 2017 8:36 AM - WheresWaldo: That is what Angus went to school for, I watch them also.
Dec 29, 2017 8:37 AM - Geof: you get your R1 out of the storage box yet?
Dec 29, 2017 8:38 AM - WheresWaldo: Nope, busy with other stuff.
Dec 29, 2017 8:38 AM - Geof: I'm printing lithos on all the robos (well lithos and frame holders) for family christmas with my dad tomorrow
Dec 29, 2017 8:38 AM - Geof: then printing this for the kids to play with
    Dec 29, 2017 8:38 AM - Geof: https://www.myminifactory.com/objec...al&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer
Dec 29, 2017 8:38 AM - Geof: ah bummer! Hows the DLP goin?
Dec 29, 2017 8:39 AM - WheresWaldo: Gets used abouyt one day a month
Dec 29, 2017 8:39 AM - Geof: most things FDM?
Dec 29, 2017 8:39 AM - WheresWaldo: All I print are prototypes from stuff I sell at Shapeways.
    Dec 29, 2017 8:39 AM - Geof: ah gotya.
    Dec 29, 2017 8:39 AM - Geof: makes sense.
Dec 29, 2017 8:39 AM - WheresWaldo: Yeah almost all my home stuff is FDM
Dec 29, 2017 8:40 AM - Geof: the Moai is still going well. Leveling is a bit of a whore
Dec 29, 2017 8:42 AM - WheresWaldo: Right now all my printers are dialed in very well. I haven't touched leveling on the R2 in the last three firmware upgrades either.
Dec 29, 2017 8:43 AM - WheresWaldo: 2018 will be looking for either a laser cutter/engraver or small CNC, will have to see if the Chinese jump into that market.
    Dec 29, 2017 8:44 AM - Geof: yea I'd like a small CNC. I really dont think I need a cutter
Dec 29, 2017 8:45 AM - Geof: but a small CNC for finishing parts would be nice. and a little aluminum machining at home for stuff I want

Dec 29, 2017 8:45 AM - WheresWaldo: I have some PC mod parts in my head that I think a laser cutter would work for. But I just look at it as a toy .
Dec 29, 2017 8:46 AM - WheresWaldo: That's why I'll wait until the Chinese see it as a viable market.
Dec 29, 2017 8:46 AM - WheresWaldo: They are always behind the curve, but then its a race to the bottom.
Dec 29, 2017 8:46 AM - Geof: For sure. I'm not going to spend a ton of a home cnc. If I were to do that I'd go with a prosumer version
Dec 29, 2017 8:47 AM - Geof: yep! seeen some chinese CNC mills but nothing that are worthwhile yet.
Dec 29, 2017 8:49 AM - WheresWaldo: I am currently printing a Vase with the cheap black PLA I mentioned before, it is coming out very smooth.
Dec 29, 2017 8:50 AM - Geof: I'm just doing all the mentioned above in various pla lol. Junk stuff that isn't great for client work.
Dec 29, 2017 8:50 AM - Geof: Melt Ink, and a few no name china stuff I was given. Zortrax are running ABS per usual.
Dec 29, 2017 8:51 AM - WheresWaldo: I think I have two spools of ABS left, I am phasing out all my ABS printing. Won't be buying anymore, anytime soon.
Dec 29, 2017 8:52 AM - Geof: The R2 runs ABS really well but yep not much point in it anymore. Clients love to say ABS so I run a ton of it lol.
Dec 29, 2017 8:53 AM - WheresWaldo: Sometimes educating clients is harder than actually just doing what they ask.
Dec 29, 2017 8:54 AM - WheresWaldo: I see that with some of my stuff, but much less than you most likely.
Dec 29, 2017 8:54 AM - Geof: :D if you can get a production guy to sit down and listen I'm all ears lol. The commercial world is such an odd place. ABS...you know there are much better materials for you product...Yes like ABS....well... no....ABS lol
Dec 29, 2017 9:08 AM - WheresWaldo: You probably would think this is amusing. As you know I am into cycling and when I do a handlebar tape job you have to do it a certain way or the constant rubbing will unravel the tape. That leaves the inner end loose and needs to be secured. For years people use electrical tape (kinda like ABS for 3D printers). Electrical tape sucks, it stretches too much, the adhesive softens in hot weather and it just doesn't stick well over time...
Dec 29, 2017 9:10 AM - WheresWaldo: But people are used to seeing it so that is what they want. I came from a baseball and hockey background growing up as a kid, so I used friction tape (hockey tape) on the bat and my hockey sticks. Much better feel and after you get a layer of sweat and dirt embedded into the outer layer it leaves no marks. stays put and looks way better than electrical tape. I use that on all the bikes I worked on or sold. But I do have people that ask for ...
Dec 29, 2017 9:11 AM - WheresWaldo: it to be removed and put the electrical tape back in it's place. There is just no convincing some people that the most well known is not the best solution anymore.
    Dec 29, 2017 9:12 AM - Geof: exactly :D
Dec 29, 2017 9:12 AM - WheresWaldo: Sad part is most of those people don't really know, they were just told it was the solution.
Dec 29, 2017 9:12 AM - Parker: Just got my first monthly "3d geek box" from makergeeks, got two new custom colors, a semi light blue called pauls blue car and a red called make me blush
Dec 29, 2017 9:12 AM - Geof: I'm so use to the hassle of trying to explain it that I just give up and if you want ABS it costs a bit more. Your told it will be XXXX amount cheaper in another material .
Dec 29, 2017 9:12 AM - Geof: and if still ABS thats fine :D I like money
Dec 29, 2017 9:13 AM - Geof: Makergeeks? Didn't they just have the BBB tell people not to buy from them?
    Dec 29, 2017 9:13 AM - WheresWaldo: I believe that is true
Dec 29, 2017 9:13 AM - Parker: yea whats the deal with them?
Dec 29, 2017 9:14 AM - WheresWaldo: For some people they have been slow at filling orders, or not including everything, they have been non-responsive to customer inquiries.
    Dec 29, 2017 9:15 AM - Parker: uhh yikes
Dec 29, 2017 9:15 AM - danzca6: their filament is the reason I bought a filament width sensor. Too much variance on the last monthly boxes I got from them. Then they wouldn't cancel even though I had a confirmation email. So got charged for a couple more months until they finally took care of it. Enough hassle to say forget it for me.
Dec 29, 2017 9:16 AM - Parker: really? thats awful, where do you guys like to buy filament from?
Dec 29, 2017 9:16 AM - danzca6: I get mine either on amazon or from Printed Solid
    Dec 29, 2017 9:18 AM - WheresWaldo: ditto Danz
Dec 29, 2017 9:18 AM - Geof: ditto. Been buying bulk spools from some other places for black and white PLA like Zyltech
Dec 29, 2017 9:19 AM - Geof: I think their 10 spool deal make sit around 10 bucks a kg but you ahve to buy 10 spools. Next price break is at 30 spools and its not enough to mak eit worth it even for me :D
    Dec 29, 2017 9:20 AM - Parker: $10 a kg is nice
Dec 29, 2017 9:21 AM - Geof: as long as your ok with 10 spools of white or 10 spools of black.
Dec 29, 2017 9:21 AM - Geof: Those are about the only 2 colors clients want if prototyping in PLA so it works out
    Dec 29, 2017 9:22 AM - Geof: https://www.zyltech.com/store/p211/...r_filament_1.75_mm_1_kg_2.2_lbs_-_Silver.html
Dec 29, 2017 9:22 AM - Geof: looks like they had silver but it sout of stock. No black or white showing right now
Dec 29, 2017 9:24 AM - WheresWaldo: Aren't those guys in Houston TX?
    Dec 29, 2017 9:25 AM - Geof: yep
Dec 29, 2017 9:25 AM - Geof: I'm sure the filament is from China :D
Dec 29, 2017 9:25 AM - Parker: should i be using this silicone sock i got with my v6?
Dec 29, 2017 9:28 AM - danzca6: is it the newer style with a bigger hole Parker?
Dec 29, 2017 9:32 AM - Parker: uhh hole for the nozzle?
Dec 29, 2017 9:37 AM - WheresWaldo: There were two verison of the sock, the 1st had a small hole for the nozzle, the current has a bigger hole.
Dec 29, 2017 9:46 AM - danzca6: I've heard some had issues with the small hole version, but the larger version works ok. I personally haven't used either. One way to find out I guess
Dec 29, 2017 9:47 AM - Geof: I hated the small ones, they always fell off. I just ordered the new version while you guys were talking lol.
Dec 29, 2017 9:48 AM - Geof: Shall see what happens I suppose. only 4 or 5 bucks for a set of 3 from Matt so figure I can put them on a handfull of machines and see what shakes. If its better great, if not I bought 3 sets so out less than a spool of hatchbox :D
Dec 29, 2017 10:01 AM - danzca6: WW, sounds like several MK3 owners are hearing a clicking noise from the PSU while heating the bed (not fan related). Prusa tech support said it would be fixed in the next firmware upgrade. Not sure what is in Marlin that would cause any PSU noises.
Dec 29, 2017 10:56 AM - WheresWaldo: It does keep the block cleaner and temps appear to stay stable with the socks on.
Dec 29, 2017 11:12 AM - WheresWaldo: Marlin has nothing to do with the PSU unless Prusa is using a PSU that has internal power on sensing like ATX PC PSU's have. Otherwise it is just a passive consumer of power and no firmware update will fix that. Unless his board is drawing way too much power, but that wouln't be a firmware issue either.
Dec 29, 2017 11:15 AM - WheresWaldo: I hate having to explain to people that designs I sell through Shapeways does not mean they are entitled to the CAD source files too.
Dec 29, 2017 11:18 AM - Geof: I didn't think any shapeways product gave cad files with pruchase?
Dec 29, 2017 11:19 AM - WheresWaldo: None do, you can specify if you allow downloading of the STL file, but people then private message me wanting the original source.
Dec 29, 2017 11:19 AM - WheresWaldo: None of my things allow downloading any files.
Dec 29, 2017 11:32 AM - Geof: I wonder why they even ask?
Dec 29, 2017 11:36 AM - Geof: Must be to list for sale? They could easily just ask you to modify the file at a slight charge for what they "want" yea/
Dec 29, 2017 11:54 AM - Parker: waldo do you have a link to the stuff you sell?
Dec 29, 2017 12:01 PM - Kilrah: just the "mood" i guess. one of the most publicised things around 3D printing is "print it or mod it yourself"... Heck even @WheresWaldo complains of source files not being posted :D
    Dec 29, 2017 12:11 PM - Kilrah: i have a chinese CNC i'm happy with
Dec 29, 2017 12:15 PM - Geof: which one do you have Kilrah?
Dec 29, 2017 12:16 PM - Geof: what kind of tolerance on say aluminum blank?
Dec 29, 2017 12:17 PM - Parker: any "good" free slicing software?
Dec 29, 2017 12:19 PM - danzca6: Cura 3.1 is what I use and really like the improvements
Dec 29, 2017 12:20 PM - danzca6: WW, Josef replied "it is the transformer coil as you switch the load on and off. If I simplify it, you just increase the frequency and it will go away. It will be in the final 3.1.1 fw"
Dec 29, 2017 12:21 PM - danzca6: the mk3 is so quiet now that it probably allows little noises that have always been there to be more noticable now
Dec 29, 2017 12:21 PM - danzca6: funny how the MK3 is running on RC firmware and there isn't a final release yet
Dec 29, 2017 12:24 PM - Geof: I think the whole machine is RC danz :D
Dec 29, 2017 12:24 PM - Geof: doesn't seem as "ready" as the MK2 was. Not sure what the rush was.
Dec 29, 2017 12:27 PM - danzca6: onward and upward in business....got to have those big lead times so folks feel like they have to have one ;)
Dec 29, 2017 12:28 PM - Geof: lol very true. MK2 was "in stock, ship same day" for awhile. Probably needed to get the buzz goin again.
Dec 29, 2017 12:29 PM - Geof: Danz you ready for the plays to get here or what lol
Dec 29, 2017 12:29 PM - Kilrah: @Geof I haven't done measurements. Just done what I needed and it always fit as intended lol
Dec 29, 2017 12:30 PM - Geof: Kilrah- gotya. Good enough then! Link me?
Dec 29, 2017 12:38 PM - Kilrah: gah, imgur is borked
    Dec 29, 2017 12:38 PM - Kilrah: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/USB...32767569852.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.8QToy9
    Dec 29, 2017 12:39 PM - Kilrah: http://www.andrebernet.ch/divers/index.php?path=cnc/
Dec 29, 2017 12:41 PM - Kilrah: i've done foam (styro/epp), wood, ABS, plexi, GF PCB, CF, alu
Dec 29, 2017 12:42 PM - Kilrah: and tried steel a couple of times... that kinda works but gets really scary lol
Dec 29, 2017 12:46 PM - Geof: Steel would be a bit much for me. More alum or softer
Dec 29, 2017 12:47 PM - Kilrah: no prob then
Dec 29, 2017 12:50 PM - Kilrah: it's the rigidity of the Z axis which is the limitation on that style machine, since the spindle is offset from the Z drive it'll always bend somewhat under effort... so gotta keep the effort low i.e. be a little patient on harder materials
Dec 29, 2017 12:51 PM - Geof: yup thats what I'm seeing with most machines lol. Slow goes it.
Dec 29, 2017 12:51 PM - Kilrah: you obviously wouldn't use that where time is critical, but for occasional use It's served me well so far and I couldn't justify anything more anyway - good balance for me
    Dec 29, 2017 12:52 PM - Kilrah: actually compared to 3D printing it's pretty fast :D
Dec 29, 2017 12:52 PM - Kilrah: just you need to attend a bit more to it...
Dec 29, 2017 12:52 PM - Kilrah: and a benefit is it forces you to understand gcode, which makes you better at understanding some 3D printing subtelties as well if you don't before you get there :p
Dec 29, 2017 12:53 PM - Geof: :D we do machining as well, but not at the desktop level lol
Dec 29, 2017 12:54 PM - Geof: just looking around at what everyone has as far cheap machines to see if I want to buy a converted bridgeport and program or just go with a small desktop :D
Dec 29, 2017 12:54 PM - Geof: likely the bridgeport, but a smaller one would be just fine too. Pretty well everything would be alum or brass I'd do at home or I'd take to the shop lol
Dec 29, 2017 12:59 PM - Kilrah: nice, well I guess you have a workshop that can handle a bridgeport... in my case it isn't really an option, the good thing about my CNC is that when I'm not using it I can put my R2 on top of it and it's at a nice working height :p http://www.andrebernet.ch/divers/cnc/20171017_072147.jpg
Dec 29, 2017 1:02 PM - Geof: That is like perfect height! I dig the small lathe.
Dec 29, 2017 1:03 PM - Geof: Dont hav ea ton of workshop area (bar is in the garage;) ) but it will fit in the basement no problem, just gotta take apart to get down there
Dec 29, 2017 1:04 PM - Parker: do you like that mini metal lathe? ive been thinking of getting one
Dec 29, 2017 1:04 PM - Kilrah: it's awesome, newest acquisition in the "shop" aka spare apartment room - obviously has size limitations, but does great within that... I don't really need anything bigger anyway for RC/modeling stuff and it only weighs 12kg so it's easy to move around
Dec 29, 2017 1:05 PM - Geof: yea it looks about perfect size. Whats the largest OD the jaws can handle?
Dec 29, 2017 1:06 PM - Kilrah: I'm just a beginner there, had never touched a lathe before getting it (nor a mill regardless of manual or CNC before this spring) but it looked like good capabilities, and a pro I know had recently bought the larger version of it so it seemed like a safe choice
Dec 29, 2017 1:07 PM - Geof: Looks decent enough, seen some crappy ones out there and typically you can spot em by the looks. That one looks nice.
    Dec 29, 2017 1:07 PM - Kilrah: https://www.proxxon.com/en/micromot/24002.php
    Dec 29, 2017 1:07 PM - Kilrah: 75mm
Dec 29, 2017 1:09 PM - WheresWaldo: Last time I used a lathe it was for wood turnings.

Dec 29, 2017 1:10 PM - Geof: yea 75mm is a good size for sure.
Dec 29, 2017 1:10 PM - Geof: Did you spring for the mill and drill head? That looks legit as well.
    Dec 29, 2017 1:12 PM - Kilrah: http://www.andrebernet.ch/divers/20171030_184454.jpg
Dec 29, 2017 1:12 PM - Geof: would be nice if it had a Z readout for that mill head :(
Dec 29, 2017 1:13 PM - Kilrah: nah, already had the cnc, figure it's enough for what i need already
    Dec 29, 2017 1:13 PM - Geof: for sure.
Dec 29, 2017 1:14 PM - Kilrah: doing a program for something you'd do on a manual mill is a piece of cake, and when you don't even want to go there just jogging it around works...
    Dec 29, 2017 1:14 PM - Geof: yessir! Thats why I'd like a small one :D lol
Dec 29, 2017 1:15 PM - Geof: manual is for the birds :D
Dec 29, 2017 1:15 PM - Geof: alright gents I'm off, catch ya later. Good talkin Kilrah
Dec 29, 2017 1:15 PM - Kilrah: haven't done many purely lathe parts from scratch, but often just some corrections on things like narrow or shorten a screw head that are hard to do on something else...
    Dec 29, 2017 1:16 PM - Kilrah: haha :D cya
Dec 29, 2017 1:18 PM - Kilrah: 10mm done on that Rook tower...
Dec 29, 2017 1:26 PM - WheresWaldo: I have a shelf full of these rooks, a bit more challenging to print https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:399545
Dec 29, 2017 1:27 PM - WheresWaldo: Most printed in various sizes on the DLP printer.
Dec 29, 2017 1:28 PM - Kilrah: nice, must come out great on dlp
Dec 29, 2017 1:29 PM - WheresWaldo: When it is printed small it looks fantastic.
Dec 29, 2017 1:31 PM - Kilrah: I've seen some incredible resin prints... but never had much interest myself since I need usable/functional parts more than clean/accurate ones for what I do
Dec 29, 2017 1:33 PM - Kilrah: maybe the day they find resins that aren't brittle...
Dec 29, 2017 1:34 PM - WheresWaldo: I basically use the resin for prototype parts, I sell a bunch of different models on Shapeways and FDM doesn't get me close enough to verify accurate sizing, so I print those on the DLP even if they aren't usable (to brittle).
Dec 29, 2017 1:35 PM - WheresWaldo: Monocure has one that isn't too bad, and there is a place in Germany that has resin that isn't as brittle when cured. Problem is most resins eventaully warp when left exposed to any UV.
    Dec 29, 2017 1:41 PM - Kilrah: ok, interesting
Dec 29, 2017 1:43 PM - Kilrah: is shapeways only doing SLA stuff? would think the best to check for fitness would be with the same method used by the manufacturing company...
Dec 29, 2017 2:02 PM - WheresWaldo: They do both SLA and SLS, they just added FDM too. There printers are virtually identical when it comes to tolerances so I can test at home and then know the print is going to be okay when printed in Nylon
Dec 29, 2017 2:03 PM - WheresWaldo: Rarely do I need to order my own prints when testing for fit, now.
Dec 29, 2017 2:03 PM - WheresWaldo: The bulk of their printing service is SLS
    Dec 29, 2017 2:12 PM - Kilrah: ok

Dec 31, 2017 at 7:21 AM - WheresWaldo: Mark, I am staring at the Banggood page of the Laser Engraver and debating, how much use do you get out of your?
Dec 31, 2017 at 10:25 AM - mark tomlinson: A fair amount. Granted the one we have is still "toy" class, but the one we are putting in the new workshop is not.
Dec 31, 2017 at 10:25 AM - mark tomlinson: no more LED LASER -- the new one has a 90w CO2
Dec 31, 2017 at 2:36 PM - Geof: Mark we will talk about the toy one soon :) curiosity has the best of me with you guys both chatting about it
Dec 31, 2017 at 2:41 PM - Kilrah: almost about to order a laser on BG :D
    Dec 31, 2017 at 3:11 PM - Kilrah: https://imgur.com/a/b3UXS
Dec 31, 2017 at 3:27 PM - mark tomlinson: BG has some decent priced LED ones. We were happy with the UV LED one as far as it went, but for serious work we opted to go with a CO2 laser. Saw some at a local maker faire as well, but I jolly well can't afford those professional ones.
Dec 31, 2017 at 3:28 PM - mark tomlinson: Now that we have space for it...

    Jan 1, 2018 1:19 AM - Kilrah: looking at a 5W 405nm diode, $120 or so
Jan 1, 2018 1:20 AM - Kilrah: should be enough for a first attempt
Jan 1, 2018 3:11 PM - mark tomlinson: Geof, don't be throwin' shade on the new shop. I still have room :)
Jan 1, 2018 3:52 PM - Geof: Lol ! No shade just figure all the toys filled her up quick :)
Jan 1, 2018 5:42 PM - mark tomlinson: still have room for the CNC machine (blue tape helps)

Jan 2, 2018 10:00 AM - Toro1966: Hey all - quick question. Believe my LCD is jacked up. Sometimes screen boots up and shows all is well and sometimes it stops at the Marlin version splash screen. Also, SD card reader is not working properly. Just looking for some thoughts before I order another.
Jan 2, 2018 10:03 AM - Geof: if the cables are tight I'd start with replacing just the controller. If a new controller is doing the same symptoms I'd look into the boards (arduino/ramps)
Jan 2, 2018 10:04 AM - Geof: could possibly be some interference from another machine but I seriously doubt it (a bunch of mine all run next to eachother with no issue)
Jan 2, 2018 10:04 AM - Geof: Does the printer function when the jibberish or froze screen is there? (can you initiate a print via USB?)
Jan 2, 2018 10:04 AM - Geof: if so then likely just the controller, if not the arduino may be freezing up or going out.
Jan 2, 2018 10:07 AM - Toro1966: Thank Geof. When it is on splash screen - no - but I have not tried via USB. Will likely do that shortly.
Jan 2, 2018 10:07 AM - Toro1966: Appreciate the assist. I have not swapped this R1+ to the standard RAMPS so if it goes bad, that's what I plan on doing.
Jan 2, 2018 10:15 AM - Toro1966: One more thing that might help diagnose it - are the MESh values saved within the lCD or on the RAMPS board? I ask because I have noticed the printer has been losing it's MESh values lately and I have had to redo the leveling multiple times.
Jan 2, 2018 10:44 AM - WheresWaldo: Nothing is stored on the LCD, it is just a dumb display. Despite it's naming.
    Jan 2, 2018 10:52 AM - Toro1966: So it's likely my board is going?
    Jan 2, 2018 11:25 AM - Geof: Very possible
Jan 2, 2018 11:31 AM - Scott Tobin: Maybe reflash the arduino
Jan 2, 2018 11:32 AM - Scott Tobin: I just bought the XXL lcd and was wondering if I could add fillament presets as there is alread one for PLA and ABS. I want to add some for other fillaments.
    Jan 2, 2018 11:34 AM - Geof: yes in the firmwar e
    Jan 2, 2018 11:34 AM - Geof: firmware***
Jan 2, 2018 11:35 AM - Scott Tobin: I tried adding fillament presets below the eeprom in the firmware of the ROBO and I enabled the eeprom as well however, I still only see PLA and ABS on the screen/
Jan 2, 2018 11:36 AM - Geof: I'm unable to dig up the firmware at th emoment, if you start a thread I can get back to you
Jan 2, 2018 11:36 AM - Scott Tobin: Will do, thanks
Jan 2, 2018 11:36 AM - Geof: I know I've ditched ABS and renamed it another item, I dont believe there is anything stopping you from adding more to it

Jan 2, 2018 12:11 PM - WheresWaldo: I responded to your thread. You can't do it the way you want, I gave you an alternative. Requires Marlin 1.1.x.
Jan 2, 2018 12:12 PM - WheresWaldo: 1.1.6 or newer to be exact.
Jan 2, 2018 12:12 PM - WheresWaldo: Hey Daniel, did you finally finish up the Monoprice Delta conversion?
Jan 2, 2018 12:59 PM - Scott Tobin: Any idea what version of Marlin Robo's firmware is branched off of?
Jan 2, 2018 1:04 PM - daniel871: Nah, I took that whole Christmas/New Year's week off from work and didn't mess with any 3d-printing related stuff the entire time. I'll probably get it wired up sometime this week and start testing though.
    Jan 2, 2018 2:05 PM - WheresWaldo: The R2 is 1.1.6 the R1 is 1.1.0
Jan 2, 2018 2:08 PM - Scott Tobin: Would there be any noticable difference or known issues upgrading an R1+ to 1.1.8?
Jan 2, 2018 2:11 PM - WheresWaldo: @danzca is working on 1.1.8 for the R1, I have already modified 1.1.7 and that will be my last one for the R1. It is in the Mods and Upgrades sub forum.
Jan 2, 2018 2:13 PM - WheresWaldo: My version has Unified Bed Leveling (UBL) enabled, if you want to go back to the old leveling you have to change it yourself to BILINEAR.
Jan 2, 2018 2:13 PM - WheresWaldo: There appears to be no functional differences between 1.1.7 and 1.1.8 for our type of printers.
Jan 2, 2018 2:29 PM - Toro1966: Ok - I managed to get 1.1.7 uploaded to the Robo. Now it's not reading the SD card. I put the card in and it continues to say no card inserted. Fairly certain the LCD is toast - does that seem right? All other functionality of the LCD seem to work.
Jan 2, 2018 2:30 PM - Toro1966: Also - what is the command for changing the direction of spin on the menu. Mine seems reversed.
Jan 2, 2018 2:37 PM - WheresWaldo: Configuration.h somewhere around line 1360, none are enabled.
Jan 2, 2018 2:41 PM - Toro1966: Thanks Waldo - see 2 - reverse menu and reverse encoder. I assume I need to do both
Jan 2, 2018 2:42 PM - WheresWaldo: I don't recall, play around with one or the other, it is pretty easy to reflash firmware.
Jan 2, 2018 2:44 PM - Toro1966: Yup - agreed - just being leazy - sorry :) Appreciate all the help! let me get my butt in gear and try it. With respect to the sd card not working, it is likely the lcd itself if the rest of the functions are working - correcT?
Jan 2, 2018 2:50 PM - Toro1966: Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some option to enable the SD card support.
Jan 2, 2018 3:29 PM - WheresWaldo: SDSUPPORT disabled by default
Jan 2, 2018 3:42 PM - Toro1966: Ahh - so I have to enable it. Now to find it.
Jan 2, 2018 3:46 PM - Toro1966: Nope - already enabled in the version available here by Danzca. Looks like that means that my lcd is crapped out. Ordered a new one. let's hope....

Jan 3, 2018 4:16 AM - Kilrah: it's often jsut the wiring form experience
Jan 3, 2018 7:14 AM - Toro1966: I re-flashed to1.1.7 and then used the LCD from my other Robo to conifrm. It's the LCD. Ordered a couple on Amazon because they were cheap and have mixed reviews regarding longevity.
    Jan 3, 2018 7:16 AM - Geof: i have a few spares as well...4 or 5 I think :D lol.
Jan 3, 2018 7:18 AM - Toro1966: haha. The latest batch had a bunch of reviews that say the header on the lcd was soldered in backwards. We'll see how that goes. Easy fix as long as no damage due to plugging in wrong direction.
Jan 3, 2018 7:19 AM - Geof: interesting. Idk i always buy the kits (ramps, arduino, drivers and lcd/cables togather) and dont really have to much issue. Granted alot of machines so can do that without much worry. The parts will get used :D
Jan 3, 2018 7:23 AM - Toro1966: Lol - I was going to do that but I already have a spare arduino and steppers. Could use another ramps as i am sure one of these wil go eventually, but at 12 bucks. I just got the LCDs :)
Jan 3, 2018 7:23 AM - WheresWaldo: @Toro, I had one of those backwards sockets, easy to fix just pry off the plastic keyed socket, leaving the pins behind. It does come off slowly. Flip the plastic around and re-insert, all done now the connector is the correct way.
Jan 3, 2018 7:26 AM - Toro1966: Awesome - Thanks Waldo! Very comfortable soldering sockets but wasn't aware the plastic surround came off separately. Great to know! Is there any issue with pluggimg it in backwards? I know you can swap them and have them wrong with no damage, but if they are flipped and installed is there any risk?
Jan 3, 2018 7:27 AM - WheresWaldo: No I had mine plugged in backwards until I figured out the plastic surrond was backwards and it worked perfectly once it was correct.
Jan 3, 2018 7:30 AM - Toro1966: Excellent. Will be happy to get it back and running. I know i can just pritn from PC - but who does that anymore :)
Jan 3, 2018 7:31 AM - WheresWaldo: People who think 3D Printers are "Printers" :)
Jan 3, 2018 7:31 AM - Toro1966: Haha - Exactly! I'm down to 1 of 4 printers working. One Robo down due to LCD, my Tornado is down due to bad fans and clooged nozzle/heatbrake, and my new JGAurora A5 has a warped bed.
Jan 3, 2018 7:32 AM - Toro1966: The Tornado would be an easy fix but it's 24v and all my spare parts are 12v lol. So I had to order new ones. I could add a mirror and get the JGAurora printing, but they are sending me a new bed so ifigured I would just wait.
Jan 3, 2018 7:34 AM - WheresWaldo: The LCD doesn't really prevent it from working. Only the fan and heater cartridge is 24V. The heater cartridge is just a resistive load and will work even if it is rated at 12V. The fan can burn up is used with 24V.
Jan 3, 2018 7:35 AM - WheresWaldo: A sheet of float glass (the kind you get from the hardware store) could mitigate some of the warped bed.
Jan 3, 2018 8:09 AM - WheresWaldo: Hey Geof, my failure rate is now down to 45% The last 8 prints in a row successful! At least I let them finish to completion.
Jan 3, 2018 8:14 AM - Geof: lol mine is on the rise but not sure where. been printing USB lately :D
Jan 3, 2018 8:24 AM - WheresWaldo: Mine is going down because I am printing stuff we can actually use rather than testing firmware changes.
Jan 3, 2018 8:27 AM - Geof: ditto :D I'm not testing anything, doing a wierd "tell me what to print " project on twitter with the R2/C2.
    Jan 3, 2018 8:27 AM - Geof: its been...interesting lol.
Jan 3, 2018 8:57 AM - daniel871: How many suggestions for butt plugs/dildos have you gotten?
    Jan 3, 2018 8:58 AM - Geof: none, I dont deal with children :D
Jan 3, 2018 10:36 AM - Toro1966: I think I have asked this before, but are there two z bearings in each side of the carriage? I have little bbs coming out lol so I need to replace them. I assume I just use a screwdriver or something and tap them out?
Jan 3, 2018 10:38 AM - Geof: yes to the first thing.
Jan 3, 2018 10:40 AM - Geof: they are a big tight, not sure they will tap out so great.
    Jan 3, 2018 10:40 AM - Geof: I press out and in.
Jan 3, 2018 12:56 PM - Toro1966: Thanks Geof. unfortunately I don't have a press. but I do have some bearing installer dies. They might work - my gut tells me they'll be too big. Guess I'll have to get inventive!
Jan 3, 2018 12:59 PM - Geof: a bolt, a deep well socket and a nut with a washer that fits through the hole of the carriage buddy :D
Jan 3, 2018 12:59 PM - Geof: use that to "pull" out one bearing at a time (it will all go through one way) then get a bit washer and use it to press the bearing in one side at a time ;)
Jan 3, 2018 12:59 PM - Geof: home made bearing press
Jan 3, 2018 1:07 PM - Toro1966: Yup - that sounds like it will work a champ. Will give it a try this weekend.
Jan 3, 2018 1:33 PM - WheresWaldo: @Jerry, while you are online, is it you that has to add the post prefixes to the C2 & R2 forums?

    Jan 4, 2018 8:15 AM - Toro1966: Morning all.
Jan 4, 2018 9:01 AM - Geof: Hey Toro. Late to the party today ;)
Jan 4, 2018 9:25 AM - WheresWaldo: Geof, now that I have everything working almost perfectly (failure rate down to 43% with the last 11 models printed perfectly) I am thinking about breaking the R2 again. I am back to seeing if I shouldn't change the plastic extruder to the Titan and maybe do a variant for an all metal MK8.
Jan 4, 2018 9:28 AM - Geof: having extrusion issues or just to tinker?
    Jan 4, 2018 9:33 AM - mark tomlinson: > just to tinker< No need for a better reason :)
Jan 4, 2018 9:35 AM - Geof: :D lol true. Will follow along with intrigue.
Jan 4, 2018 9:36 AM - Geof: leaving mine mostly stock and available to use stock firmware and what not so I can recreate issues will be interested to see what what :D
Jan 4, 2018 9:44 AM - WheresWaldo: Tinker of course
Jan 4, 2018 9:45 AM - WheresWaldo: I don't trust the logetivity of the plastic extruder
Jan 4, 2018 9:52 AM - Geof: Titan on the back in the bowden spot?
Jan 4, 2018 9:54 AM - WheresWaldo: Titan on top in same place as existing, Titan as bowden would be too easy.
    Jan 4, 2018 10:05 AM - Geof: lol :D
Jan 4, 2018 10:45 AM - WheresWaldo: Geof I already have a model of a new extruder top section if you wanted to go dual bowden.
Jan 4, 2018 11:57 AM - Geof: nah not for me. Leavin mine stock (ish)
Jan 4, 2018 11:58 AM - Geof: may do the dual extruder when the time is there but then the R2 becomes a play thing and not part of the farm :D
Jan 4, 2018 2:55 PM - daniel871: LOL. Somebody on FB tried to scold me for using "vulgar language" on a post by quoting the bible and got mad when I reminded them that back when the Bible was being translated into English it had heavy opposition because English was considered the most vulgar language of the time.

    Jan 5, 2018 6:31 AM - JeffTheMess: nice
Jan 5, 2018 6:46 AM - WheresWaldo: Geof finished my new extruder top.
    Jan 5, 2018 6:50 AM - Geof: what took so long? ;)
    Jan 5, 2018 6:50 AM - Geof: I figured it'd already be installed today!
Jan 5, 2018 6:51 AM - WheresWaldo: I had the filament hole in the wrong spot
    Jan 5, 2018 6:51 AM - WheresWaldo: [IMG]
Jan 5, 2018 6:54 AM - Geof: not bad! looks good! think you will have any issues with the bowden coming out of the "guide"
Jan 5, 2018 6:54 AM - Geof: I had one titan that the guide was very loose, had to have it replaced.
Jan 5, 2018 7:09 AM - WheresWaldo: Mine is so tight that I really have to twist and push to get it in place.
Jan 5, 2018 7:11 AM - WheresWaldo: I still have some clean up to do in the grooves for the bearings, then I will be ready to install. My only concern is that I can't adjust the stepper driver and when I tried this motor on the standard extruder it stalled. May have to use a full sized stepper.
Jan 5, 2018 7:26 AM - Geof: more than likely so
Jan 5, 2018 8:20 AM - WheresWaldo: Going to reprint it in Nylon or Polycarbonate and then install it. I created a thread in Projects and linked the A360 Web Details with downloading allowed.
Jan 5, 2018 8:30 AM - Geof: being so far from a heatsource PLA would probably even be fine :D
Jan 5, 2018 8:35 AM - WheresWaldo: I am just not a big fan of how brittle PLA is, want to make sure the edges don't split near the mounting holes.
    Jan 5, 2018 8:41 AM - Geof: ah gotya.
Jan 5, 2018 9:20 AM - WheresWaldo: Hey Geof, you think the R2 would be better with a BL-Touch rather than the IR sensor?
Jan 5, 2018 9:22 AM - WheresWaldo: No intent, just asking your opinion.
Jan 5, 2018 9:23 AM - WheresWaldo: Mark, do you have an oscilliscope?
    Jan 5, 2018 9:30 AM - mark tomlinson: YES
Jan 5, 2018 9:31 AM - Geof: I'm not a huge fan of the BL touch. Only machine that has one is the Gmax and that BL touch is finiky (replaced 2x, just how they are)
Jan 5, 2018 9:31 AM - Geof: they love to drop. If it were me I'd prefer they ditched the sensor all togather and just let you manually level.
Jan 5, 2018 9:34 AM - WheresWaldo: Mark I asked because Massdrop has a 2-channel Nano Oscilliscope with a few days left, pretty good pricing.
Jan 5, 2018 10:05 AM - mark tomlinson: Thnx, already have a decent 2-channel DSO
Jan 5, 2018 10:18 AM - WheresWaldo: I might jump on this one, but I have so many Banggood points that the 4 channel DS203 becomes cheap
    Jan 5, 2018 10:50 AM - Kilrah: [IMG]
Jan 5, 2018 10:50 AM - mike litoris: Hey there, I found a part on top of my print from my robo r1, I have no idea what it is or where it goes
    Jan 5, 2018 10:50 AM - mike litoris: https://imgur.com/a/IGuw6
Jan 5, 2018 10:51 AM - Kilrah: (yes I need to refocus that camera lens one day)
Jan 5, 2018 10:52 AM - Geof: Mike that part is the clamp that holds the heat bed wires on the y axis
Jan 5, 2018 10:53 AM - Geof: unsure how it made it all the way up there with the bolt still in it lol.
Jan 5, 2018 10:53 AM - Geof: kilrah lookin good!
Jan 5, 2018 10:53 AM - Geof: glad my sigma doesn't use all that purge when I print that ;) lol kidding
Jan 5, 2018 10:54 AM - mike litoris: wait so it belongs under the glass with the heat bed?
Jan 5, 2018 10:54 AM - Geof: correct. if your looking at the robo lettering on the front and lift the glass off the base. Its the rear bed rod holder on the right side where the ribbon cable runs.
Jan 5, 2018 10:55 AM - mike litoris: and its connected by just the one screw?
Jan 5, 2018 10:55 AM - Geof: there is a square with a hole. The bolt goes through the back side and screws into the piece you have. the ribbon cable routes through it and out to the ramps board through the back of the machine.
Jan 5, 2018 10:55 AM - Geof: correct. just the one screw. It just holds the wires
Jan 5, 2018 10:56 AM - mike litoris: I cannot tell you how helpful you guys have just been, Ive taken the thing apart several times and never saw it
Jan 5, 2018 10:56 AM - mike litoris: any chance one of you is near your robo and can show me a picture of exactly where?
Jan 5, 2018 10:57 AM - Geof: I'm not but its very obvious when you lift the bed. Its the only open "square cut out" on the Y plastic
    Jan 5, 2018 10:57 AM - Geof: (bed )
Jan 5, 2018 10:58 AM - Geof: I dont actually think any of my R1+ units still has that part on it (I removed them)
Jan 5, 2018 10:59 AM - mike litoris: so its not even essential to the machine? I will look for it under the bed and get my printer running
Jan 5, 2018 10:59 AM - mike litoris: Thanks a bunch, Geof! Happy New Year!
Jan 5, 2018 11:00 AM - Geof: Its a strain relief for the wires is all. Put it back on if you'd like to :D mind kept turning and getting in the way of the homing sequence so I used HVAC tape and secured the wires to the glass.
Jan 5, 2018 11:00 AM - Geof: Happy new year buddy
Jan 5, 2018 11:55 AM - Scott Tobin: Getting small pits on the outer wall of some of my prints, any ideas?
Jan 5, 2018 11:58 AM - Geof: start a thread with good photos and I'm sure we can help ya get it dialed in.
Jan 5, 2018 12:51 PM - WheresWaldo: So the TL-Smoothers are here, supposed to only work well on the Allegro 4xxx stepper driver chips the 8xxx don't have a fast voltage decay (or so I have read). Will post before and after pics.
Jan 5, 2018 1:01 PM - WheresWaldo: So far the motors are spinning.
Jan 5, 2018 1:08 PM - WheresWaldo: Anecdotal observation, the steppers are much quieter.
Jan 5, 2018 2:01 PM - daniel871: Welp, I think I've got a bad MKS Gen1.4 board. Only one of the endstop pin sets works properly (Z-max, all others will constantly report Open/Triggered depending on firmware logic, no matter how wired, while Z-max will function properly for any of the endstops once wired up).
Jan 5, 2018 2:03 PM - WheresWaldo: Did you get it direct from Makerspace or from a reseller?
    Jan 5, 2018 2:05 PM - daniel871: Random Amazon.com listing
Jan 5, 2018 2:07 PM - WheresWaldo: Usually the MKS boards are pretty reliable, I have used four different ones and all worked as expected. Too bad they don't actually follow the OSH guidlines.
Jan 5, 2018 2:08 PM - daniel871: I'm trying to decide whether it's worth my time to keep fooling with it vs. just watching for another sale on the Maker Select Mini V2 and replacing the Delta with that.
Jan 5, 2018 2:09 PM - WheresWaldo: So you wouldn't buy another Delta? I thought the point was to have a cute desktop printer.
Jan 5, 2018 2:12 PM - daniel871: The guy in the cubicle across from me got the Mini V2 in an after Christmas sale and currently has it running things on his desk while my delta sits here with its guts everywhere.
Jan 5, 2018 2:13 PM - daniel871: I mean, I could put it back to non-functioning stock and let it sit there looking cute but it doesn't work, and this one item Monoprice sells isn't getting the same support their other printers get.
Jan 5, 2018 2:14 PM - daniel871: That Mini V2 is super quiet and running really well, too.
Jan 5, 2018 2:15 PM - WheresWaldo: I haven't looked at the Monoprice printers recently, I just use them for cables.
Jan 5, 2018 5:04 PM - Toro1966: Hey guys - having a problem getting UBL to work with Marlin 1.1.7 . Anyone have any experience with it?
Jan 5, 2018 5:17 PM - WheresWaldo: Whats the issue I'll try to help you out.
Jan 5, 2018 5:19 PM - Toro1966: After running UBL and saving it, the nozzle is too close. Like I need to add a z offset.
Jan 5, 2018 5:24 PM - WheresWaldo: You will need a Z Offset, you can set it with M851
    Jan 5, 2018 5:24 PM - WheresWaldo: http://marlinfw.org/docs/gcode/M851.html
Jan 5, 2018 5:25 PM - Toro1966: Is it normal to need a z offset with UBL? Also - there is no babystep command anymore when I start a print? Did that go away with 1.1.7? I LOVE that feature.
Jan 5, 2018 5:25 PM - WheresWaldo: You can also shift the entire mesh using G29 P6 Cn.nn. At least I think that still works.
    Jan 5, 2018 5:26 PM - Toro1966: where n.nn is the distance to shift? I.e. -1.2?
Jan 5, 2018 5:26 PM - WheresWaldo: Only with the R1 because the probe does not trigger at Z0 it triggers when the extruder is lifted off the switch enough to trigger it.
Jan 5, 2018 5:29 PM - Toro1966: Ok so what is a good value to start with? I just haven't done it in some time. I never needed an offset with Mesh. And I am also bummed about the babystep. Is there a way to enable that?
Jan 5, 2018 5:31 PM - Toro1966: Just looking for ballpark. When I was using ABL I think I had -.75 or something like that.
Jan 5, 2018 5:31 PM - WheresWaldo: On mesh you don't actually trigger the endstop since you do it manually and use a shim, understand? I would try .7 maybe and then adjust from there.
Jan 5, 2018 5:32 PM - WheresWaldo: The R1 bed flexes a lot and UBL uses the probe (switches).
Jan 5, 2018 5:33 PM - Toro1966: Yup - makes sense now that you explain it. One last one for you - on previous versions, the more negative, the farther away from the bed. Is it changed now? In other words should it be .7 or -.7
Jan 5, 2018 5:33 PM - WheresWaldo: M851 is backwards from M565 so more positive is further away.
Jan 5, 2018 5:36 PM - Toro1966: Got it - so I should try M851 Z.70 and if that is too close increase (.75 or so)
Jan 5, 2018 5:38 PM - Toro1966: Appreciate all of the help Waldo - When I initially setup the UBL and build the mesh - should the bed and nozzle be hot or cold? I ask because the LCD option says - "Build Cold Mesh" but I have been doing it with the bed and nozzle heated.
Jan 5, 2018 5:49 PM - WheresWaldo: Hot becuse that will account for any warping of the bed. I only heat the bed not the nozzle.
Jan 5, 2018 5:49 PM - Toro1966: Cool. That's what I did. The G29 P6 C.7 worked like a champ. I sent that command and then M500. Will it store that now in the EEPROM or do I need to add to start code?
    Jan 5, 2018 7:28 PM - WheresWaldo: Stored
    Jan 5, 2018 7:37 PM - Toro1966: Excellent thanks . still tuning it...
Jan 5, 2018 7:38 PM - Toro1966: The mesh and ofset that is.
