Bingo. Print slower and you are probably safe.

I ended up doing this and everything has been running much better other than the power grid issues we had yesterday.

In the original post, step 5 says "where to plug in the hot end fan". Is there a reason why the original connector can't be used? As in the same connection where the hex' fan was connected?

No there's no reason. That section is mostly for people who are upgrading from the original J-Head Mk VIII to the E3D which had no fan.

Though these days those printers are few and far

Thanks Mike! Just wanted to make sure it's okay to use that same connector. Or all the same connectors from that bundle, just connected to the v6.

Also Robert Sanchez's post on page 3 for uploading the firmware was very helpful for me as a noob. For the "suggestion box", I'd consider adding that info to the original post.

Sorry if I missed this info.

My 1.75mm v6 didn't come with PTFE tube. After reading, I see it's an essential piece for printing. What size should I be searching for?

it's 4mm OD and 2mm ID. Who'd you buy it from? they should have included a small stub

Directly from E3d-online. I've sent them an email a few days ago, but I need to get this printer running again.

You are not the first person to report that failure.
At least one other person got theirs like that.

E3D needs to up their game.

I am attempting to install the e3d v6 on my robo 3d r1, i followed all the guides and have e3d assembled and removed the fan holder from my robo, but for the life of me i am unable to understand how to secure the hot end to the carriage.
I attempted to secure it the same way that the hexagon was secured, but the holes for the 2 m3 screws are slightly off and the screws hit exactly on the top round piece of the e3d heatsink.
    what am i not understanding?

Did you do this to the extruder assembly (from the E3D thread)?

If that counterbore isn't there, you may not be able to properly seat the v6 before trying to tighten the m3 screws into place (the fitting for the PTFE tubing sticking out the top will be pushing the entire assembly down low enough to interfere with the screws).

This is what he is talking about counterboring the hole.

I belive I'm having a com port issue?

Arduino: 1.6.4 (Windows 8.1), Board: "Arduino Mega or Mega 2560, ATmega2560 (Mega 2560)"

    Build options changed, rebuilding all

Sketch uses 115,422 bytes (45%) of program storage space. Maximum is 253,952 bytes.

Global variables use 4,408 bytes (53%) of dynamic memory, leaving 3,784 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 8,192 bytes.

avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "\\.\COM1": The system cannot find the file specified.

avrdude: ser_drain(): read error: The handle is invalid.

Problem uploading to board. See http://www.arduino.cc/en/Guide/Troubleshooting#upload for suggestions.

This report would have more information with
    "Show verbose output during compilation"
    enabled in File > Preferences.

Are you sure Com1 is the right port? Check in your device manager

No. I wasn't sure. So I changed it to COM3, and received the same error.

What port does the device manager show for the Arduino Mega?

    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...er-opensystem-cant-open-device-com1the-system

Try something like that although COM3 in your case.

There are a lot of threads on Arduino.cc about Windows com port issues... Most just come down to either the driver, the port or windows being windows. We can probably get it sorted. (A new thread would have been ideal since this has nothing to do with the E3d and folks with the same issue will find it easier.)

Let me know if that helps. Reloading the driver might be the next best bet.

Sorry about that. Thought since the files were in this thread, my questions need to be.

I did the above. And reinstalled the drivers. Thank you!
