We all know that we can search and find some lead screws to upgrade our z axis. Today I received a email from someone at Robo3d about upgrading them. Basically he asked me to poll fellow Robo3d forum members on how many are interested on doing this upgrade, the reason I would like to go the route of getting the lead screws from Robo3d is because from what Ive seen they have their suppliers shipping them with hexagon style nuts so there are no adapters to make, simply pull out the old steeper and threaded rod, remove the switch, install the new steeper/lead screw and re attach the switch to the supplied nut.

long story short I created this thread to guage interest in this and hopefully they will be a offered upgrade soon.
please post "interested" if you are interested in this.

They are supposed to be releasing an upgrade kit for them. This has been discussed many times in the shoutbox with Robo3d staff. There is definitely an interest in it though. A bunch have already done it but I'm sure there are still others that want to do it too.

Is this an upgrade for the current R1?

I'm interested in just about any official upgrade that will make the printer better.

I'm one of jb's bunch that's already done it. In my mind this change along with upgrading to E3D's V6 hot section and an LCD panel are must-do upgrades

It would seem to me that those who desire and are up the task of doing the upgrade, are also able to do it by merely following a set of instructions and purchasing the parts from online vendor(s) and printing the couple of parts needed. Robo may find themselves having to deal with enthusiastic but unprepared owners who tried to upgrade and found themselves over their head.

Using the E3D v6 upgrade as a base-line, how "difficult" would this upgrade be to do?

Is there a current thread about this upgrade with instructions in it?

I bought the parts to do this to my beta model over a year ago.
They are still sitting there... Mostly because the original ones are plenty good enough for almost everything I do.

If I ever do have to mess with those components I will go ahead and do the replacement, but unlilke the original Beta bed and rails (the upgrade to the linear rods and the bed) this is not as crucial an upgrade. Not saying it isn't worth doing, but not on my priority list.

I do think Robo should stock it and make it available since it is a far easier upgrade than the bed fiasco was (for them and for us).

Well, if Robo doesn't want to do it, but people still want to have access to kits, I'm certainly willing to stock them. Robo should have easier access to components though since I think the upgrades would use standard components used in the revised Robos.

    Definitely something I'm interested in.

If robo decides not to do it I know @Mike Glass has found a supplier. Though it won't be quite as easy of an upgrade without the hex nut

jb, although you're certainly not obligated, I'd encourage you to finish your guide. It turns the Robo into a serious machine, fairly easy and inexpensive for competent tinkerers. That mashing together the steppers was pure out-of-the-box inspirational thinking...

If it wasn't for the upgrades, my printer would have been gone a long time ago. What exactly is the benefit of this upgrade-what improvements would I see?

Here is what your prints can look like after the upgrade. Ignore the elephants foot.
